Comprehensive immigration reform would look into what we need and what we foresee on needing as filling in hour general populace.
If we foresee shortage of heart surgeons in the next 5 years because no med school students have any interest in it then we allow all those that wanna be heart surgeons in.
If it look s like we will need plumbers then construction people it is.
And always, always, always- young, possibly married, couples with young kids!
Giving a green card and a path to citizenship to an electrical engineer, 55 years old from Brazil or Nigeria doesn’t solve our future problems. 5-10 years and he is done for!
As it stands now we have the Lottery Visa that brings 50-70000 of various backgrounds but primarily college graduates or higher. we have our own of those!
The rest of those that come in a legal way are at the begining with a work visa that later extends to permanent stay. That is unfair for those that are educated in US because work visas are a way to undercut wages.
there are also many that come on work visas for position such as hotel house keeping and so on. These are kids that most of the time graduated college in their home countries(anywhere but Western Europe) and will take a job for $7.25 because that is a lot more than what they’d make home. Little do they know thta they will be charged rent (packed hotel rooms) and miscellaneous and they’d end up with almost nothing.
Next year there is a fresh batch of suckers!
And the list goes on! Not as simple as people think but not impossible either!
