There will be pictures ? Make the teenager proud!! Of me working out.... ummm no. Of the Mud Run yea I think so when we get there. This is the one that kind of started this whole thing www.raceluraypage.com/ The original goal was to try and find something he could do with his dad to help build that relationship. He got shot down with both of his parents in doing it with him so then he asked if I would do it next year for him. Over all he wants me to lose about 50-60 pounds in 7 to 8 months. Even typing that makes me want to cry. You're a good soul. You can do it just baby steps with the weight loss. Think in 10 lb increments and not the total amount. Mind games help.

It is a lot of weight to lose, and it won't happen with just working out either. I promised him I would do my best and I do mean to do that. I wouldn't commit to an actual amount to lose because I didn't want to make a promise I couldn't keep. But yea I am not going to love it. I had made the comment to him when he first asked that I wasn't sure I was comfortable with this. I was told to get over it, I ask him to do stuff he isn't comfortable with all the time and he does it. You know like volunteer at the state theater where he actually had to interact with people. Kid spent the opening hiding in the stock room the first night, did come out at intermission to bag popcorn for me. Few times later he was taking orders and handling the transactions all on his own. Or write papers yea he really doesn't like doing that.

I did not really achieve great goals in 2016 simply because I didn't make any. However, I did have some success with "one goal a month". Some of the small, good habits rolled into the next month and stayed with me for quite a while.
So, that's my resolve. One goal a month for the next 12 months.
January goal is bring my breakfast to work each day. I spend waaay to much purchasing breakfast and lunch on a daily bases.
Happy New Year !

Sounds a lot like the military Infiltration Course. Lots of mud/water, trenches, barbed wire circles to bump into, crawl around, barricades to climb over, etc. The night version has machine gun tracer bullets flying overhead, a nice "light-show" on a dark night. Hard to stay oriented in the dark to keep moving forward.

Yea I get the parallelism, I have no desire to join the army but I will do this with him.

I need the same 20 pounds off I needed off last year, hope it happens.
Hubs is packing on the weight, I am having less of everything around, he really picked up over Christmas, ate most of that gallon of ice cream by himself, I told him don't bring something like that home.
DD is trying too, she said she doesn't feel good not taking the respiradol, she said she has a lot of trouble controlling her behaviors without it so I will try to help us all.
So what do I do, have biscuits and gravy with bacon for breakfast, poor start.
I hope to travel more, but I still want a garden so that is hard.
Hope my back and foot does better, but overall pretty happy with things as they are. Well continuing to reorganize and declutter is also going to happen all year but that seems to be an ongoing task.

I do actually like going to the gym before work and went several times in November when I joined. Part of the issue was in December I had about a third of my annual and tir-annual IEP meetings to get done. I was having around 4 or 5 meetings a week. For the rest of the year I have like 4 or 5 a month. Add in the fact that the gym I joined is near work, and I live about 45 mins from there I wasn't really motivated on break to drive up there in the morning. Maybe I should start a weight lost thread if there isn't one. But over all I agree that getting healthy is more of a goal than a set amount of weight.

I can't have a goal of 600k retirement savings for next year. Well - I could - but it is beyond my control to make that happen. Instead, what I can do is max my 401k - so that is my goal. Similarly - for health - I focus on inputs and outputs. More fruit, more salad, more exercise. If I wanted to lose weight, I would make specific changes in diet and exercise with that goal of being more healthy, and then see what happened after a month or two. If the weight lose wasn't there, then I'd tweak the inputs/outputs.

I love all the responses so far!
so for 2017, I have decided to set a goal to spend more time worrying about myself. health-wise, financially, all around. I spent most of 2016 living my life in a very reactionary mode, adjusting things in response to how other people's days were going. I'm not doing that anymore. a few of you reached out to me via PM after some rants on that EE thread, with comments reminding me that I have spent a lot of time, money and effort to finally move myself to my home where I wanted to be. I thank all of you that did so, for reminding me that this is MY home and my life, and I need to pay more attention to living it and not worrying about other people and their bad decisions.

I wouldn't do a bloody mud run with my kids either, we do plenty of other things I'm just not doing that. They aren't terrible people just because they won't do that with him.

My goal is to make 2017 the year of 1000 hugs. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I thought it would be fun. Who wants one?

Good for you, chiver! My sister is doing something similar - she has declared that 2017 is about her, as she usually puts everyone else first. It's okay to put yourself first and do things for you!

My goal for 2017 is based solely on events from 2016. My goal is to complete half of the coursework for a masters degree.
Over the course of the past year my job has disintegrated from a comfortable and friendly place into chaos and negativity. Our executive team was replaced and that trickled down the food chain throughout the year. In 2016 we have had well over 100% turnover of people in my position, as most of the old crew have resigned and the new people keep getting hired and then either fired or resign.
Although I am currently being left alone to telecommute in peace, as a precaution I looked around at job openings in my area. There are some interesting ones that require master's degrees, so I enrolled and am starting class this week.

That is exactly where I was 4 years ago when I went back to school. Amazingly - although not perfect - the job situation got much better. Hope you get a good change soon! One way or another.

I am (once again) trying to cut back my Diet Pepsi consumption. I have been unsuccessful in all previous year's attempts, but this year I'm tackling it from an angle that I'm good at...financial. I made "Pop" a line item in YNAB and am only giving myself $20/month and have committed to being honest in recording. $20/month might seem like a lot, but trust me, I don't think that covers half of what I would normally spend. I don't even know. As anal as I am about tracking every dime I would hide that in groceries or fun money, so I don't really know. I wasn't even caring what I spent anymore, if I needed pop I bought it wherever I was. Last night I was out and researched first since I only had $20. It was cheapest at Target, then I was all excited because I found 10% off on Cartwheel and got another 5% with the Red Card. Hopefully this helps me cut down and doesn't just get me to become a "Super Soda Shopper" that can get a van load for $20! I only brought one to work today instead of two. That's something.
