A few years ago, we were in Key West with the kids an a bunch of drag queens walked out in front of the tour bus and did a little performance trying to get us to come into their club.
We just told the kids they are men dressed up as women and they perform songs and dance. They didn't seem freaked out about it. They thought they were interesting.

When DS was little, his best friend's dad was a drag queen. He was a lovely man, inside and out, and often baby-sat. He used to be a fighter pilot in the Canadian Air Force. When he was getting ready for drag show, the kids would hand him his make-up while he told them about the military and emergency aircraft engine repair. Kids really think nothing of it, and know people come in all shapes and sizes. In full make-up he was STUNNING, being half-Filipino with sexy sloe eyes...I was a little jealous.

Pure and simple, this is hate in action. Stop using “faith” as a cover for hate. God is all about love. NOTHING about true Christian faith permits hate. She know it, and knows she’d lose if she “argued” about her faith. She’s not a Christian, she’s a hater. She would probably also be shocked to find out that many people mentioned in her favorite bible stories were not white...

She would probably also be shocked to find out that many people mentioned in her favorite bible stories were not white... Like Jesus! No-one knows what Jesus actually looked like but as he wasn't described by his contemporaries as appearing in anyway unusual the chances are high that he resembled other men of his time and region: news.artnet.com/art-world/jesus-face-forensic-anthropology-art-392823

Sadly I think all kinds of people like this are coming out of the woodwork. I lost my faith in people last week. There was going to be a story hour for children at a library I'm familiar with and it ended up being cancelled. The drag queens doing the story hour received multiple death threats. I could not believe the comments I read on Facebook from supposed good Christians in 2019. Why in the world were drag queens doing story hour? Drag queens are awesome. So sparkly and dramatic. Kids love them!

Does anyone watch Finding your Roots on PBS? It is pretty amazing how many people are mixed race. Ty Burell and Carly Simon were two that stories that stuck out recently. But it is rare to find someone that doesn't have some black roots, and even more rare for the black people on the show to not have a white guy mixed up in there somewhere.
Also, Fred Armisen - Korean. Who knew? I thought he was middle eastern.
Race is skin deep - literally.

I actually think it is good to show your children that being different is not bad - and it can be entirely normal and acceptable. When my kids were teenagers I took them to visit a cousin who is gay. Before we went there - I explained to my kids that she and her GF were a "couple". My feeling was that my kids being gay was not the worst thing that could happen to them, being gay and feeling so unaccepted that you might contemplate suicide - that is the worst thing that can happen.
I know about 2 years ago, my kids told me their younger cousin asked me what the family would do if someone came out as Gay. Fortunately it was DH's side and I responded that there were several "gay" family members and that they were "out" to the family. My DH told a story that his Grandpa once asked one of his cousins who is a lesbian, when she was going to have children. Her response was "Grandpa, you know I am a lesbian, I am never going to have children. My niece who was getting married had a shower that coincided with Pride Fest, one of the male cousins rode along with his mom to the venue dressed as a woman - and flat out told us he was headed to pride fest. He was about 18 at the time.
I also have a cousin on my Dad's side of the family that has a son who is gay, and my Aunt (the child's grandmother) once told me there were several cousins that were Gay. I did not feel it appropriate to pry - because she did not seem to be in a good place at the time, and my parent's would not be 100% comfortable with that, so I did not ask any questions. I kind of think I know, and I am not sure if she knew about her grandson at the time, b/c he would have been pretty young.
My Catholic Mother has at least 2 nieces that are Gay, and a great nephew. She has 2 close friends that have children that are Gay, I know of a third from her church, but they are friends of my Mom's friends, but not part of her social circle. My Mom's friends are accepting, not quite comfortable - they think it is wrong, but they hold these individuals close and dear - they don't want to see violence against them and they don't shun them or shut them out. If my Mom was invited to a gay wedding for a family member I actually think she would attend.
I would like to see the venue that denied the inter-racial couple's wedding sued. I don't know what can be done about the library event - unless security is provided.
I have a niece that is married to a black man and a First Cousin that has a bi-racial child and I think I have a cousin that is married to a bi-racial woman. She is a lovely person. People just need to get over themselves.
Lesbians have children, it’s easier for them of course to have them. She must not want children which is a whole nother thing. Yes, close friends of ours have a family member in a lesbian relationship - they "share" a daughter. I was thinking the same thing (about DH's cousin) when I told the story, but that is how it was relayed to me - so apparently children where not something she desired. The other couple is so thoroughly out to their family I didn't even think of them when I was commenting. One partner's step Mom has an issue, but the rest of the family and her Grandma are accepting, so they are always included, as an aside - one of the women is actually a Roofer and boy does she have big muscles. I have wondered if she takes hormones.

