constanz: You lurker you!! ha ha ha I did not realize that it was the same person that we all tried to help over on the MSN board until a ways into the thread. Something was oddly familiar about her responses and then it hit me. If I had realized, I would never have even attempted to respond to her request for help. As soon as I realized though, I called her out on it. Why she keeps bringing up the same old same old problem is beyond me. Because misery loves company? Because those who cannot learn from the past are destined to repeat it? (Or something like that...) Ya, and if I had remembered her from the past I definitely WOULD NOT HAVE repeated the discussion. I honestly thought that she wanted help. I love the part when someone suggested that she start her own thread asking for suggestions and SHE asked THEM to start the thread FOR HER.

Dancin Something we have learned this week you need in emergency preparedness is cash. During power outage you cannot process credit cards, pump gas or many other things that you take for granted. We had to drive for miles to get gas for chainsaws and generators and diesel for equipment to move debris out of roadways. At least with cash you can get some of the basics that you need. mommy2two: We have $2,000 hidden in the house. Do you think that's enough?

My church is collecting items to take to a sister church in Tuscaloosa. What are the good sales this week. I know about the ivory soap and plan to price match at WalMart (I doubt CVS has any left) but what other items are freep this week. I cleared out a lot of my stockpile as I was asked to donate to a women's shelter. So I want to be able to get as much as I can in the next couple of days.

I wanted to reply back, since I shop a lot of organic and shop at Trader Joes every week for milk, yogurt and a lot of other staples, but I saw that there was a lot of history and I decided to keep quiet. Since I spend next to nothing or get paid to buy all household stuff, I can splurge on organic food, milk and yogurt now. Thanks a lot for the deals ladies. saveinla: No history. There were several of us on the GC that were trying to help her in the past and as I remember it, the discussion ended with no animosity. I started getting a little irritated today when I finally realized who she was and that she was still singing the same sad song. I thought I did pretty well at keeping my cool while still calling her out on it.

She does not get the big picture, that if you can save on the diapers and other kids and household stuff, then you can spend more on the organic food. You have more patience than me dancinmama. But I don't think she will change her mind and thinks that all coupons are for junk food. Centsable shoppin does a section about organic food at Krogers now and there are coupons on whole foods, mambo sprouts and other websites and there are a lot of deals to be found, but I don't know how to explain it to someone with a closed mind. Oh well - it's her loss I guess.

It doesn't sound like she comprehended a word of it. I invested a lot of time trying to help her only to be insulted. Well, you know what they say: You can lead a horse to water.... Ah, that feels better.

I started reading that other thread out of curiosity - I've only gotten to the 2nd page.
But, I have a comment already...how we spend money is all about choices.
For example, I am allergic to nitrates and sulfites, so I can't eat processed lunch meat. So, I buy my turkey for sandwiches at Whole Foods. It's now at about $12 a pound. Ouch. Yeah.
Now, I could make another choice and eat something cheaper that is still nutritious - ie peanut butter. I choose to eat turkey, because I like it. But, I also choose to be very flexible in other areas. I'm happy to get any brand of toothpaste, razors, maxi-pads, soap, etc that I can get for free. And, like Dancin Mama, I get my bread at the Oraweat factory - so I'm also not picky about having some kind of fancy bread.
One thing I know, is that the pickier you are all-around, the less choices you have. The more flexible you are, the more choices you have. And, this isn't true just about grocery buying, of course. It's an all-around life truth. In my opinion.

frugalsuz: For the Renpure Organics MIR: I was wondering.....if I use a Wags Rebate Receipt then I should be able to get my check since the company won't know how I paid or are they rejecting Rebate Receipts as well? What do you think? Thanks picghaw - I think you'd be fine with a rebate receipt, but who knows? To be safe, I'd hold on to the bottle of shampoo/conditioner until you actually get your money back. You could always return it if they don't make good on the rebate check. Thanks frugalsuz. In general, how do you handle MIRs submissions with receipts that show use of coupons and low/no OOP? Is there an art to concealing this data or should it even matter to the Mfr? I have to submit a Jewel receipt in which I paid with RRs for a Kelloggs Crunch Oats TMF rebate. Thanks again

HOUND ALERT!! For those who are planning on sending me Ivory Qs, please send them to mommy2two. I'd rather have an immediate need taken care of. I can always collect for xmas boxes later. Thanks Mommy2two. So happy to hear that your brother's friends are okay. Dancinmama & constanz - I haven't even been to SS, but I already know who you are referring to - just by reading your posts I think its the same person who got a lot of us upset with her "poor me" attitude, but never wanted to do anything about her situation (despite all our advice & Q offers)

mommy2- I am gathering a bunch of qs I got when I got some coupons with products- they are mostly $1 or larger qs. Do you just need HBA stuff or would stuff like dish soap, laundry soaps, etc help? Some of them are MQs other are Target.

Okay, this isn't really a hound alert, but it is - sort of...
Do any of you live in the Cleveland area & have a subscription to Angie's List(or know someone who does)? If so, please PM me or email me at mercee75 at gmail dot com. I have a favor to ask that I can explain in PM or email.
Thanks!

