Satire from The Borowitz Report Trump Sends National Guard to His Accountant’s Office
By Andy Borowitz NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—In what some experts are calling an unprecedented use of military force, Donald J. Trump on Tuesday ordered four thousand National Guard troops to protect the midtown Manhattan offices of his accountant. According to those familiar with the National Guard’s deployment, the troops will secure the corridors and elevator banks in the vicinity of the accounting firm that prepares Trump’s taxes. The troops, whose mission is being called “Operation Safe Returns,” are expected to arrive on Wednesday, after making the two-thousand-mile journey from the Mexican border. I heard a Republican say this yesterday on CNN, President Trump is venting, nothing is happening with Robert Mueller, he stays. Cause President Trump knows that to fire Robert Mueller is suicide on his presidency.
He's just venting, oh that's so cute.

huh. looks like he might have a problem. And no, i don't want to hear about attorney client privilege. You can't use your attorney to violate the law.

Campaign finance.
I was hoping for laundering or something like that. Campaign finance is too hard for many of his lamer supporters to understand.

I heard one talking head mention taxi medallions??
I know those are expensive and hard to get, is there some scam Trump or Cohen was running with those?

So Bannon has weighed in on what he thinks Trump should do - refuse to testify, refuse to let his admin people testify, declare retroactive executive privilege, make Mueller give back all the previous testimony from Trump's campaign people, and fire Rosenstein, which will clear the way to fire Mueller.
In other words, build a moat around the WH, line up the cannons and barricade the gates, and kill anyone who doesn't know the secret password.
Glad that fat fuck is gone, and apparently Trump still goes nuts whenever anyone mentions his name, so hopefully, Trump will listen to less ridiculous advisors.

The value for them has plummeted due to ridesharing, depending on when Cohen bought he could be really hurting financially:
"By June 2013, when medallion prices peaked, each one was estimated to be worth $1.05 million. (Two medallions were sold for $1 million each in 2011.) According to New York Times' Upshot, the value of the medallions quadrupled in the decade leading up to 2013."
"Early this year, two medallions sold for less than $200,000 each."

Interesting article on the medallions, but I guess we don't know yet why investigators are interested in them. Sounds like they were bought as investments. Obviously, there's a lot going on we don't know yet....

Or are they just investigating Cohen for any and every potential violation they've heard about to try to get leverage against him? Or just figure if they're going to be rooting around looking for his dealings with Trump, they might as well see what else they can find?
I'm not sure how these warrants work, obviously. I had assumed they had to stick to a particular area (e.g., Trump interactions). Maybe not.

I'm not sure what was in the warrant, but the investigation of Cohen seems to be about his financial dealings rather than merely the Trump-connected payoffs. That would make the unpaid taxes and the fraud charges against his associate relevant. It is also possible that they can use anything they find to come up with other charges, but I am not certain. Remember that the raid on Cohen's office resulted from Mueller finding something not necessarily or exclusively relevant to his own investigation, so he handed it off to another agency. There should be some latitude there.

Well, if they're now looking at financial skullduggery, no wonder Trump is pissed.
I wonder if that means they're looking at his 'Trump charity' e.g., personal slush fund.

Yep. If Cohen has been Trump's "fixer" for years, there could be an awful lot buried there. Get out the shovels, boys. Lots to dig for.

From Time Magazine's next issue: Donald Trump Relied on Michael Cohen to Weather the Storm. Now The President Is On His OwnAs the sun was setting on the evening of April 9, President Donald Trump gathered the Vice President, senior military leaders and his newly minted National Security Adviser around the long wooden table in the Cabinet Room to discuss one of the gravest decisions any Commander in Chief can make: whether to use military force against a foreign threat. The Syrian government had allegedly used chemical weapons on a town near Damascus, killing at least 40 innocent civilians, violating international law and crossing a strategic red line Trump himself had drawn nearly a year earlier. But the President had something else on his mind. “So I just heard that they broke into the office of one of my personal attorneys,” he said, unprompted, after reporters were ushered into the room. “Here we are talking about Syria,” Trump groused, “and I have this witch hunt constantly going on.” His generals looking on stiffly, Trump launched into a jaw-dropping diatribe against the nation’s highest law-enforcement officers–all appointees of his–and the FBI for its raids earlier in the day of his lawyer’s home, office and hotel room. Trump called the searches “disgraceful” and “an attack on our country.” Complete article here: Donald Trump Relied on Michael Cohen to Weather the Storm. Now The President Is On His Own

Maybe if we keep him in turmoil about if they might find his skeletons, he won't have time to mess up a bunch of other crap.

Now The President Is On His OwnI think it's interesting that Trump is adopting the royal 'we' now - as it 'an attack on our country' rather than just 'an attack on me.'
This is not at all an attack on our country ('our' as in 'all Americans') this is messy democracy at it's best. Trump is not a king, and our constitution was set up to prevent people from attempting to behave like a king, which means we get to investigate our leaders if we suspect illegal acts, and the press gets to write about the investigation.
Unfortunate for Trump, but good for our country.

i think they are looking for an association between the AH tape and the Wikileaks . I think that all ties in with their investigation of how Cohen tried to suppress negative stories about Trump, both through the Access Hollywood tape and the link between the National Enquirer and how they may have helped Cohen keep Trump's various sexual partners quiet - for instance, buying the rights to but not publishing the women's stories. Apparently that might violate campaign finance laws.

Trump can't stay focused on anything but himself. I saw blank looks at the people at the table as he began talking about Mueller when they were there to talk response to the Syrian crisis. I saw a report on other presidents who were being investigated who were able to separate that from running the country. Clinton was one. Trump continues to prove he can't handle the job. He should fire himself.

Some jokester friend of mine (or maybe my Republican brother ) signed me up for the RNC email list last year. I haven't unsubscribed because I find the subject lines so amusing. The last few days especially so. April 10. Subject line "They're not after me" Let me be clear. Since Day One, this witch hunt has never been about me. Their target is you. The swamp doesn’t want you to take your country back, and they will fight to the bitter end to stop you. (then a request for donations) April 11: "Witch hunt." Same message text. Haven't gotten one yet today...

I may be mistaken, but isn't the definition of a witch hunt when they actually don't find anything - like the serial congressional committees that searched relentlessly for a jail able offense on all the various Benghazi! hearings?
I don't think you can still call it a 'witch hunt' when multiple people have already been indicted and a few plead guilty.
So, like in Princess Bride - I don't think that word means what Trump thinks it means....

I'm also wondering how many voters are still falling for the 'it's not me, it's you the voter that they're against, because they don't want me to drain the swamp' line.
Are there still may people who believe that Trump is the brillo that's going to scour all the crud off the wheels of democracy, or have most of us voters detected the eau de bullshit coming from Trump's cronies shoving their way in to get some pork at the public trough?
