I bet I'm pure. My husband did take a test - he is pure. Maybe we should jump on this bandwagon. We have benefited greatly from being white - Why stop now?

I would like to take a DNA test. I would bet a lot of money on the results being mostly northern european with a smattering of Native American. I'm not quite Whitey McWhiterson, I tan too well for that.

because of Pangaea (when all the continents were fused together), no one is truly pure.

those eyes though.... I saw the show where the guy found out he was part black. Right before the white guy found out he was part black, the woman laughing who believed she was 100 percent black found out she was part white.

if you are a black person whose family has been in the US for several generations, you are part white - that's basically a given.

those eyes though.... By the way about the white guy, Craig Cobb: he's the guy who was buying up all the available property in Leith, North Dakota to create an all white town. The folks living in the town were quite uncomfortable with his activity. Craig Cobb

I am awaiting the results of my 23 and Me DNA test. I'm hoping for some Neanderthal ancestry. I think that would be cool. There is supposedly Native American ancestry on my mother's side, and my great grandfather bore an uncanny resemblance to Sitting Bull (though is father was supposedly Cherokee, not Lakota), so it will be interesting to see if that is actually the case.
I expect to learn that I am mostly northern European, but it will be fun to see what turns up. Who knows; I might get a surprise that gives me a whole new identity.

I want to take one. I am pretty sure from my Dad's side I am all Eastern European, but may be some surprises from my Mom's side.
I would like DH to take one. His family has a lot of stories, including great-grandmother "stolen from the reservation". Just wondering.....

I'd like to take one too. I did look up some old census data and found that my relatives were living in the north and were working before the legal end of slavery.

I am very interested in doing a DNA test. Like MT, I am casper, but I don't necessarily think that means anything.

My brother used to tease me and call me an albino, if that gives you any indication. I don't even try to tan any more, though I can if I'm outside in the sun a lot. I'm probably 100% Eastern European, though I could see a possibility of a little Asian sneaking in there. I'd be interested if the test were free, but I don't expect anything interesting being found, so not interested in paying for it.

And have revealed some family secrets like unknown siblings/half siblings that were given up for adoption or your dad fathering unknown children. Awkward!

My friend had his done through ancestry.com and it told him about any others in the U.S. that matched his DNA.

Seven or eight years ago, I had some guy call me out of the blue and tell me he was like a 6th or 7th cousin once removed of mine through our maternal sides. He found all this out through Ancestry.com. I was able to help him fill in some blanks as it related to my mother and aunt (sisters), their husbands, and their children (me and others).

Reason #147 to be honest with the kids about using a sperm donor to conceive! (Which thankfully we have been. We started the conversation about half siblings this weekend).

Woman in 60s found very unexpected results. After years of research, found out her dad and another baby were switched at birth in hospital.

A little unrelated, my cousin was adopted. She's now 50 with grown children but has never told them. I'm sure they know from hearing things at family functions over 30+ years. I argued with her years ago that it was unfair to not tell them. She's a wonderful person, intelligent, a teacher, but she has always had a complex problem.

Not 100% sure, but when my brother did my parent's DNA test I think family members that we now know and that he suspected through his genealogy research showed up in a list of suggested relatives. A woman who he suspected was mom's half sister agreed to take a DNA test and it was definitive that at 70 years old, my mom found 6 half-siblings she never knew existed. They have all visited one another and it has all been pretty cool.

I found out my mother had a half-brother when I was in my early thirties. He was the son of my mother's father from his first marriage. My grandmother hated the fact she was her husband's second wife (I guess she found out after they got married) and made my mother and aunt swear they would never mention the half-brother's name. My mom eventually traveled to where ever her half-brother lived to meet him and his family.

The half sisters she grew up with had stick straight hair and so did my grandmother. Once my brother's genealogy research was completed, and DNA tests confirmed, he managed to get copies of my mom's natural father's military records and photos. Lo and behold, he has a head of very curly hair. None of us kids got that curly hair though.

It seems to run in the maternal side of my family. Both my mom and her half-brother died from Alzheimer's as did another ancestor of theirs. I hope not.