Dancin: Some people just don't get it!! Had to chime in on the conversation!! mawmaw: It will be interesting to see what she has to say. The fact is that she already has a "system" for how she purchases what her family needs. She knows that what she is doing is very expensive. She wants to save money, but she doesn't really want to change her system. It became pretty obvious to me later on in the thread that because she doesn't really want to do the work associated with using coupons, she'd just like them to go away for everyone else because she believes that THEN her prices would go down. I don't know how my using a coupon on crackers is going to reduce the cost of her radishes, but I think that's how she sees it. I tried to be direct with her without being rude. Maybe I didn't do such a good job. Like Joyce said on Extreme Couponing, "She just hasn't been broke enough yet."

Wow, just read the whole Extreme Couponing/Smart Spending thread and I really don't even know what to say. I think we've all met folks like this. They'll complain and complain about something but not want to do the actual work to make any changes to fix it. Let her keep voting down suggestions to save money and bashing coupons - more for us!

What she needs to do is stop claiming that she wants to save money so that people don't WASTE THEIR TIME trying to help her. When I realized that we (here on the GC) had been down this path with her before - that's when I began to get just a wee bit irritated.

She has pleaded for "help" in understanding how to coupon over and over in multiple threads, both back on MSN and here. I've learned not to respond, because it doesn't matter what you say, it won't work for HER, and then it just turns snippy and rude and nasty, so, I don't try to help anymore. I really don't understand why she continues to ask, in multiple threads, about how to coupon, but then bashes it, can find nothing that relates to her, and wants to end the conversation. I will save my breath, time and patience for someone who truly wants to learn. I caught on long ago that this is not the case with her.

Thanks again picghaw - I really don't worry about it too much to be honest. 99% of the time, the company is looking to see that you purchased the right item and will give you back the price of the item. They process tons and tons of rebates and I can't imagine they're combing through receipts to look at OOP costs and coupons used. Some people black out (with a marker) other items on the receipt and coupons used, so you could do that too.

Too bad I did not realize/remember who she was until it was too late. She just needs to take a pass on any threads that have the word "coupon" in them. ha ha ha I would much rather have talked about The Ripple Effect of Extreme Couponing.

picghaw: If anyone would know, frugalsuz would. She is the queen of rebates and I bow down to her expertise. When my receipt is short in length and it's obvious I paid very little or got the item for free, I cover up the coupon reduction area (usually at the bottom of the receipt) with an address label. They probably think I just want to make sure they have my address but what I'm really doing is being stealth in my mission. That's what DH calls my couponing: "are you going out on another mission? Don't forget command central." Command central is my small canvas tote that carries all my q's to be used and the envelopes for the various stores I'll "attack"!!

RE COUPONS: i have a degree in marketing and i had to take a class on consumer behavior and in this class they talked about how in the 90's POST company took away the coupons and lowered the price of the ceral products.. they thought that sales would go up but they didnt...what they realized that the american consumer wants to pay less than their neighbor...so they brought back the coupons and raised the prices...in usa consumers feel that if u are on the prowl and proactive lower prices are in your favor and if u are not proactive higher prices are in your here to stay...some of the people are just plain whiners...i started looking for a deals about 2 years ago...i didnt want to be one of those people who couldnt afford anything because of inflation...i wanted to be proactive instead of reacting to my situation...life is full of choices nobody said life was easy and free...couponing is alot of work but just taking some small steps ie sales ads one can save some money ..another thing do not assume walmart is low prices all the time...wrong thinking.. TIME OR MONEY TAKE YOUR CHOICE...right now i have time more than money

I think it gives us a peek into how the other side thinks. Unfortunately, marketing was not a major at the university that I attended so I never had the opportunity to take any marketing classes. If you have any other "tidbits", I'm sure many of us would be interested. Thanks for sharing.

ETA - so sorry, this is a dead deal. It was working yesterday (5/2) but not today.
Rite Aid deal - 20 packs of Duracell batteries are in the circular for $9.99 with a $1 UP. But....they're ringing up as $3.49 for some people! These UPC's are confirmed to be working: AA 4133375864 and AAA 4133301548, but you could always ask for a price check in the store on other varieties. Look for $1 RA peelies on them and combine with $1 coupons from the P&G rebate coupon booklet if you have them. The deal is limit four. ;D The RA coupons are limit one per customer, so be sure to not use more than one at the same time.

mercee: Hey, girl!! There you are. Where have you been? I'm sorry but I neither live in the Cleveland area not have a subscription to Angie's List, but it's great to see ya. I've been in lurk mode it seems for the past month - once I got back from vacation. I haven't been "feeling it", but still doing some couponing. I'm hoping someone lives in the area & has a subscription...if not here, then I may post on one of the bigger boards, though I suspect most of us on these boards are too cheap to have a subscription - LOL Or won't admit it online for fear of the retaliation it will have!

weaselfer, The toothpaste/toothbrush deal at RA is a good one this week. Buy a TP or TB (check the correct size/variation) for 2.99, use 1.50 Q from P&G insert and get back 2 Up. Limit is 4 on this deal. The gillette fusion deal is also a good one. At CVS, the Colgate TP is also a free deal. CHeck frugalsuz's blog for the details. I don't have an RA (boo!) but thanks for reminding me to check frugalsuz's blog. She always does a great job. It looks like they are primarily wanting baby stuff and tolietries that can fit in a ziploc bag(they are asking for those too). Are there any diaper deals this week? There was a $1.50 Q for pampers that came out. Now that mine our out of diapers I don't pay attention. Of course, this week is also my DD's school food drive for the local food bank. My stockpile will take a hit, but I will just build it back this summer. *gasp* To think that some people pay retail!
