I like getting my hair washed. But I've been going to the same girl since college and at her salon the stylists do the washing. If it was a fancier place with shampoo people, I might think differently. I do generally dislike people touching me for pedicures and other stuff.

Haircut every 6 weeks (a trim, really) is $50. I have long, curly, layered hair, so it's a little harder to manage. No issue with the price - heck, I am not able to do it myself, so I am happy to have an expert deal with it. Aw, Chiver, you and I are in the same boat. I stopped caving in to coloring about 15 years ago, when I started swimming competitively. I know the current haircolor brands out there hold up to chlorine quite well these days; I just did not want to be bothered.

I'm 63 and don't color my hair. There is a little grey, but not enough to matter. My grandmother was barely grey in her 80s.
I generally spend $20 to get my hair cut at Great Expectations plus tip. I do it when I can no longer style it the way I like.
I was going to get my hair cut when I broke my arm. One of the first things I did while I was recovering was get it cut. The stylist talked me out of my usual layers, saying that it would be too hard to style with one hand, She said come back and get layers when my arm healed.
I cannot wait. I just don't like hair that is all one length. It doesn't suit me although it IS easy to style.

I get my hair cut every 10 weeks or so. It cost about $35 with tip. I spend the same on my DD (who is 4), but she has this crazy hair that is big looping curls, but still hasn't filled in on the sides. So, she needs a little help and I don't trust the cheaper places to get her her hair. Now she has bonded with her hair stylist and would hate to go to someone else.

I get a few haircuts per year at around $20 + tip. Occasionally, I get highlights. I think that may run around $60 including tip? Its' so seldom lately, that I forget. I might get highlights a couple times/year any more. They seemed to be drying out my hair too much. I color myself--should be every month, but I try to stretch it to save my hair. It's about $10/box. I have lots of gray now--started getting the first few in my late teens. My hair used to be gorgeous, just wash and go. I didn't really have to do anything special and it was smooth, shiny, etc. Now, I struggle with frizz. I find a product I really like that is a reasonable cost, only to have it discontinued on me. This just happened with my shampoo. Found a new conditioner that is about $6/bottle that seems to work decent. That lasts me about a month, I think.

I pay $40 (plus tip, so $50) for a layered trim. You can get it done more cheaply around here, but my stylist works well with curly hair and I have been very underwhelmed every time I've gone to Great Clips or similar. I need to get DD a haircut. I am OK with cutting hair on my own, but hers flummoxes me. All her hair from her crown forward grows straight forward and is about 8" long... meanwhile everything between the crown and the nape of her neck is still only 2-3" long. Her hair is curly but very fine and doesn't stay in a ponytail well. I think she will end up with nice-looking hair eventually, but I have no more idea what to do with her than my (ultra straight-haired) mom knew what to do with me.

I've gotten a haircut every two weeks for the last 24 years...using the same set of clippers I bought myself in 1993.
So to answer your question: $0 (plus the cost of the clippers which was probably less than $20).

Last time I got my hair cut and colored was last May before my cousins wedding. Otherwise I dye it myself when the stuff in on sale for $3 a box. Probably get it cut once a year and color it myself a handful of times. Under $100 per year easy. Except last year it was like $200 because of being in the wedding.

My salon is NOT a fancy salon, it's a very local suburban one. The "shampoo girl" is either the apprentice (they get a new apprentice every 2 years. She also cuts hair, but I use the owner) or the owner's sister, who is the salon's "estheticienne" (don't know the word in Eng) ... she does the manicures, pedicures, waxing, make-up, etc.
The "shampoo guy" is the owner's and estheticienne's brother. He's actually a chef, but he sometimes helps out on his days off.
I really like them all, and it's a family business, and it's literally around the corner. So I try to keep my "quirks" out of it (except for the head massages, no can do ...)

Ugh, thanks to YM I reminded myself to get my haircut. I'm trying to come up with my own style, one that looks professional but is still convenient enough so I can jump into any crisis situations at work. I've got the clothes down: name-brand washable clothes, but from the thrift store so if they get ruined I won't cry.
I don't have any gray that I can see. My complaint is that my hair always grows out a shade darker in the winter, so the look starts to bother me.
This time I let myself get talked into partial highlights, to brighten my look and blend the lighter hair with the winter shade. I also got several inches taken off and some texturizing done. It does look really nice and I feel so much more put together.
Total cost for partial highlights and toner, hair cut, blowout and tip... $185. That will be it for a long while. VHCOLA. I typically go to a local hair school for a cut, $15 includes tip. It's fine for a basic cut. But I was craving a more professional look, especially since I'm in the market for a new job.

Ha! Just did the math and hubs spends more on hair cuts annually than I do! He goes every four weeks while I am eight weeks. I spend more on products, tools, and accessories. Obviously.

I was paying one time and a guy checking out at the same time was blabbering about my $160 cut and color. This was as he paid for his weekly $20 eyebrow wax. Yeah he paid more than me to the salon, I just spent mine in bigger chunks.

Cut and highlight is $125 with tip, about every 9 weeks. This is a REALLY good price for my location and my hair. I have very thick curly hair so it typically takes extra product and time to highlight it. Most places cost me around $300 but I found a great stylist about 30 minutes away that is extremely reasonable. I have been going to her for about 2 years now. She was recommended by a friend.
On a side note, I absolutely hate my natural color (mousy brown). I have been highlighting my hair since I was 14 years old.

Yes because every girl wants to hear their hair looks like dirty dishwater. I started dying it 5 years ago. I started with red and then last year I decided I want to be blond. I'll be sticking with blond for awhile. Gwen wants me to dye my hair blue. I had friends who did wild colors in high school, they warned me it destroys your hair and is a pain to maintain the color washes out really fast. I've thought about getting my tips dyed this summer. If I don't like it or it ends up damaged I can have them cut it off.

It's probably easier to do the ends while it's blonde. I think the damage probably comes from the bleach to strip out your original color before putting the color on.

If I don't like it or it ends up damaged I can have them cut it off. In my late 20's I veered from the highlighting and had red hair for about 2 years. The only thing I didn't like about it was how fast the red seemed to fade. It would look absolutely fabulous for about 3 weeks and then the color would start to look extremely dull. I eventually went back to just highlighting. Blond seems to stay "fresh" looking a lot longer. I have toyed with the idea of getting a couple of hot pink stripes in my hair (just for fun) but I think work would probably frown upon it.

Aveda makes a line called Madder Root that helps the red stay. I've used it when I've done red.

I was pretty strict about washing my hair when it was red. I only washed it 2x a week and used dry shampoo in-between. That made the color last longer. When I did wash I'd also use a tinted rinse by John Frieda to keep the color shiny. I'm finding blond doesn't seem to stay fresh as long. It may also have to do with my hair has been bipolar since I had the kids. I am going thru another Professor Snape phase and that affects the color, especially if I wash more frequently to try to combat the grease. I also decided to try L-Oreal's new clay shampoo. It's supposed to strip roots of all the excess oil but not frizz the rest of your hair and last for 48 hours. We'll see if it works.