I subscribe to the paper in Boulder online.
Article today on the next children's activity with the drag queens. Article used a picture from a previous event and they had a lot of kids in the audience.

At the end of that particular episode, it was revealed to Larry David he had a famous distant cousin he did not know about. His distant cousin was Bernie Sanders.

That would have been much cooler.

My family has a little of everything. Adopted children of other races, interracial marriages...and then there's my black cousin that gave birth to a little blue eyed red head. LOL My uncle came out as gay 20 years ago after he raised a family of five kids and then divorced. Everyone in our family loves his partner (actually way more than we did his wife). I have a picture on my desk of my kids at older son's birthday party a few years back and he's standing next to his black cousins and his Chinese siblings. We're all family, nothing less. That people put some much negative energy into this is a bit mind boggling to me.
My favorite aunt is a lesbian and I have a few cousins that are gay. Some of my family is very religious so they think it is a sin but they also accept them and love them. Not sure if that makes sense. They really pray to "take the gay away" (lol) but also love them at the same time. I've been around gay people my entire life so I have no issues with it. My half-sister is married to a black man and has two gorgeous, bi-racial nieces. As far as I know, no one has a problem with her husband or children. Her husband is a very successful person who adores his family. Not sure why anyone who have a problem with that. Sadly, I'm not naïve and I'm sure there are asshats out there that do. I just hope they aren't in my family. Men dressing as women I have a problem with. In a cabaret show I am fine with it. Story hour with small children, my children wouldn't be attending.

My grandpa and all his siblings had dark skin and black hair. My dad and his brother look like them as well. My dad and brother have done the DNA thing. It's Italian blood not native American that made them look that way. Other than Italy, it was mostly western European countries that agreed with the family genealogy trees. My brother's tree keeps updating and adding relatives. Either we need to buy a lottery ticket or someone's lying about the family tree. I'm not looking to dig up buried skeletons. I wouldn't be totally surprised though. It's already super messy.

If you do then it links you to your other relatives who agreed to share it. My brother's has picked up some people that must be children or grandchildren of our mom's biological mom. She remarried and had more kids after divorcing my grandpa but that's about all I know.

This was after he divorced my mom but I'm not sure if he was still married to #2 or not. Anyway, he got someone pregnant and she didn't tell him until the baby was here. He finally got to meet the child and not long after, the mother was killed in an accident. I can't speak to specifics of why he didn't go for custody because I don't know them. But I often wonder how many other relatives I have out there that I don't know about.

My mom and her siblings found a long lost sibling through Ancestry.com. They knew he was out there from court records from my brother that was put up for adoption had on him when he found us, but there was no info on him as it was a closed adoption. It just said baby boy born to X on this date in this city.
Earlier this year he just popped up on our family tree right where he fit in as a half sibling and my uncle contacted him. Now he's on all our Facebook accounts and has come to some family stuff and is on the Christmas card lists for those that do that kind of thing. We just assimilate people.

Yeah... mine was so boring. I was hoping to find just a trace of Genghis Khan or Neanderthal. That would have been much cooler. I was thrilled when I got my 23 & Me results back with the news that I had more Neanderthal variants than 97% of people (I'm assuming 97% of the people tested to that date)! I decided that explained my weird awkwardness and pretty much everything else about me that is out of step with normal people. Then I learned that anyone with distinct northern European ancestry, particularly German, apparently tends to have a high Neanderthal variant score. (I'm sticking to my theory, though.)
