$109 per ticket for UPPER level??!??
Even though I think that is pricey, I would probably be willing to do it if that was the TOTAL price, but I am sure there are FEES (Ticketmaster) up the ying yang....and then pay for parking, food, T-shirt........forget about it........these dudes are not in their "prime" either..
Or am I just cheap?

Nope. It's really those fees that are killer. Even if you go in person and get your tickets you're charged a "handling" fee. Ticketmaster is known for being a ripoff of the worst kind. It's not just concerts doing this either. Theaters do it. I picked up my tickets for Wicked. $12.50 each for handing plus a tax on it to boot. Ridiculous.

No kidding not in their prime. Are any of the originals even left? Do you also know that if they cancel the concert, all those fees you paid don't get refunded.

The price was outrageous.

James Hetfield, Lars, one member was killed in a bus accident not long after joining the band think his name was Cliff - to lazy to google right now. Think they are the only originals left.
But I would go see them - yep little ole senior citizen loves Metallica.
As for price, I expect to pay that for most concerts nowadays so no biggie on this end. I want to see a concert money isn't going to get in the way.

Just went to Ticketmaster to check tour dates. I have the option of 5 hours to Atlanta (or get a cheap flight and make a 1 hour trip by air) or 8 hr drive to Houston. Geeze I wish you hadn't started this thread.

3 of the 4 guys have been in it since 1983 I think. And you're right, the first bass player was killed in 86'. He was on their first three albums.

I have tickets to the opening concert in Baltimore at the Ravens stadium. We got club level tickets. $169/each after Ticketmaster fees. I keep looking for them to sell parking passes to the club PSLs so I can get in the good lot. Still waiting on that. At least the ticket came with a free copy of the new album!
Ticketmaster fees are the worst. I swear when we saw Guns N Roses last year the fees added almost $50 per ticket. I prepaid parking at $40. It was $50 cash only at the entrance. T-shirts were $40. I said no thank you.
They could push back on Ticketmaster and their stupid fees if the artist didn't want every dollar they could get. Garth Brooks does it. The service fees add like $6-7 to his tickets. Very reasonable to me.
Concerts can get expensive in a hurry. I really enjoy it and I spent my first 25 years in an area that didn't get many good ones so I'm making up for lost time.

LOL I remember getting all the threats from Metallica. I had only downloaded a few songs on Napster and Enter Sandman was one of them. They went ballistic.

I fucking hated them cuz they were all think of the small bands, the bands just starting out, we're trying to help them out. Stfu Metallica - I was actually at those concerts and they were all saying between concert tickets or merch and cds buy the former cuz we don't make shit off the latter. Pool your money to buy a CD and burn copies for everyone. This was at every damn concert of those new bands. Metallica was just butt hurt because just before Napster happened they inked a record deal that gave them just about the biggest cut of cd sales of any artist. I don't completely hate them, but damn if I didn't realize their song at the grammys was new only after someone said it.

I saw Wicked six or seven years ago when it came to town. My neighbors were treating 48 friends, co-workers, and a good neighbor (me) to see Wicked. We all 48 folks met for dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of the theater. When we were waiting to pay for our meal tabs, it was announced my neighbors paid for everyone's meal too. Good dinner-good show.

Those neighbors have seen Wicked 13-14 times at various venues around the country. They cannot get enough of it.

I used to live in the same town as the author. My kids went to preschool and elementary school and played sports with his kids. That's as close as I've gotten to any Broadway show and/or concert lately.
But once I finish paying college tuition, look out! :-)

Yes to both of your comments. Going to see many of the bands like the Stones, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, ...et al you'll see many in the audience in the 55-75 age range. It's funny as hell but awesome as well....

I guess the real question is what is it worth to you? What do you think it should cost? I think that a lot of effort and planning and people go into a live performance. And, very few artists just stand there and sing and play anymore. They have a lot of special effects, etc. Personally i enjoy live shows and don't mind shelling out for them. I took DD and her friends to see Taylor Swift and we all had a great time. And, I won't sit in the nose bleed section, i shell out for better seats. IF i am going to spend the time and money what's a few more dollars? So, if it isn't worth it to you, then don't go.

Best part was seeing the older crowd partying at the concert. The parking lot was full of people tailgating with red solo cups. ( no alcohol allowed wink wink). Concert was scheduled to start at 8 pm. We were in our seats at 7:45 and a lady right begins us says "when is this thing going to start". Old peoples concert. Started at 8:05 lol.

It's not just concerts doing this either. Theaters do it. I picked up my tickets for Wicked. $12.50 each for handing plus a tax on it to boot. Ridiculous. I don't go see shows at the Orpheium as much as I used to because of this. I got angry when I was charged $15.00 per ticket for a "handling fee" when I called the box office directly and told them I would be picking them up! I asked who the hell is this fee for and it's for "Ticket Omaha" because they print the tickets. WTF?! I am also tired of the super secret exclusive sales that all these places have. Tickets go on sale MONTHS in advance for people in certain membership tiers. All the inexpensive tickets get eaten up and by the time they go on sale to the general public there are two $250+ seats on opposite sides of the theater left. For $250 a piece I'd kinda like to be able to sit next to my husband. I've decided to give my money to the local community theaters instead.

No way am I going for some over the hill group that hasn't had a good song in a while for that price.
If they published a guaranteed set list and if it contained mostly their older songs than MAYBE. but even then it would be a WEAK maybe.

Or am I just cheap? We paid $73 for our upper level Metallica tickets, sadly these days that doesn't seem particularly steep for a huge stadium tour like this. If we can't find a sitter I'll have to sell my ticket and just let my husband and our friend go, but I really want to go! \m/ Now don't get me started on merch prices - when I started going to concerts I could get t-shirts for $10 or $15. Now they're usually $30+.

Liking Metallica was cool before the black album, after which they became like Jock Jams, at least in my high school. All the bros bro-ing out to Metallica and GnR...another band who charges way too much for tickets.
The key is to find younger, lesser known bands who have more reasonable ticket prices for smaller, more intimate venues instead of geriatric arena acts who's rich, aging fan base will pay top dollar to squeeze into their spandex and relive their glory years.

I am going to Duran Duran and if I hadn't promised my friend tickets for her birthday I would have said no way. Yeah I imagine we will all be in our 40's and 50's.
