No. I don't care what they're dressed like as long as they do what they can or what I need done.

yesterday was one of those days when I had 0 fucks to give. I did not have court and had 2 office appointments.
I wore jeans and a hoodie.
Would you walk out if your attorney was dressed that way for a day at the office? Nope. All that matters is if he/she can get the charges dropped or keep me from the death penalty. Don't really care how they're dressed. A conservative suit and tie is no guarantee that the person will represent me to the best of his abilities. When I went to the airfield yesterday, we got a tour of the control tower. One air traffic controller had hair down to his ass and tattoos. He's been there the longest, and apparently is very good at his job. You never would have guessed his employment if you ran into him on the street. Just keep me safe. I don't care if you come to work naked.

Doesnt matter whether you care. If the person who owns the business cares, that is up to them.

1. Dark shell- coat, pants / skirt 2. Light shirt / blouse 3. BLACK belt and shoes 4. No jewelry besides a watch / wedding band. You can argue with me, and you will find a LOT of exceptions to my rules these days, but you need to know you're rolling the dice.

I don't disagree with that, however I guess if I was the interviewer she looked ok to me.

She looked cute but immature.

The hair and piercings I get. However, the actual outfit wasn't conservative enough? What? IT WAS almost TOO conservative in my honest opinion. =P It seems like the actual big heads agree that her outfit was not too conservative and honestly sounds like the person hiring was just judgmental because of what I presume is the hair and piercings. Honestly, all of this would have been fine if the person didn't feel the need to comment on her dress. It could have been as simple as telling them they found someone new, or sitting through an interview if they didn't then just denying the job later. They didn't need to make her feel bad about her outfit and then nothing negative would have come from this. It would have just been another job someone else got and they didn't even need to give an explanation just that they found someone else. Simple. That's how most job rejections I've had were.
For the job she was applying for honestly... if they have younger clients which I'm assuming they do she'd totally connect awesome with them. Her style is VERY much in with people in their 20s and that's pretty common for the area she is in. People her age would like to get "tips" from her rather than someone that doesn't have the "hip hair and piercings" if that's not their style their not going to trust the person with the old ladies haircut telling them that looks good on them... I never do >.> or the old man.
When I get a haircut, or I'm dressing up, or getting new glasses I ask someone my age that has a style that meshes with mine because if it's someone too conservative with their hair, and their clothing I'm going to be like "man, you just like my momma, ya gonna give me old lady or old man tips."
It was in their right not to hire but at the same time their was absolutely no need to say it was because of how she dressed or her hair. It could have been as simple as "We found someone else" boom. done. But, for the job they were hiring for I think it's bonkers because she certainly would have made a lot of younger folks more comfortable than a person too conservative helping them pick out new glasses.
My therapist always wears jeans to our sessions as well and it makes me a lot more comfortable as well when someone is in jeans because I automatically feel like they're more laid-back and easier to talk to, friendlier, less 'stiff' when I had a therapist that wore a suit all the time I didn't feel as comfortable, like I couldn't open up with them. Honestly, I tend to trust people better when they're not always conservative dressed... I prefer them to be more laid-back in dressed and I'll always be the type of person to choose the person in jeans over the person that dresses super conservative. It makes me connect with them better and not feel so uncomfortable because often I feel like everything has to be super professional when someone is dressed super conservatively and I'm not much for that kind of talk.

I agree with the premise they should have kept their mouth shut. I suppose they thought they were doing her a favor. No good deed goes unpunished. Never more true than in this instance.

This probably gets to the heart of the issue - what type of customer is Boots Optical targeting and what does that customer feel comfy with? From the picture of the Boots Optical staff that was posted earlier in the thread, it looks like the dress is more what I'd not-so-politically-correctly call "dorky" business casual - polo type shirts (which are almost universally unflattering on women IMHO) or simple button down shirts and khakis paired with minimal makeup, minimal jewelry and simple/conservative hairstyles. Not sure exactly what the target age/audience for that is, but it's a very different target age/audience than what the applicant in the OP's style was geared for.

If she didn't have enough sense to remove her piercings or cover tattoos on the interview, I can pretty much guarantee you that she'll be doing the same once she has the job. Nobody wants to hire a troublemaker.
