How do terrorists benefit from the passage of the Patriot Act? It is not what they gained but what we lost. I agree it was our loss, but it certainly doesn't mean the PA was their objective. Now... do I think they're shedding any tears that we now have to pee in a cup and jettison our mouthwash in order to fly from New York to Dallas? No. If I were in their position, I'd see the PA both as an impediment to overcome and an opportunity to convince as many people as I could that the American government is a brutal, war-minded regime with increasingly little respect for the rights and freedoms of its citizens--which unfortunately happens to be true. ... the Manchester concert bombing comes to mind. ... "Mass bombing"? A bombing with mass casualties. It's accepted terminology.

I have trouble picturing ISIS leaders looking to Proudhon for ideas on how to best extirpate the infidel, but to end this standoff I will admit it's not theoretically impossible that they arrived at the same conclusions and opted for terrorism as a result.

Actually......the chanting of "we are not afraid" to someone who wants to invoke "terror" is quite effective. Its the resolute message that we will not be defeated by your actions.
I lived through a time where the IRA were blowing people up all over the place. You just got used to it...It never stopped me doing anything.....they ran out of dictionary descriptors for all the attacks.
These nut jobs can never win ...their evil ideology will never be accepted. They will always be irrelevant, fringe... murderous fanatics. and the quicker they realise that...the better.
