I thought she looked good.
She's applying for a eyewear sales job, not a CPA.

The hair is weird as well as tights and rolled up sleeves. I don't know what they expect but not that apparently. People dress worse for interviews than when I was young. A full suit was expected then now a nice dress or even slacks and a blouse are acceptable, she was a bit more casual than most for interviewing. Step two seems to be trying to work on the floor of the business and she wasn't dressed for that, maybe covering tattoos would have been enough or not wearing black tights and rolled up sleeves.

She might fit in better with a less professional job. She's more of a free spirit. Not a good fit.

The interviewer was an idiot. She looked fine. Apparently, the company agreed and apologized to her.
Some people get all squirrely about the weirdest things.
Tattoos and piercings are galloping into the mainstream. It's not like she had neck or face tattoos or gauges in her nose or cheeks. And what was she supposed to wear that would be more conservative, a burka? She's a young person applying for a job selling fashion eyewear, not a middle aged candidate to be the Queen's personal assistant. A little fashion quirkiness should be considered desirable.

It mentions in the article that she already told them she is willing to remove all piercing and cover her tattoos while at work. All this was discussed BEFORE the in person interview. My guess is whoever did the in person interview was not told about the initial discussion and made his/her own judgements. They do make clear/nude colored studs for things like your nose that she also could have worn. I know people who do that when they perform on stage because the lights will reflect off metal. I've seen people that look like her working in glasses stores and it doesn't seem to be hurting their business any.

I went to Boots Opticians website and browsed. Based on what I saw, and she should have seen prior to the interview, I would say she dressed inappropriately.

I think she looked fine. A little edgy but she was covered up with a blouse, her legs covered.

She's applying to the equivalent of a CVS that has an optical department (like Walmart). She was dressed fine.
Hell, half the staff I've seen in Boots looked crappier, and they were in the Boots uniform.

she also said she included a picture with her resume, so they knew that she had some non-traditional aspects to her style. sounds like the interviewer was too conservative, IMHO.

I thought she looked adorable. Image policing needs to go the way of the dodo bird.

I thought for that type of job she was fine as well. Her 'rolled up sleeves' may be that way by design of the shirt vs she rolled them up.
These days, tats are so common place that I don't really think much about them. If I saw a bank president/ hot shot lawyer/ whomever in shirt sleeves with tats, I wouldn't think any less of them. People should be allowed to express their individuality. Doesn't have anything to do with how they do their job, after all.

I had no issue with her outfit, but think her hair looks horrific.
I don't mind shaved hairdos, I just think her hairdo is terrible.

I can't judge. That type of attire and look would have got you escorted out when I worked at my firm. I'm now in manufacturing and it isn't as conservative but that look would still be out of place. I would probably be offlit by it. I hire for professional positions and would expect the person to dress and look professional. I don't know how I would feel if I worked in retail. I imagine my professional upbringing wouldn't just die...so I would probably not hire her

Yes, I think we all know you're for whatever keeps the "little man/woman" down. That's an unfair statement. I don't want to keep anyone down. But if the dress code is "x" you don't come dressed as "y". I come from a professional background that is quite conservative. I would have a hard time getting past her look. To me, a candidate should come dressed appropriately for a professional environment.

And my thought is that she had already seen what people generally wore there and that she wasn't out of line with that.

Reilly has a non-traditional shaved hairstyle (from your link)

Her outfit was cute if she was 12 and In school. The rest of her? Well, it's London. She certainly will fit in somewhere, probably a trendy retail shop.

Looks like Boots Opticians allows Muslim women to wear their hijab at work. Doesn't seem to be a problem. Good for them.
