Tangent - but here is what I have never understood...what is wrong with Jews? (Per white supremists?) Is it that they are sort of mid-eastern? They were all over Europe and seem quite European, but I guess their roots are all Isreali. I know that Hitler blamed the loss of WW 1 on them - but not sure what that was based on. And I'm not sure how that translates to some guy in Des Moines. Is it because they had money? I've just never gotten the problem. And - do white supremists still hate Catholics? Where does that come from? From what I've been able to tell, the Jews were often white collar professionals with some money, and a lot of them worked in banking/finance. The average German had nothing. Hitler made the funny looking guys with the money the scapegoats. I don't get the whole Catholic thing. I guess they arent "real Christians?" I think it has to do with the pope in Rome, allegiance outside the country.

The reason I was given was that they prayed to Mary instead of God.

I know very little about Catholicism. In first grade I attended an after school catechism (is that what it was called?) with a friend. I lied about my whereabouts to my mother because I'd have gotten spanked had she known the truth. A couple of years ago I attended a Catholic funeral. I was surprised that it was not very different from what I was used to.... LOL

My friend went to a reception of some sort and a unknown woman walked over and introduced herself to her. Right off the bat, the woman asked my friend what church she attended. My frind told her the name of the local Catholic church she joined. The woman replied to my friend, "Oh. You're not a Christian." Pissed my friend off. Southern Baptist is big here.

I was a baptized Catholic and did 12 years of Catholic schools before 'escaping'. I never quite understood why non Catholic denominations considered 'us' not Christian. We were instructed that the Catholic Church was the one and only 'true' church of Jesus Christ founded on His rock, St. Peter. All others split for a variety of reasons and are, of course, unrepentant sinners doomed to Hell.

If you see a nazi, you make another choice. Hmmm.... Nazis eat steak. I better stop eating steak. Nazis eat hamburgers. I better stop eating hamburgers. Nazis drive Fords, Dodges and Chevys... I can do the "don't drive a Ford" thing. I hate Fords (they suck)... but Dodges and Chevys? I like Dodges and Chevy's. Why do I have to give them up because Nazis drive them? Nazis are walking down the street in the same direction I am. We are not "together" and I am not "with them", we just happen to have a similar route of travel... why should I not go to my intended destination? There's a flaw in "Because a Nazi... no one else should..." Big difference between having a steak the same night a Nazi does vs. holding a torch next to him at a rally. Depends... is it a dark night and the power is out? Illumination might come in handy. The point (that you missed) was: Just because one person/group does something, it doesn't make that THING bad or ugly or mean. It's the people using it for a badness or ugliness or meanness that are bad or ugly or mean.

What church do you attend?" Pisses me off so much that I've changed my answer to freak them out even more. Instead of making a polite excuse or flat out lying about it, now I say "I don't believe in organized religion, so I talk to God on my own schedule". Smile and watch them scurry away. Nosey old biddies.

Ay-yup I once got into an argument with a cousin who insisted that "Catholics are not Christian". I pointed out that Catholics were, in fact, the first Christians. We had to agree to disagree. I avoid religion and politics when visiting relatives...

Nosey old biddies. That is their "polite" way of finding out whether you are a "Christian" or not. When sis lived in Salt Lake City, the first thing people wanted to know was whether or not she was Mormon. When they found out she wasn't, she was frozen out. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Thank goodness where I live it is not considered especially awful to be an agnostic...

I grew up in Houston, so I thought I grew up in the South. lol Just didn't realize it was a bubble compared to the rest of the South until we moved to Georgia. Good grief the knuckle draggers here! I had never had anyone ask me about religion until here. It's amazing to watch them very much turn me into a demon in their minds when they find out I don't go to church. You can see it in their faces & then they go away (best part of it). It does make volunteering in my dinky little red town difficult at times. I now try to sign up late so they can pass my name over until the other sinner in town gets stuck with me. she & I have a great time. lol

The Jehovah's Witnesses no longer will come to my door after all the times I invited them in to discuss why they had forsaken Jesus by not being Catholic, the one, true church of Jesus Christ.

I scared our Jehovah's Witnesses off before they even made it up the driveway. I'm in a cul de sac, so I saw them making the rounds. It was a day when the windows were open because it was nice outside. so I cranked up the stereo...with Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue. They held a little conference at the end of my driveway & then skipped my house. LOL

Better than how I handled them. I was in the shower and DD opened the front door even though she wasn't supposed to and I heard voices and came out with a towel wrapped around me. I yelled at them for coming into a house let in by a 4 year old then after they scampered away I yelled at DD enough to make her cry . Then her dad got home and she got it again.

My mom tried that and it didn't make them go away, they came more often! I told her I think you just issued them a challenge. They get bonus points if they convert a Catholic.

That speech was terrible. And ROFL "dry hate" Calling it a speech is generous. Word salad with rant dressing. One of our reps said "it will go down in history as the worst speech a president ever delivered." I doubt it, but that made me giggle.

Book of Mormon song about Salt Lake City: "I'll bet the people are open minded And don't care who you've been And all I hope is that when I find it I'm able to fit in" That is the best show.
