Zib and Tenn: I have tons of places that are dark. He'll take to a place like that for all of about 60 seconds and then he's on the pacing prowl again.
I'm just hoping he'll get used to it. Dogs can get used to the sound of gun shots if they are exposed to it enough so maybe it will work the same way with fireworks.

Does anyone pleeeeeease have any suggestions for scared dogs? I've tried everything. He has a kennel he loves - but it doesn't help. He has a thunder coat. The vet even prescribed a mild sedative. This poor dog gets so upset he drools, pukes, paces - wrecks my house trying to get under stuff. I just don't know what else to do for him. I hate this so much. His little heart goes a mile a minute. He hasn't eaten anything for 3 days that he hasn't puked up. There is nothing wrong with him other than terror because he doesn't understand. A firecracker goes off and he goes completely insane. Cuddling doesn't help. He wants nothing other than to "get away". GEL-have you thought about keeping a closet open and dark with maybe his favorite blanket (or whatever is his favorite item he seeks solace with). If it's your clothes closet, the clothes may help muffle the sound. And something on the first floor. Don't wait until evening when the fireworks start-check it out now and introduce him to it. He does seem to like my bed very much. In the past, he's not been allowed on it, but in the last few days, I've allowed it because it does calm him for a few minutes.
He's probably pulling a fast one on me to get me to feel sorry for him and relax the restrictions.

Lucy goes to the basement and hides behind the toilet until she thinks it is safe to come out. She also isn't eating normally.
Our small town doesn't have a celebration. Several towns and the largest city do. Most are tonight. I am hoping people will be attending those tonight and not using fireworks at home.
In my area, 3 garages have started on fire due to improperly stored fireworks and a mother and her 4 week old daughter were injured when fireworks malfunctioned. Yes, it was a great idea to legalize fireworks.
Just saw a kitten on the local newspaper who had been injured by fireworks. Kitten was left to die but somebody found her.

Macy is begging for food. Jackson is chewing a bone. The fireworks are going off outside.

My neighbor is "that guy". We're having another annual block party tomorrow & he bought, I shit you not, $1,700 worth of fireworks. My hubby was with him when he bought them all. If I was that neighbors wife, I'd have killed him right then & there. But we'll have a ring side seat for a ridiculous neighborhood fireworks show. Our town had their big fireworks show on Saturday. My hubby is under strict orders this year. No alcohol other than beer, no helping light fireworks, no standing in the yards, and when I come out to get him he has to come in 1st time (I gave him 3 times last year). We will NOT be having a repeat of last years face plant in the street.

I would hope for rain in the coming evenings but it just postpones the inevitable. People must set off their fireworks.

Stinky dog has face under pillow. At least he's stopped shaking and panting. Ugh. Maybe he's dead?

We will NOT be having a repeat of last years face plant in the street. He survived for the most part. Every so often his jaw will ache really bad for a couple of days, usually when he's been stressed at work & from clenching his jaw. He has some permanent numbness along the left side of his jaw down to his bottom lip. Every so often, he dribbles because of it. lol And it changed the shape of his face. He's all chipmunk cheeks/jaw now. And his shoulder will bother him if he's doing too much at a time. He learned the hard way he can't trim all the trees/hedges in the yard in 1 day anymore. He has to spread it out over a weekend. I forgot about that! Did he make a complete recovery with no lasting effects? Did you get the hot doctor's phone number for me?

Oreo is content to hide under the bed until they stop. I have two different long boxes under the bed with a space in between them. She will get between those boxes and hide. That is also her hiding place when DD and SIL bring their dog over.

Fireworks didn't last as late here last night so Lucy was able to come to bed during the news.
The two largest organized fireworks celebrations were last night, so I am wondering what tonight brings.

Saving the worst for another night.

And if you do get a repeat, we want evidence in photos! Not quiet here at this point. Fireworks going off all day and all the surrounding towns do their organized thing at about 9 p.m. So we may just go outside, stand on the driveway and watch all around us. Fireworks of a different kind earlier today: www.wptv.com/news/region-st-lucie-county/fort-pierce/car-crashes-into-building-fire-reported-at-fort-pierce-apartments"Fort Pierce police say a man drove his car into his ex-girlfriend's apartment, killing himself and displacing 18 people. St. Lucie County fire fighters say the car burst into flames following the crash in the 400 block of Palm Ave. Neighbors say the car was packed with propane tanks. Police believe the man and woman got into an argument and a result, crashed into the building intentionally...."
Cannot imagine a more horrible way to kill yourself and attempt to take out others with you. Cannot understand why a disagreement with someone would lead to someone doing this.

I knew a guy who flew his twin engine plane into his former girlfriend's family home to get revenge after she dumped him. House burnt down and he died. No one else was injured.

Cat was hiding in my bathroom but decided under my sheets was better. Thankfully the dog is home with his parents so they can comfort him.

DAMN, here they are shooting off so many fireworks across the street in the park that home owners went out screaming at the fireworks group because the homeowners pets were all frazzled.
SHIT what a damn screaming mess.
Oh I hear the fireworks group, booze and beer is involved.

I'm rural, but you'd never know from all the stuff going off tonight.
I have 5 outdoor only cats, 4 of them were nervously pacing on the back deck & one is hiding some place.
I think it has finally ended here, it's 10:50 pm., it better have quit.

Had enough. Called the police about a homeowner around the corner. Same homeowner two years ago who had a 2 1/2 hour show in his front yard. Most were rockets with big-ass explosions. I really have to wonder what his next door neighbors think of him.
