I can't believe you don't already have one! They have a store card that you can only use there that Synchrony Bank handles (same login as my Sam's Club and JCPenney cards). Then Chase has an Amazon Visa that can be used anywhere. I believe you get a $100 Amazon gift card when you sign up for that one. Wait. So the Chase Amazon visa gives me the $100 gift card and money back everywhere? I'm gonna have to look into it. The cash back at other places besides Amazon isn't the best deal you can get, but if you're a big Amazon shopper why pay more than you have to?
5% at Amazon, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and Chase Travel. 2% on gas, restaurants, and local transit 1% on everything else

We went to the dog park on site since it's so nice outside. We got swarmed by little kids wanting to pet the twins and throw balls for them to chase. I personally got overwhelmed, so I figured the twins were too and we left after a few minutes.
I know the twins are good with kids, but they've never been around so many at once. There were at least 10 of them. One asked if he could ride one of them. That was a big nope! We hightailed it out of there. I told the kids that the twins are old so they get tired quickly. That was only partly true. They are older. At least they got to run for a little bit.

My job is really wearing me out. I guess I was off work long enough for me to really get out of practice. Or maybe it’s that I’m just too old for this shit.
The lady I work with is really happy to have me back at work, she says she was tired of working with the men that had been filling in, because they are lazy bums.
The gossip for today…. I’ve been hearing that the man in charge of our entire facility is leaving. Idk if that’s true or not, they never stay for long. They either get sent to us because they got in trouble somewhere else, or because they want to make a name for themselves by putting their foot on our necks and whipping us into shape. Which never, ever works, when that is the approach.
Anyway, the word is that the big boss has been romantically involved with an employee at another facility. One night his vehicle was parked at her house and somebody busted all the windows on his vehicle. I don’t know if he is married or not, they usually are. I don’t know if any of that is true either. But usually when rumors like that are going around, there is at least a nugget of truth in it somewhere, even if it’s not all true.

I'm watching my silly cat Tiger. I push the twin mattresses apart on the bed platform when I make them up, so there is a big gap between. Tigger thinks that is the neatest thing to get in between them and play. He is pretty chunky so a sight to see. He found a silicone toe separator I use between them earlier. He has been carrying and chasing that thing all over the house. Anytime he can find one he has a ball with them. Hubs side is made up, I really need to do mine, but he is having so much fun thought I would leave him be for a bit. I like watching cats play.
Need to get a shower, I'm cold after the ice cream, brrr. It was so sunny and bright out today, looked warm but once again it was not. Hubs naps off and on and then works too. He put out around 100 pounds of fertilizer today. The lawn needed it, it hasn't been done since the last time I did it several years ago. He said don't mow till it rains so it will soak down and not get thrown around and end up uneven.
There is a nice house in Olympia for sale, a friend of son's is relocating. The best part is it has a huge garage, has had a nice workshop added on. It's $539k, really sad that we are not ready to sell ours yet. It also has a beautiful kitchen, on only .30's of an acre, would really serve our needs. But we need to sell first so we know how much we have to spend, don't want to get in over our heads. I have to be patient and take a step at a time. But hard to see something like that and have to pass it.

My coworker had on some cute hiking boots today. She wore them because she said my hiking boots yesterday were cute. Hers today were cute lol. She and I talk about shoes a lot, because usually the same shoes are comfortable to both of us, so when one of us finds something that is comfortable, the other will sometimes buy the same shoe. Neither of us has gone wrong yet with being a copy cat.
The ones she had on today were made by Columbia and I went on the website while I was at work to find them, and bought a pair in a different color when I got home. They were on sale for $75. If they are comfortable to me, I’m going to buy another pair. I always buy dark color shoes to wear to work, usually black. It’s so dirty in there that light color shoes look awful and grimy in just one day. I pretty much don’t care how I look when I go to work, but I don’t like wearing visibly dirty shoes anywhere, not even to work.

