It's been horrible. He tried to get into the bathtub with me last night. He finally settled for laying right by it with his head rested on the edge of the tub. He looked like he was hyperventilating. Trying to get him outside to potty now is an hour-long struggle. Now he's digging and scratching at himself. My mom came over and he was very grouchy with her. Usually, she has a hard time keeping him out of her lap - he loves her. He didn't want her to pet him...nothing. I don't know if my guy will ever be the same again. The only high point is that he is eating - smaller meals during the day (nothing at night) and keeping it down.
Thank you for asking about him.

Had enough. Called the police about a homeowner around the corner. Same homeowner two years ago who had a 2 1/2 hour show in his front yard. Most were rockets with big-ass explosions. I really have to wonder what his next door neighbors think of him. We had one of those in the neighborhood too. Lit off what I swear were actual artillery shells. I kept hoping he would blow his house up. Almost give my parents pug a heart attack, mine cowered in the closet. We were a block away from these people and could feel the vibrations. If I had been living next door to these people I would have been seriously tempted to "stand my ground". This is the first time in over a decade fireworks have been legal in Iowa. I told my mom this may be the last. I don't mind the colorful "pop pop" type sky fireworks they aren't that loud but JFC you don't need to light off crap that makes it sound like we're living in the middle east. Till midnight no less!

I feel like starting a class-action lawsuit against my county for not enforcing the ban on fireworks. But for every police officer in the city and county there are probably 30 idiots setting off the big-assed bomb rockets. There is only so much the police can do. A few arrests and stiff penalties (week in jail?) could somewhat reduce the law breakers. And the local TV stations don't help. Their news reporters do stories on where to buy fireworks without mentioning fireworks are illegal in our county.

Those professional artillery shells should be illegal within city limits. The ones that sound like they were stolen from Offut should also be illegal within city limits.
I would not be surprised if that happens next year.
When they were illegal people still shot off fireworks but they were not as obnoxious because the "big boom booms" would get you a fine. You shouldn't be able to light off stuff that sounds like you just knocked your house off it's foundation when you have close neighbors.

I hope but doubt the legislature reconsiders fireworks being legal. I had 6 straight nights of fireworks with last night by far the worst. It sounded like a war zone here also and my poor cat. I hope there is not a repeat next year.

I take it the sudden noises bother cats also? I didn't think anything bothered cats! Depends on the cat. The fireworks started on Friday night and went day and night - but by far the night of the 4th was the longest, loudest, constant booming and popping (started around 8:30pm and was still going at 12:30pm). My "feral housecat" has been spending a lot of time under the furniture (day and night). My ordinary "sweet" housecat was much more clingy in the evenings (while the loudest barrages were happening.)
I do feel bad for the Veterans, dogs, and cats (and other people or pets) who have to suffer thru what seems to be days of endless "popping, whistling, with occasional BOOMS". It's during the day and night here.
FWIW: I sometimes wonder which of the noises are gun fire.

If I were in a different part of my city, I would not be able to tell the different (between fireworks and gunshots) too. Some of these folks here were so crazed to set off their fireworks they where setting them off while we were in the middle of a thunderstorm.

I'm so glad the fireworks are, for the most part, over. My bedroom is the "storm cellar" for the cats. Big noises result in cats running for under my king-sized bed. Now, however, I'm nursing my late mother's old cat who isn't feeling at all well. She's an old cat (probably 20+) so there's no way of knowing if she'll come through this, or if it's her time to head for the Rainbow Bridge. Right now, she's still eating a little, drinking water, and using her litter box. She's just sleeping all the time and noticeably weak. I'm giving her Pepcid for her stomach to help her with her appetite but that's about all I'll do unless I see evidence more is needed. She panics if she has to go to the vet and I'm not about to put her through that unless I absolutely have to. Anyway, the result is this room being closed off to the other cats. They had to survive under one of the smaller beds in another bedroom. <sigh>

The only firework show I got to watch was the bar a few thousand feet away from my office last night. Only disturbing thing about it was they thought it was a good idea to do this only a few thousand feet away from tanks of flammable liquid that would have made a big BOOM!!! if one of those things went astray. (I work for a propane company and there is another one next door to us with tanks as well!)

Stupid people. It began Friday and last night was the worst so far. Some dumba&& shot one the really loud bombs at 3 a.m. this morning. My poor puppies were practically sitting on the whole night. The cat must have been scared to, as she was right there with them. Normally she can't stand to be in the same room with them.

This is the first year fireworks were legal in our state. Individual cities/counties can set their own rules, but not all that many have since they have no real idea how people are going to act (some larger cities did, but small towns I think are struggling to analyze the issue and get something out quickly). Turns out, for the past month or so, there are groups just lighting them off until the nightly deadline (10pm). They could start on June 1 and they pretty much did. The entire police blotter in the paper is just full of people calling in complaining about them, and the cops saying "nothing we can do, what they're doing is legal".
I'm going to assume most small towns will start mirroring the larger cities, which allow for sales on June 1, but restrict setting them off to July 4 and New Year's Eve. We don't need fireworks going off every night for 2 months out of the year.

I had to close up all my windows the stink was so bad and the noise from the drunks was bad. I'm sorry. I'll try to keep it down next year.

Thing 2 said Macy seemed not to like the fireworks too. Jackson was unphased.

Surprise thunderstorm and wind last night delayed the fireworks. I did not hear them. Next fireworks allowed will be New Years Eve.

I wish this 14-year-old was my neighbor's kid. Karma. 14-year-old's fireworks run destroys parents' SUVA 14-year-old in Washington state took his parents' SUV to buy fireworks on the Fourth of July without their permission which resulted in the vehicle being torched by a Roman candle, police say. CBS affiliate KIRO-TV reports the boy from Skyway, Washington, commandeered the vehicle on Tuesday. The King County Sheriff's Office said the boy and two friends began firing Roman candles at each other and one of the projectiles went through the window of the SUV, setting it ablaze. No one was hurt in the blaze and the parents don't plan to press charges, KIRO reports. Firefighters said the incident could have been much worse. 14-year-old's fireworks run destroys parents' SUV

I take it the sudden noises bother cats also? I didn't think anything bothered cats! My cat is very bothered by thunderstorms and fireworks. Not all of the cats I have had were afraid of these things but this one definitely is. Fireworks don't stop being sold until July 8 and can be sold again December 10 through January 3. Fireworks can be set off from 9 AM until either 10 PM or 11 PM except for New Year's Eve when the time is 12:30 AM. Since I live in a small town, they pushed through an ordinance adopting the state rules. Voted to not have 2nd and 3rd readings. I am hoping this town will change it's rules by next year. Maybe it was the newness, but I am so tired of fireworks and I know my cat is also.

Annnddd, they're starting again. I like fireworks, but the ones that really bang are what bother me. I'm always afraid of them landing on my roof and starting a fire.

Last night was the quietest in a decade and I don't know why. Usually it's a war zone. Police are MIA due to small numbers vs. bigger crimes. I only heard a couple of small firecrackers (or small caliber rounds ). We were pet-sitting the pup and cats next door so I was glad it wasn't too bad in the 'hood.

Macy is an unknown, to some extent. same as with my two. just watching the way he has to warm up to certain men that he has met since coming to my house, I think I don't really want to know all of what he lived through his first year. he's home now, and he's not going anywhere.
