The photo doesn’t show it well, but I used re-bar for the deck spindles, it was much cheaper than the pre-made ones you can buy. I really like how it turned out. Cool. I've seen stainless steal sailboat cables used like that. Did you paint them? Don't they come with rust on them?

Oh, what a cute house for your dad! I think that is a great way to keep your parent close and comfortable, while still providing independence.
And I feel like a failure because I don't have an indoor pool

What could be done is to spray them with a coat of clear sealer if you want to keep from getting rust on your hands/cloths.

Did I miss pictures of the inside? What a cute place, sounds like it will work well for your dad. Me, I'm to independent to do so, but good for those that need it. I need to get some new inside photos now that he’s moved in. I think the only ones I have were taken during construction.

That's what I was referring to. Every time I work with re-bar my hands get messy.

I never really showed you my dads place in relation to mine, so here it is.

Tractor, the little home for your father is beautiful. It's small and functional - something he can keep pretty easily. The surroundings are peaceful and natural and you're right there if he needs you. It's obvious you love him very much. I look forward to seeing some inside photos if he doesn't mind sharing his abode with a bunch of curious internet dwellers.

Here’s some inside photos. The main thing we have left is the floor in the main room. I apologize in advance for the decorating, my dad has limited taste 🙂, but it’s what makes him comfortable.

That is so cute! I couldn’t stand to have so few kitchen cabinets, but whatever works for himis good.

For a single guy who barely cooks and has only a minimal amount of pots/pans/dishes, they work out fine. In fact, a couple of them are full of tools because he didn’t know what else to put in them 🙂. It doesn’t stand out, but one of the things on the counter is a 1/4 sized dishwasher. It’s the cutest thing ever, washes 4-6 plates, cups and silverware at a time. Hooks right into the faucet.

I thought that was a dishwasher, but I was fascinated by the short fridge. It looks awesome, inside and out!

Some day we will have to get him a real fridge, but as long as it works, we don’t have to spend extra $$.

You are a good son. Awesome way to take care of your father and enable him to have independence and dignity.