It's a bad option but it beats foreclosure. The seller gets some cash out of the deal, probably less than if they sold the house in a more traditional manner, but possibly more than they'd get if the house was auctioned. They probably don't have the time or the money to fix up the house to get a better price or else they wouldn't be behind.
The cash can be used to pay the new rent or to move to a slightly cheaper rental. The seller may also be able to avoid having a foreclosure on their credit report, which dramatically improves their rental options.
But I'm sure that those reasons aren't the ones that are being hyped. Nor are they mentioning the possibility that the buyer is a bad actor who will move slowly to improve their odds of buying the house more cheaply at auction.
I regret posting the above response. The odds are good that I have inadvertently said something neutral about the scum of the earth. To get an idea of how the cash for ugly houses things work, I strongly recommend that you read this ProPublica article. Some of the folks in this business are nasty and it's almost certainly not just a few bad actors working for one particular company. It might be worth your time to read the article even though you can never imagine ever getting tangled up with such folks. Exorcizing any illusions that these folks are helping you or anyone else out is quite protective.
When you need to sell fast, everything that you tell one of these folks about your own situation or the condition of the house diminishes your bargaining power. They are not fiduciaries.
I didn’t read the entire article, and skimmed most of what I did read, because it was pissing me off. I get really aggravated about people taking advantage of vulnerable people and calling it “business”. In your first reply, you talked about people that are behind on their mortgage and do something like that to avoid foreclosure. If they couldn’t afford the mortgage payments, how the heck can they afford to rent the same property, for what almost certainly will be an even bigger monthly payment. Use the money they got from selling the house? What happens when that money runs out? It just really doesn’t make sense to me. I know someone that had a house built, and within just a few years, was behind on the mortgage payments. She was in contact with her mortgage company, and they were supposedly working with her to work it out. Then one morning a man rang her doorbell, wanting to see the house he’d just bought at auction. She had paid $250k to have the house built, he bought it for $150k. She never told me that part, I only know that because I was nosey enough to look at the public records. He offered to let her rent the house from him, and she did, until she moved into an apartment. I don’t know what he charged her to rent it from him. I don’t consider the man that bought the house at auction, a “bad” guy. If anything, I think it was kind of shady for her mortgage company to give her the impression that they were working things out with her, and not making it clear to her that they still moving forward with foreclosing and selling the house. I know another person that something similar happened to. I am not sure whether my house is a noose around my neck, which it often feels like….. or the ace in my pocket that I intended it to be. Whatever it is, I hope and pray that I am never in a situation where I am ripe for the picking, for predators in the housing business.

o.m.g. My folks are driving me crazy. I am like what I remember from the Matrix movie, ducking and dodging shit, and leaning this way and that one, trying to avoid getting hit with the shit coming at me.
I seriously wonder why the fuck the people I love the most can’t just be fucking normal.
For years, I have wondered if it’s ME that is crazy. And there have been times in my life that I probably was kind of crazy…. I feel like I’m kind of crazy right now.
I am struggling with trying to figure out how to fix my own damn life, how the fuck am I supposed to know how to fix other people’s shit?
It is too much. So imma just go to bed, and hope I can get some sleep so I can try again tomorrow.

DH even picked up dinner on his way home. Also, there is a very slim chance that I may travel to The Netherlands for work this summer. Imposter Syndrome is in full force.

It's been one of "those" days. I called DS's doctor's office today, early, since he's been fighting a bad cough. Never heard back, so I called the after hours line tonight. In their notes they claim someone called early in the afternoon, but I had both my cell phone on me plus I was home all afternoon, so I told them whoever they talked to, it wasn't anyone from our family. So, I'm gonna have to deal one more night with his coughing until those idiots call me tomorrow. If I don't hear from them by noon I'll be calling them back. Again. This doctor is part of a group that just announced recently they'll be cutting hospital services, so I'm wondering if I need to go "doctor shopping". The problem is, a lot of the hospital systems here are cutting corners, so I'm not sure who's any good.

Tonight's community meeting was very poorly attended which is bad, but also good because the crazy crowd that packed last month's meeting was MIA. The speaker was excellent. She's an insurance fraud investigator and talked about how fraud and excessive litigation has, with other factors, driven the cost of home and auto insurance to their current levels, and why so many insurers are leaving many markets, including Texas.

I only wanted a couple pair of socks that are thin, one in black and one in white. I found gold toes, wasn't sure they still make them. But I had to order 6 pair, I don't need all those. Then I forgot I ordered those and ordered some from Temu, I need to send some back. I couldn't even find a single pair at Walmart, I don't want to have to buy multiples of things, but sometimes all you can find. I have plenty of heavy socks which I wear with my bigger, heavier shoes, but I have been needing some thin ones for lighter weight shoes for a long time.
I wish department stores were back and we had stores here like we used to where you could actually buy what you want and need. You either can't find what you need or have to buy quantities. It is a horrible clothing dessert here, they are going to push people more and more to online shopping which is going to cause more stores to close down. I am so tired of the changes since COVID that have changed our way of life.
I had read long COVID was making people ill, but no I haven't read how bad it is. I need to read about that, not sure why I haven't.

I think I've expressed here how much I abhor sparrows and I'm in a constant state of war with them in my barn. Well, tonight I noticed one caught up in the netting blocking the hay loft (that the little bastards have figured how to circumnavigate). His foot was caught and he was hanging upside down about 12 feet up. So, after bitching about how much I hate him I climbed up in the loft and fished him up to me and started the painstaking job of getting him free. It became obvious after awhile that I wasn't going to get anywhere without something to cut the netting, but I couldn't let him go or he'd just make it worse or hurt himself, so I decided to call Carrot in the house to bring me a scissors. Well...metal barn with no service inside. I had to pull down the netting in that section just so I could get close enough to the elevator doors to get service. Finally got through to him and he brought me the scissors. He was a little confused. He knows I hate them and wasn't sure if I wanted the scissors to free him or cut his head off. With both of us working on it we were able to get it all de-tangled from his super skinny long toes and let the little devil spawn go. Tomorrow morning I'll be chasing him with a broom along with all the others trying to get them out of the barn.

