Debt Haven, Congratulations on getting your Saturdays back!
TheO- Idk about your sister, she seem difficult to say the least. Just keep balancing your Dad's needs with your own, and Congrats on the new GrandNephew! I wish I knew of a local painter that was reasonable - we have a few projects that we should hire out.
We vacuumed last night. Tonight I have to wipe down the bathrooms and Mop the floors. I also want to put out my Halloween Decorations.
I don't know what the plans are for the weekend yet - so I will make my To-Do list after the family makes plans. I expect we will have family either Sat or Sun at our house.
I do need to finish putting stuff away in the garage, but I don't think it will be a priority this weekend - so, next weekend my Goal is to get the car in the garage.

Cleaning people just left and I have a painter to call. This painter is here in town and doesn't advertise. Gets all clients by word of mouth. Called the painter. He is coming this afternoon to do an estimate. No regrets about not contacting the other people again. I want an in home estimate, not an estimate based on my description. ETA: He's been here and taken measurements. Will get back with estimates. His daughter is best friends with my cleaner. Says it can be done in a day with two coats of paint. Will set up fans. Doesn't need any work on walls as they are not damaged. Now to pick out colors.

Such wonderful news TheO!!! He sounds incredibly reactive, and so quick!
Thank y'all for your kind words. I got two amazing emails from my Job 3 boss and trainer saying that they will miss me but they know that I've had a hard time juggling everything in recent years. So no bridges burnt lol. Even though that job doesn't start up again till Feb, I feel so relieved to have one less thing to juggle. I do DH's books from home, it takes me 2-3 hours a month, so that's completely different.
This weekend (updated) - mark 37 grammar + 37 vocab/Sat - mark 22 (short) MSc papers/Sun (stretch goal) DS2 + GF are probably coming over Sat or Sun. So I probably won't manage my "stretch goal", but that's OK.

I started tackling the "strip our deck" to do on my list yesterday. I ran out of wood stripper before I had covered the whole deck and the pressure washer only does so much without it. I hope to finish it up before next weekend. I am so annoyed that this is the eleventy millionth time we have had to redo our deck and its only 10 years old. I purchased and applied the product that's supposed to last 10 years (similar to Behr Deck Over, different brand). Well, it didn't even make it a year and a half and we could peel it off like paper. We've seriously stripped and restained this deck at least 5 times now because nothing seems to sink in to it and stay. It all ends up peeling off, even when we do every single prep and application step properly. I told H once I get this gunk off, it's going to sit all winter unfinished. We have about 6 boards that need replaced due to rot/damage. Once spring arrives, I am just going to paint the darn thing. It probably won't last either, I really wish we could afford the composite deck boards.

No real decluttering going on over here, the house is still on the market and I have more showings tomorrow.
I did bring home a new sewing machine that I received for my birthday but it’ll stay in the box until I get settled or need to bind my next quilt.
Not too much to report and still frustrated and depressed about the house situation.

Good for you for persevering. This weekend (updated)- mark 37 grammar + 37 vocab/Sat - mark 22 (short) MSc papers (stretch goal) Midterms done, dishwasher run/emptied. I need a break.

I hope just the right buyer comes along very soon for your house, startsmart. nikiz628, have you looked at Benjamin Moore's stains and paints for decks? They're $$$pricey but I've found BM's products to be worth the money every time, in terms of ease of use and longevity.

