I want to hear about the sauna. Don't tell me that you built an indoor pool without throwing a sauna in there somewhere. Sadly, yes. Although it’s on the wish list.

Just another update photo, contractor finished to porch work today. I’m taking tomorrow off work to finish the roof and a few other things while the weather is “nice”

I love the pool and house awesome.
However, now you made me feel old, will be 72 and I'm sure not ready for downsizing and moving in with anyone.
I don't know when we will be ready for that, not soon I hope.

I don't know when we will be ready for that, not soon I hope. I think as long as you are still married, you can last longer. My dad is all alone, which makes him an ideal candidate to move in with us, he’s doesn’t need care (yet), but he does need to know that someone will be around, or coming home at night, to keep him motivated. I hope to not have to even move in with my kids, but if for some reason I was alone (widowed?), I could see the benefit, I hate to be by myself all the time.

The secret to being a widow(er) is to move forward. You can’t continue your life as you want it to be after your spouse dies. It’s time to put the past where it belongs and start building a new life. And in my opinion (age 73) and a widow for 2 years that automatically doesn’t involve moving in with kids.
i have a support group of close to 20-25 widows and none of us have depended on our kids to fill our lives. We are independent and determined to stay that way. If something needs done we call a professional, not our son or SIL.
We take trips, volunteer at church and the VA. Take classes in whatever interests us, buy our cars, sell old house & build a new one. We’re like the Farmers Inzurance commercials....we've done it and seen it it all. We take care of our financial life, make sure taxes are filed and paid.
We also don’t need a man in our lives to make us complete. and just because we are over 70 it doesn’t make us old. We are as old as we decide to be.
my opinions are mine and not necessarily that of everyone else....YMMV.

I do NOT intend to live with son and wife, I would lose my mind. I trust son with my finances but not DIL, I think our money and DD's would be gone quick
She says we need to move in later, NO, NO, NO!
Of course this says I will live last, hubs could easily outlive me with my issues and him none. However, with his history in the family of alzheimers I worry about him.
I hope to go to assisted living or the apartments they have adjacent to the assisted living facility before I have to go there. Right now $1500 a month. If I lose it all with hubs SS and VA, can only get it if less then $80k assets would be fine.
If I'm mentally gone it won't matter anyway, the facilities will take it all. To bad we aren't rich enough to keep from losing the savings we worked so hard over like the super wealthy.
But sounds like good family dynamics and its a beautiful place. Hope he enjoys the pool too!

How do you insulate it? Will you have to cover up all the logs on the inside?

How do you insulate it? Will you have to cover up all the logs on the inside? In short, no. The logs themselves provide the insulation. We will still need to put insulation above the ceiling, but other than that it should be good to go, that’s one advantage of using whole logs. When it’s all done he should be able to heat it with a candle, although he bought a very nice gas fireplace/stove to keep it in the 80-degree range he prefers.

A couple quick update photos. We have been working on the landscaping as the inside is now done with only a few more things to finish up on the outside.

The photo doesn’t show it well, but I used re-bar for the deck spindles, it was much cheaper than the pre-made ones you can buy. I really like how it turned out.

Did I miss pictures of the inside? What a cute place, sounds like it will work well
for your dad. Me, I'm to independent to do so, but good for those that need it.
