...at a salon? I generally go to hair cuttery twice a year for a total of $40 annually. Sometimes I think I should be better than hair cuttery, so I asked to tag along with my co-worker for a consult with her stylist. He wanted to cut, color and highlight my hair. I asked how long that would take and he said 3 hours. Feeling on the spot, I made an appointment. The next day, I asked my coworker to estimate how much it would cost. Drum roll... probably $300 after tip. I cancelled the appointment. I don't have that kind of time and that is a lot of money. She sees him every 6 weeks and her hair does look fabulous.

Cut, color, and pedicure while I wait for the color. That's a great price! If it had been 150 or less, I probably would have kept the appointment.

I'm sure it would be $150 anywhere else.

Cut/color/style runs me about $70 and I usually tip 20%. I only get it colored once or twice a year.
Cut/style is about $20.

I get 3-4 haircuts/year at $50 each. I color my own hair, and it costs about $6 every 5 weeks or so. So about $260-300/year.

I spend $50 or so every 4 - 5 weeks for a haircut. The haircut is $45 and I tip another $5. I used to spend about $100 every month or so when I colored my hair, but I've developed an allergy to the ingredients in the dye, so now let it go natural.
I'm a redhead, so my hair is growing in white around my face and neck hairline. I hate it, but have gotten lots of compliments on it. My hair is still almost red at the crown even though I'm almost 70.

I just got a foil (highlights), cut and style - $140 includes tip. I haven't been to the salon since September. I was way overdue. I'm hoping to go more often. Next visit will just be to touch up the roots, no cut or foil required.

Well, before I completely ruined my hair, back in a day when I was young and single, I spent about $150 every 6 months or so. Cut, colored, did some highlights.
I wouldn't blink an eye on spending $300 if I could get my hair looking like it was 20 yrs ago. I do cringe at a time factor, bc salons don't make me relax, they make me very cranky.
So....recap:
20s - I spent time and money on my looks - don't regret it 30s - didn't spend hardly anything - regret a little bit now - am starting to spend some money - OK with it.
Of course all of this falls under I could /can afford it category.

I try to stretch my color/cut to every 8 weeks. It runs between $130 and $160 which includes tip. The price difference is if I'm getting highlights or not. My hair stylists is amazing and I love the way my hair looks b/t cuts so it's worth it to me.

$35 for a hair cut every 8-12 weeks at JCP. I dye my hair myself so that's $8-$10 every 8 weeks.
If I am trying a color for the first time I get it done at the salon. When I started going blond I went to the salon and spent the money to make sure it was done right and I didn't cause my hair to fall out.
I ask a lot of questions while there and over time I take over dying my hair myself. Vidal Sassoon has an awesome red that I got tons of compliments on. Right now I am using Garnier Fructis in Light Blond.
I used to go to the beauty school but I don't have the time for that anymore, they are only open during work hours. I paid attention to the teachers and now I can walk into any salon and tell them exactly what I want. Apparently my problem was not picking bad stylists but not knowing what I wanted and being aggressive enough to get it.

Color, cut and style every 6-8 weeks.
Costs me $120-$125 each time with tip.
I feel so much better when I like my hairstyle.

I get mine cut every 2 months ($40), and cut and colored every 4 months ($70). But I'm super impatient so I HATE sitting around and having it colored. Total $330/year.
But I really need to do it a bit more often. I've recently decided that once things get a bit better financially, I'm going to start getting it cut every six weeks (instead of 2 months) and colored every 3 months (instead of 4 months). That will cost more like $500/year.

May 2015 I bought a Wahl Hair cutting kit for $17.14 on Amazon.
Now DW just gives me a buzz cut every month. $0.

I spend $63 every two months for a cut, including tip. I don't color my hair because- phew!- my natural color is fantastic.

$160 twice a year for cut and colour. I've been going grey since I was 20 so I touch up the roots myself once a month.

$200 including tip for cut, color and styled. I try to go every three months. Sometimes I end up only getting there 3x/year versus the 4 I try for.

I would love it if I never had to cut and color my hair. But I am not willing to go the shave plus wig route....
Cut $20 every 6 weeks or so. I have very thick and wavy hair, if it goes to long without a cut it gets very think and unmanageable.
I do color myself at home, probably every 8 weeks. I only do it to cover gray and try to get it to my natural, brown color. I started getting gray in dark brown hair when I was 25, so I have been doing it for many years.

I get a cut 2-3 times a year. I don't know, $20 each? Last year they talked me into some kind of treatment that was like $60. I about died when they told me the price, but I was willing to try it. Should have just stuck the money in a slot machine the amount of good it did me.
My kids go more often. Maybe every 2 months for them.

If I would have gone through with it, I know I would have felt like I had just put cash through a paper shredder. It does not matter how awesome I looked. My coworker tried to convince me it wasn't that much. But come on.

When my hair turns grey, I will increase my hair budget and time commitment to stay looking younger. Until then, I am staying low maintenance and low budget.

I get my hair colored every 4 weeks and I get it cut every other time. $50 for the color and an additional $25 when it is cut. I tip 20%, so $60 for color and $90 when I get it cut.
My daughter has long hair. I have a note that I pay $110 when the beautician has done it for her. Usually she is bleaching or foiling it and it is more b/c of the longer hair. She doesn't go there that often, She did have it Ombre look, but she just went brunette (she did it herself).
ETA. I used to do my own hair, and sometimes my DH would help me, but I invariably would have sections that were left out, or I left sections on too long b/c it is harder to manage on your own. When the beautician does it they start at your roots, process for a period of time then work it through the ends, let it process some more and wash it out. I didn't feel that I was managing that process to well, and I felt my hair was needlessly damaged as a result.

I get my hair cut 4 times a year...which runs $200.
I don't get my hair colored. Mostly because I'd never keep it up. DH got me a spa gift certificate for Christmas in 2015 that I have yet to use.
I do spend more money on hair products though. I use lots of hair thickening products, which tend to be pricey. Last year I dropped almost $600 at Ulta on hair products.

$22 (including tip) at Hair Cuttery every 6 to 8 weeks or so. I have found a stylist who can give me the short (really short) do I want and make it look really good, so I'm not messing with something that isn't broken.
I could afford to pay a fancy salon for the full scope of lavish attention, but I do not fit the fancy salon's preconceived ideas of who their clientele should be and what they should look like, so the few times I have attempted to try something new from their "professional stylists," it has been clear to me that they would rather not have my dumpy, unattractive self dimming the glory of their fancy salon, so I continue to patronize the Hair Cuttery where they seem happy to see me and treat me like a valued customer.
I periodically have the urge to get my hair colored something creative like purple or maybe one of the more interesting henna shades, but the notion soon passes, and I continue with my natural mottled mud brown and grey, which may not be trendy but it's mine.
It would seem that I have reached the point in life where comfort and convenience trump beauty and style (neither of which I possess, anyway), and I'm happy with the more reasonably priced and more good-natured attentions to be had at the Hair Cuttery.

I color my own hair four or five times per year; L'Oréal is usually on sale for 2/$10 so it cost $20-25. I have short hair and have it cut every 5-6 weeks so that cost is around $260/year. Total is $285 for the year.

I spend $60 every 7 weeks or so for color and a hair cut. My "natural" hair is currently in an unattractive state of sort of brown sort of gray... At some point in the future when it's more gray than "brown" I'll probably go back to not coloring my hair. I'm all for "less is more".
