The public school in our district allow navy, shits, khaki and black. I had to habe my kids in white shirts for Catholic school everyday and it was an ordeal. Thing 1 gets nosebleeds fairly frequently so I was constantly scrubbing shirts it seemed between that and the food stains.

I think our school system is collared shirts that can be white, navy or school colors if the school allows it. OR you can wear a "spirit shirt",T-shirts the school sells. Guess what my kids wear. And in high school you can wear jeans (instead of navy or khaki pants) and open toed shoes. Lots of kids in flip flops.

The private schools around here are navy or khaki pants and white, light blue or navy tops. Back in the dark ages when I went to Catholic school, I had to wear a white button down shirt with a collar, an ugly green plaid jumper, and knee-high socks. A navy cardigan on top in the cold months. The one good thing about it--I always knew what I was going to be wearing.

Our school is starting a hot lunch program this year. I can't wait to find out the cost. I hope it's reasonable so we can skip packing a lunch some days.

The public schools have uniforms? Roggie just wears whatever happens to be semi-clean and only half wrinkled.

If we hadn't moved last year, the public school that I would have attended would have uniforms. When she goes now which is a public a school, there are no uniforms.

Nothin - my thoughts exactly and my kids aren't even in school yet! haha, except for the "no spaghetti straps" and "shorts should be longer than fingertips" (both of which were never enforced), my public school had no dress code.

Thing 2 goes to public school and she doesn't have to wear a uniform. But her school is an island in that they don't do things the way the others do. It's a kind of private school within the public school system. I don't know if the other high schools have uniforms.

None of the public schools in our area have uniforms, but it's getting more popular around the Twin Cities metro area.

The only school that has uniforms around here is the Catholic school. We live in the hood so they're worried about kids wearing gang colors here. I'm sure there are other reasons, but this is the main reason behind it.

That's strange that they allow opting out. I mean, that kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a uniform if not everyone has to wear it.

Got to work this morning and realized that DD9's nightmare last night is eerily similar to Charlottesville. People marching with fire and someone dying in the street. Dammit! I totally didn't put it together at 3 am when she woke me up and I allowed her to climb in with us as always. We never watch the news or discuss things like this around them so she must have picked it up at school.
As if I'm not already personally bothered and upset about the whole thing. How in the world am I going to explain it to her. Ugh!
She also had a rough day at school because her bff just came back from foot surgery using one of those knee wheelchairs. DD was expecting to help her but I guess got overshadowed/replaced by another girl C who typically doesn't even speak to bff. DD's view was that C only stepped in to help for all of the compliments she received. I can see that being true. 4 days into school and I can't with the girl drama already.

Parents were surveyed last school year about uniforms or not. If 2/3 of the school opted out, the entire school would stay no uniforms. Well, we had a lot of people not return the surveys so the default is uniforms. Except my kids cried when they heard uniforms and dh and I don't want them. So even if they didn't offer the option, we'd be opting out.

My son likes the uniforms. He said he doesn't have to spend any time deciding what to wear in the morning and now if he wears the same thing over and over, nobody will notice. I told him that only works until he starts to stink.

Y'all, my C started Kindergarten today! I'm equal parts sad and excited. He seriously walked in the room and didn't even look back at me.

I feel your pain. Both the girls did that. I didn't want them to throw a fit or anything, but a single tear would have helped. I cried in the car after I dropped them off.

I am not sure if you have seen this groknation.com/news/mayim-bialik-explaining-charlottesville-to-my-children/ but I think Mayim Bialik gives some good talking points. I realize that she has a decidedly different perspective being Jewish(which I am not). But, like her I had to discuss with my son some of the historical back story. I had to point out the right of all to have an opinion and where the first amendment comes into play. But I also had to discuss how horribly wrong the whole thing went. As my son is 13, I also had to engage in conversation about the reaction from politicians, including the president and his seemingly changing remarks from day to day.

I told him that only works until he starts to stink. Being practical instead of fashionable! Reminds me of my son. One time I told him he could no longer wear his favorite pants because they were getting too short - he only grew up never filled out. He said "Mom, I don't care how they look, they still fit me in the waist and I want to keep wearing them." They had to disappear in the wash . I actually preferred school uniforms. No arguing over what met dress code, especially for the girls. Prior to uniforms, there were never any shorts that DD could wear and it was never clear what was a non t-shirt. They had a rule about seams in the side.

My kids both have some sort of stomach bug. So many diapers and butt wipings.
Harper has been potty trained for a year. I really need to teach her to wipe her own butt.

My youngest daughter is about to turn 5 and I still regularly wipe her butt. Sometimes she likes to do it herself... but then I have to deal with her underwear .

No, I don't care that you wiped 10 times - if there is still poop, you need to wipe!

A month and a half to 5, and I'm still wiping poopy butts. The kid does his own at daycare, but doesn't do the best job (though better than his older brother did until recent months). Plus, he still wears a pull up at night. What can I say? I prefer that to washing sheets every other day.

I don't remember having to wipe butts once potty trained. I do remember having to explain to one kid that after you take a bath you put on a new pair of underwear, even if the previous pair did not look dirty. That is not the place we try to save on the amount of laundry.