debthaven -- Glad that you will have your Saturdays back. i think that you will enjoy the ability to just do what you can on those days without having to juggle around Job3. TheOtherMe -- I also think that you are doing a great job taking care of both yourself and your dad. Sis has been used to bossing people around and unfortunately now she has more time and less people to boss. startsmart -- Wishing for speedy solution for the house. nikiz628 -- Sorry about the deck issues. Hope that you find a product that will solve future issues. Update: My craft show for this morning has been cancelled for me. The location for the show had a scheduling issue and was not able to move us to an inside booth that we needed and had signed up for. I need to send in a form and they plan to reimburse me my fees. I will use my time to get some errands run and to catch up on some items that didn't get done this week. I was able to get several items out of the house this week. Several more books donated to the library and several more school related items given to two schools. Coming to the end of the school related items that I need to donate and should be finished those items with my next donation. I will be serving as a consultant at one of the schools and will be dropping off the items in a few weeks when I give my presentation to the faculty. Goals for week of 10/20: Several held over from last week or new ones with same topics. Crafts:*Project -- one complicated one in progress. (Have about another 18" of beading. Will take several nights to finish as I am using the smallest seed bead and can only do a little each night.) Hope to get a few easy items done as well. *Update Etsy listings-- still need to do this. *Add at least one item to the shop *Pack car for craft show -- Friday *Recharge back up charges and square device-- Friday Commitments and Errands:
*Tutoring -- None scheduled as of yet -- usually have either 1 or 2 hours a week *Classes -- Wednesday and Thursday *Activity with friends -- Thursday ? *Craft Show -- Saturday Routine Home Items:
*Maintain the organized areas *Keep up with dishes, laundry and general cleaning *Organize at least two one areas *Add several more items to donation box/ trash/library donation Sure that I have other items to add to this.

moneysquirrel said "Sis has been used to bossing people around and unfortunately now she has more time and less people to boss." Thank you for saying this. I had forgotten mom used to tell me how bossy she is and it's her way or she's mad. Mom used to be shocked by some of things she says to her husband. It must just be her personality because mom didn't boss dad or us around. Sister is used to telling 4 year olds what to do and she expected them to mind her. I don't mind her very well.

I did laundry all morning and then took a nap.
My absentee ballot arrived so I have voted and will get it mailed on Monday. That way I don't have to go to the polls on election day.

So, I'm a little freaked out at what I just did. DS2 bought me a tiny gorgeous "evil eye" bracelet when he went to Greece last summer. The idea is, you wear it till it falls off, and then YOU DON'T PICK IT UP AGAIN because it means you don't need it anymore. I already fight against my superstitious tendencies, so this was definitely not the ideal gift for me. DS2 made me swear to respect his instructions. You can probably guess where the bracelet finally fell off. Yup, in the toilet (thankfully at the very top of the bowl). I decided that part of the reason for not picking it up was to leave it for someone else to find, because THEY might need it. Obviously that wasn't going to happen if I flushed this lovely bracelet down the toilet. So I fished it out, washed it thoroughly, hand-sanitized it, and hid it in plain view (I was hoping our cleaner would realize its significance and take it. No dice.) Tonight I washed it a few times more, and then flung it over our gate onto our street. I will tell DS2 this story tomorrrorw. I hope he approves of my decision. I LOVED that bracelet, I would have loved to have kept it, but DS2 was adamant and I am superstitious. Hopefully I made the right decision, given where it fell off. I just couldn't bear to flush it down the toilet. I know, I'm clearly certifiable LOL.
This sort of reminds me of those "chain letters" you get when you're young. I remember my Dad not letting me respond to them, and waiting to be "struck down". To be clear, I know my DS2 meant well, and never imagined I'd be overthinking things like I am!

It sounds like a good decision, debthaven. So the person who finds it needs it - and you've set the table for them.

Oh debthaven, I am just picturing this whole situation play out in my head and I can't stop giggling. I think you did the right thing. It wouldn't serve anyone else being flushed into the abyss of the sewer! I can't wait to hear how DS2 responds to your story.

This weekend (updated)
- mark 22 MSc papers/Sun
Unfortunately DS2 cancelled dinner tonight (it's pouring and he's on a scooter). I'll wait till I see him to tell him the story.
All caught up on marking for now (I'll get more on Wed).

Didn't get much accomplished yesterday since DD and the kids showed up early in the morning and stayed most of the day. I was expecting them early as I had promised to babysit while she took the dog (47 lbs) to the vet. It would be too much to expect DD to wrangle a toddler, a baby, and dog who gets freaked out by the vet by herself. I wasn't expecting them to stay all day but DD and DSIL were going hunting that evening. They hunt up on the DSIL's parents farm so those grandparents watch the kids. I guess they had also planned on leaving earlier and going and helping Daddy harvest butternut squash but it was pouring rain yesterday and DSIL said don't bring the kids out it is just wet and muddy. Yesterday I got the sheets changed on the bed and one load of laundry done. Today will be a busy day plus I am supposed to go over to Mom's around 3pm and watch TV with her. She was checking yesterday if I would be over.

