I'm looking at the news right now and Sessions faces accusations of being in contact with the Russian embassedor while part of the dt campaign during the elections. He failed to disclose this during the confirmation hearings.
Does the country need someone like this as its AG? Can we trust someone with this kind of baggage? Should he step down?

Had he disclosed it during the confirmation hearings I don't think this in itself is much of a problem. Why on earth didn't he.....

Could be a very good reason not to mention it. After all, Sessions was the chosen golden boy for attorney general, and therefore, head of the Justice department which would control any and all investigations of the president and his election crew's activities

Either Sessions had contact with the Russians during the election ir he didn't. Under oath, he said he didn't. So either he committed perjury about treason or he didn't. At the very least, he is incapable of leading a genuine investigation into Trump's Russian connections and should recuse himself.

The top lawyer in the country (AG) saying he didn't lie under oath. He talked to Russia during the campaign as a senator and not as a member of Trump's team, so no reason to disclose that. If he wasn't afraid of the truth he would have answered the question with an explanation.

It's just the latest in the democrat witch hunt against the Trump administration.
The discussions were reportedly in regards to his position as a member of the senate armed services committee, not in regards to Trump campaign.
I know it doesn't matter, the democrats have already determined he's guilty of some heinous crime even though we don't know the facts, because, you know, Trump is evil and we're mad we lost the election.
Even though I highly doubt there was any wrongdoing, it'd probably be best for him to recuse himself of any investigation or prosecution in regards to Russia. If nothing else, just for the optics of it.

All he had to do here was add but in my role as x I twice met with x. instead he says his role in the campaign and said he didn't have communications with any Russians. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot for no reason. SEN. AL FRANKEN: "If there was any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this (2016) campaign, what would you do?," the Minnesota Democrat asked. SESSIONS: "I'm not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians." www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/03/02/politics/russia-jeff-sessions-confirmation-hearing/index.html

If I was Trump I would be pissed Sessions created a scandal where there wasn't one.

20 of the 26 members of the Armed Services Committee responded to the question of whether they had talked to the Russian Ambassador last year. They said no.

And since when do senators talk directly to foreign governments? Doesn't that go through the state department?

Had he disclosed it during the confirmation hearings I don't think this in itself is much of a problem. Why on earth didn't he..... The same reason Bill Clinton lied under oath? Maybe Sessions felt it was insignificant enough that it would be overlooked anyway - so why even mention it?
Wasn't it the "lie under oath" that was Bill's actual downfall? Not his indiscretion/infidelity. If he hadn't lied about it - things might have been different - it might just have been a 'scandal' and ended there.

At least you can pretend to parse a difference between getting a blow job and having sex.
"Talking to Russians" is pretty straightforward. Unless they meant sex. I don't care if he had sex with the Russians.

taking it into an unexpected direction. Everyone has a reason to lie. For Bill, it was either to save face or perhaps more gallantly, save Hillary pain. Lying about talking to Russians? What was he hiding? Why Hide? If he had stated I have spoken to X a few times regarding Y in my capacity as <insert here reasonable role>. The fact that he did not, makes one think it was quite shady...

In the non-political realm isn't this the same thing that did Paula Deen in? She was asked if she had EVER said the "n" word under oath and then someone dug under a rock and found out that decades ago she did use it and therefore lied?
