We worked hard to achieve the culture we have. These people are not assimilating. If they were, they wouldn't enter/overstay illegally. If assimilating was happening, you wouldn't see any signs in Spanish either. They bring that very same culture here. I can’t even begin to explain what is wrong with your statements above and if I were would be a few pages and a couple days sp all I can say for now is “wow! You did done it!!” Which is a very convenient way of saying you have nothing ?

I can’t even begin to explain what is wrong with your statements above and if I were would be a few pages and a couple days sp all I can say for now is “wow! You did done it!!” I agree with Mr.Oped. I married a Mexican from Mexico. He is a college Grad. Friends from college run gamut from education majors to Engineering Majors. Lots of very successful people in the group of friends. Nearly everyone is fully bilingual. Some are trilingual. It is normal for people to speak spanish in our group of friends. I do not speak spanish. It does not bother me. Usually I know enough spanish to follow the conversation. I will join the conversation in english. Usually they will switch back to english, they “forget” I don’t speak spanish. To say that these people are not fully assimilated is ridiculous. If you knew his friends and how successful they are, there is no way you would not consider that a racist statement. When I was in HS they used to consider being bilingual desirable, now people use it as a way to label people as “other”. As in deplorable ? As an aside, I would never consider it a racist statement, as 'Mexican' is a nationality.

You and I did nothing to achieve the culture we have. We are only the beneficiaries of it. Stop with the drama. Which has nothing to do with them assimilating, lol. And you and I didn't have to assimilate. We were born with silver spoons in our mouths. "lol"

So the rape and other physical mistreatment of young girls by their fathers and other family members is not something one would like to escape and flee from? The police have nothing to do with how these girls are assaulted and abused by men in their country. The culture of the country is responsible, something worth fleeing. We worked hard to achieve the culture we have. These people are not assimilating.

600,000? That's all? We take in 310,000 per year and we're 10 times smaller! Somehow we manage. That's like you taking in 3,100,000. The "richest country in the world" can only manage 600,000? ...and it's funny how conservatives don't give a crap about the environment, pass laws that will only muck it up, and then pull "carbon footprints" out of their nether regions to make some kind of point. Say conservatives do not want to go green is correct. Why not limit immigration just to keep from continually inflating our over use and production of green house emissions? The green people should be estatic to have us stop the increase of pollution especially when they will not stop China or India from increasing their pollution. As far as Canada versus US immigration numbers, Canada is still a young country pertaining to settlement of the acreage compared to the US. Canada's population per sq mile is a fraction of ours. Go ahead and flood your country and it's sensitive biological areas with immigrants. Take our share with you. Please! That's an incredibly lame argument. You're really reaching. So, you don't want immigrants from China? The use bicycles everywhere they go. If they move to the US, they'll want cars. Greenhouse gases. You don't want immigrants from the Nordic countries? They eat a lot of fish. If they move to the US, they'll be bombarded with beef, steak, and cheeseberders. Greenhouse gases. You don't want immigrants from France? They rely on nuclear. If they move to the US, they'll be using electricity from coal-fired power plants. Greenhouse gases. You don't want immigrants from the UK? They live in tiny homes with tiny fridges and drive tiny cars.If they move to the US, they'll want what everybody has.....Giant houses, fridges with doors the size of a queen-sized mattress, and SUVs the size of aircraft carriers. Green house gases. As a matter of fact, if ANYONE moves to the US, they'll join the cult of over-consumption. If you're really concerned about lowering your carbon footprint, how about working on your own back yard, first? And not blame the immigrants.

Now, would you care to address VB's premise that immigrants from 3rd world countries will increase greenhouse gases, and therefore, should be curtailed?

Why would they be assimilating though to our country if they were not entering our country in the first place or legally visiting our country for the set amount of time of their visa? And if I visit a country on a tourist visa, only the most xenophobic bigots would expect me to speak their language and only their language while there, even to my fellow travellers I am visiting the country with. God forbid I'm an Irish citizen and happen to be in NYC and while attending the St. Patrick's Day parade and wave the Irish flag. I clearly am not assimilating to American customs. lol.

Even the white kids had to cowtow to white American norms or be considered a little strange, or a little wierd, a little off, etc. Yes, white people had to assimilate or be considered an outcast of sorts. Assimilation is not religated to skin color. It is the accepted norms of white society that a few had to learn to follow the rules or else. And before you judge me for not saying people of color had it harder, they did. We have to admit white kids faced some heavy demons if they traveled out of the norms of white society.

Illegal immigrants aren't coming over with tourists visas. Duh. Of course they do. Duh. The majority of immigrants settling in the U.S. without authorization are first coming to the country legally, raising questions about the effectiveness of President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border. Crossing the border is not the way "the large majority of persons now become undocumented," the Center for Migration Studies (CMS) said in a recent report. Two-thirds of those who joined the undocumented population did so by entering with a valid visa and then overstaying their period of admission, the center reported. www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/visa-overstays-outnumber-illegal-border-crossings-trend-expected-continue-n730216www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2018/08/07/dhs-foreigners-overstayed-visas-2017/924316002/

As some of you know, I am multi-lingual. And you could say that I have travelled a fair bit. Through my observations over the years I have noticed that while they are not alone in this habit, and fortunutely not all of them have it, Americans in general seem to be very good at insisting that everyone, anywhere, speak to them in English. If people don't understand what they are saying they just start to talk louder and slower while at the same time getting this very condescending "my g*d I am talking to an idiot" look. No assimilation needed from them, but no respect for others shown by them either.

In a French province. Some of them get really irate.

It was the white kids choice to travel out of the norms of white society. So what? As for the res of your post, we 'white kids' had doors automatically open for us simply because we were white. I remember it when I first started working. White co-workers only. And if there were black employees, they didn't get the front line jobs with customer interaction. We white kids automatically received a better education than the black kids. You and I both know about segregated public schools. 'We' lived through those times and even attended schools where in other parts of the country white kids went to white schools and black kids went to black schools. White schools received better funding than black schools. I could go on and on about the positive things which came your and my way simply because we were white. No assimilation required.
