On the way you dress? Most of you are aware that my wife dresses me for work every day. However, she went over the line last night. We went to our son's "concert" at school. I threw on my comfy jeans (my favorite and they're well worn) and some shit kickers (it was raining and muddy). She looks at me and says "You're NOT going out like THAT are you??" I said of course I am. She said "We're going out and you should look nice." I gave her a look and said "I always look nice!" She just sighed. As most of you also know I wish she'd dress a certain way too but nooooo. So why am I obligated to listen to her? Note that I do not mind her dressing me for work. Do you criticize your SO mode of dress or do they to you?

...I don't mind... social protocols can be elusive, and a second opinion can help us navigate the fashion world... ...besides, imo, if it's a "concert" where the kids have to wear the proverbial black pants and white tops, then it's about as "black tie" as you can get in the public school... so my habit is to try and follow along with the kids' dress code... fwiw... ...so how'd your boy do?

No BTDT, it was an American theme, they all had to wear red white and blue. He is just like me, he hated it. He didn't really participate all that much but he did ok. He was supposed to do a piano concert that his piano teacher was giving but he chickened out. I was close to making him do it but decided it was his decision. He's very self concious, like a teenager almost.

DH never says anything to me other than compliments, but there were times I questioned his wardrobe choices. He sometimes combines a green dress shirt with a olive-colored sweater and dark green slacks. I call it "the ninja turtle outfit." On his off days he throws on worn-out jeans and either a WDW/Star Wars/Boy Scouts/Monty Python t-shirt and I really don't care.

I agree with your wife Piggy. Since it was a concert for your boy, you should dress nice.
But of course I am the person that thinks it is wrong for people to wear jammies to the store or restaurant and words on their butts.

I'm going with Angel on this one, it was for your son.
DH dresses like a hick, but we live in a hick town so who cares?

I think nice jeans would have been fine. But if your hairy ass cheeks were poking out...then you should't wear them.
I have a nice pair of dress jeans that I got from White House/Black Market. They look very dressy and I wear them with a nice silky blouse and heels.

I don't like that look either BTDT!! Yesterday we were driving down by the mall and passed a group of teen boys. They were all walking duck style to keep their pants from completely falling down. I told my 16 year old that I would lock her in the basement if she brings home a boy like that!

I'm lucky to find clothes that fit, so you can imagine my joy when I actually look good! Angel I LOVE WHBM and Ann Taylor. I guess I'll hit them up next year.

Yeah, that's what she said. My favorite are kinda worn out a bit. She told me to put on another pair if I wanted to wear jeans but I wanted to be comfy.

My DH is a very sharp dresser; always has been. He does not put a lot of conscious effort into it. I think he just has the knack for it. His dad was likewise; his mom still is.
I come from a family in the "rag trade," but I admit I am more careless than he is. I actually tend to ask his opinion about what to wear or buy. He does not criticize me, but I have learned over time that he tends to know which things go together and look good.

Please note: if you are wearing pants that have words on the butt, you are not allowed to get mad when we stare at your butt. Some of us read slower than others!
My ex used to bitch about how I dressed. She mistook comfort for low self-esteem.

J-I don't EVER wear words on my butt. I think it is extremely tacky. Why would I want "juicy" or "hot stuff", or "spoiled" across my bum? Why would anyone?

You don't need the words, because your butt says it for you This was just a general comment that women who wear words on their butt have to accept staring.

I am getting ready to throw in my P90 video and start toning up my booty. I have a few months to get ready for my cruise. I better get busy!

I agree with your wife Piggy. Since it was a concert for your boy, you should dress nice. But of course I am the person that thinks it is wrong for people to wear jammies to the store or restaurant and words on their butts. I've apparently missed the memo that it's now acceptable to wear to court purple fleece jammie pants with tinkerbell on them and a ripped sweatshirt.

Dr Pig- first I really don't like your new avatar- kind of creepy Secondly- was your wife right? Were the other parents more dressed up then you were? DH hates feeling out of place so he usually asks me what I think he should wear to certain places- restaurants, parties, functions, plays, etc. Your wife is much nicer than I am if you even own clothes that she doesn't think you should wear out of the house. All of DH's clothes that I have issues with end up in the goodwill box when he isn't looking- Problem solved I have to jump on Angel's bandwagon- I live in a college town and have to drive by these kids at least twice a day, every day. The crap these kids leaves their houses/dorms in for school is crazy. When did wearing pjs to a college class become acceptable? If I have to run to the grocery store between the gym and my house I usually change back into my regular clothes.