Can you tolerate monocular vision? This is when you train your brain to use the eye you need to use for the task. My right eye is used for close up vision, left is for distance vision. I also have astigmatism as well as being severely nearsighted (my script was a -11.5 at my last fitting). Age related farsightedness was just a bonus. I used contacts with monocular vision, so when I got the lenses implanted, my brain was already trained. Funny thing though, when I get tired this is how I know I’m done as my brain gets confused and my eyes go wonky. This surgery really did change my life. I did have to wait for my eyes to stop shifting. My prescription was stable until I hit menopause and it shifted from -9.5 to a -11.5 over a period of 6 years or so. It finally stabilized the year before Covid hit, so I jumped. I had no idea that was even an option, which is why I am trying to get an appointment to see what options are out there for me. Menopause hid my eyes hard, as well. I went years without any real changes, but the last 3 have been killer. You really want to wait for your eyes to stabilize first. I had 2 yearly appointments which my prescription remained essentially the same. Now might be the time to see how your brain processes monocular vision. Give it a year, try it out and if it works for you then you can ditch everything. I had my eyes done a week apart. Normally the surgeon does them 2 weeks apart, but he didn’t want me being blind that long. Even so, it was an interesting week!

Back from out excursion today, we were off the ship at 7:30, in a thunderstorm. At least the rain really did cool things off.
We went to a town square that had a bunch of statues, a(nother) Buddist temple and a school. The school was utterly charming, and we went to an English class where the students practiced on us. We had a beach barbecue, then came back to the ship. These clothes are definitely done for! We can only get one wearing before they need to be washed.
Guys……TD brought 2 pair of shorts. Laundry is done every single day. When I saw what he had laid out on the bed to pack, I thought about questioning it. He’s a grown man, right? He should know how to pack. Last night, as he was hauling his sweaty clothes off to laundry (again) he muttered he should have packed more clothes. Ya think?
We have dinner tonight at the Chef’s Table. He’s just humoring me about going, only because 2/3 of the menus I booked are his favorites.

Good morning, adulting invisipeeps, playing the credit card rewards game, buying cheeses for the discerning and cute shoes and socks, preparing for spring and keeping your homes in the black. Welcome to (Good) Friday. I hope you enjoy your day heartily. I hope there are hot cross buns or maybe NY bagels awaiting your pleasure. And, that you may imbibe an adult beverage of your choice. OMG, Knee Deep in Water Chloe, those cheeses! I want them all. Now. I'm glad you were able to free that sparrow, minnesotapaintlady. Yes, it will plague you, but the thought of it caught would have plagued you more. Good the community meeting was not barbed, soupandstew. Since the Great Recession, there seems to have developed an entire industry devoted to preying on people in danger of losing their homes. Forebearance was the name of the game for a while but I think that's over. People falter and then quickly can in no way get together the $ to pay the amount owed. I wish this was taught in high school, that the home is the first place to allocate what money you have and not to let it slip away. I can hear the rain splashing on the ground. It's been raining now for over 24 hours, more or less consistently. Due to the rain, I took no photos yesterday. From my archives I pulled up this, from exactly one year ago:

Looks like we are going to have to put on something other than shorts and t shirts, since it’s a restaurant rather than the buffet. The buffet here has been extraordinarily good on this ship. Much better than the Venus we were on in Feb.

Got my biggest work thing done - setting goals. Goals that I now have 9 months to meet. Team meeting at 10, which I am sure will result in more things needed TODAY. I might be phoning it in.

No throw ups. Everyone slept much better today.
DD1 was so tired she snuggled with me last night. Which I will take.
We have found the secret of keeping the missy quiet: legos. She can do little lego sets all by herself.
Now we have to figure out what DD1 might find "fun" for today....<sigh> We will go to a science museum whether she likes it or not. She wants to be a math or science teacher....so...
I have actually been reading a chapter book for adults. (It's killers of the moon flowers). It is probably cheating, because I've read the movie, but it's not a whole lot like the movie, either.

I have already started laundry for the day. On today's agenda is cleaning the upstairs and going to Aldi. We didn't have splenda packets so I couldn’t make coffee. I went to Starbucks and I'm now obsessed with the caramel ribbon crunch Frappuccino. I get it made with almond milk so I don't regret it later.
Also, I hate people. I was in the drive through at Starbucks and the line started moving so I did too. I saw a lady getting out of her car when we started moving forward. She decided that she shouldn't have to wait for the cars to stop moving so she marched herself in front of my moving car to get to the entrance. Then she had the nerve to be pissed at me. Didn't your mother teach you to watch for cars? It's too early for all that. I'm gonna be lazy and have my coffee before I clean.