It's been raining steadily all day, since 6. We really need it. I'm glad yesterday I mowed the lawn closely, seeded the bare spots and cleaned the mower ready to put away for the winter. We're getting more rain every two days or so. With luck that will be enough to get the grass seed going. The parts of the lawn that were not sodded are looking very shabby.
Put a couple of iPhones up on eBay. They were my DD's and now she's upgraded. They should sell. Apple stuff always goes.
Now I absolutely must vacuum but I'm having trouble convincing myself. My mind wanders to what to make for dinner, should I run a couple of errands, Franklin the Dog needs brushing, how to tackle decluttering the basement and now-spare bedroom. I should get some onions and carrots to make chicken soup.
Organizing my life needs a boost.

Didn't get nearly as much accomplished as I had hoped but my work clothes are clean for the week and I made a big pot of pork stew so lunches are covered for the week. Actually the next three days worth of lunches are completely made and the pork stew is portioned out for the remaining two days.

My afternoon just got taken up by a volleyball match. My team hasn't won a conference match yet this season and they were playing a ranked team on the road. I figured it would be a quick 0-3 loss. This team shocked me with how well they played for 5 sets. During the match, the teams were never more than 3 points apart. You have to win by 2 and all 5 sets were won by 2 points. Instead of the usual 90 minutes to 2 hours, it took over 3 hours to play the match and they lost. They played so well. There were so many career bests and they came so close to beating a ranked team on the road. The emotion of the match wore me out.

I made it back unscathed. There were some white knuckle moments on I76 while I was driving in a lane with no shoulder--the concrete berm was ON the line--and big rigs were passing me. Those 15 ft Uhauls are quite wide. But I made it to Indy on Thursday, unloaded on Friday, binge watched the Hallmark channel at the hotel on Saturday, and flew back to DE today. After so many hours of the Hallmark channel, I have a great set of unrealistic expectations for living in a small town. I know there will be a festival and everyone will be attractive. If there's any snow, it will fall very prettily and won't make the roads a mess. Oh, and there will be some handsome fella who owns a wine vineyard or a ranch whom I befriend and fight falling in love with. I saw it on TV. Totally real, right? Tomorrow will have a to-do of just getting everything together in order to pack it into the car and taking care of change of address and anything else that needs to be done in town.

Small towns seem to celebrate the smallest things to make up for being small. Where I'll be living they have a festival called "Black Dirt Days" because they have awesome dirt. No joke.

I think the town where you are going is bigger than my town. We have one festival. It's the first weekend of August. It's called Town and Country Days but it's mostly about drinking.
In the last 5 years, 4 teenagers who were drinking got on a ATV and were hit by a drunk driver on gravel roads. All 4 teenagers were killed. It was not legal for the teenagers to be on an ATV and the driver of the car is serving many years in prison.
This year, a drunk adult got in to an accident while driving an ATV and his passenger fell off. Passenger was also drunk. Passenger ended up with serious head injuries and sent to Iowa City by helicopter. Both charged with public intoxication.
Reality is that everyone who attends the evening festivities could be charged with public intoxication.

Definitely too small for me to stay indefinitely.

My town is about 2000, if you count the new subdivisions that were just annexed to the city.
I wasn't sure I would like it. There are many things I like about small town living.

DH started cleaning out the office. It is a hot mess because we have a bunch of stuff in there from the kitchen. He made good progress - it is looking better. Mowed the grass. Did a bunch of laundry including blankets yesterday. Made it to the pumpkin patch Saturday (another beautiful day) and got a bunch of pumpkins. DS#2 decorated outside for Halloween. He realized I wasn't going to get around to it so he asked if he could. Spiders and webs. He did a great job. Finished painting the kitchen. Did some touch ups in the living room, then need to finish paint in there. Putting list together to order all the new trim. Hoping to finish tonight so it can be delivered on Friday. Replacement kitchen cabinets are being delivered Friday.
