I admit it, I have failed. I got a box from Walmart and was going to come straight home and tape the box.....once that was done my plan was to empty the kitchen drawer that had all the baking equipment in it......The box is still on the floor of the garage (flat) and the baking drawer hasn't even been opened once .

Sweet 16! And, welcome back. I had motivation to go through 2 shelves in my pantry last night. I needed to find my can of unsweetened cocoa to finish a recipe, and had one heck of a time finding it. It doesn't help when the kids & DH just throw things in there...

I took two bags of clothes and a box of gently used shoes out the door and donated.

Malarky, I got rid of most of the plastic Tupperware stuff awhile back. I kept the cake carrier, a steak marinator, and a few things like that. But I kept nothing to microwave in. The ironic part is that when I married 45+ years ago (second marriage now), I got glass "refrigerator containers" as a wedding present. I gave them away, of course, because they were avocado green. The glass containers are cheap, but they all have plastic covers now. Whatever. I've been so busy with DH's health issues that I barely deserve to post here. I did get rid of my collection of Sue Grafton mysteries, A-V. I took them to a used book store, which bought three of them. I donated the rest. I have a thrift store box going in the closet that we add to, but I haven't taken there. My biggie, though, is I got rid of a non-working tv. Unless your town runs a recycling center or day, they are hard to get rid of. My small city doesn't. I could pay BB $25 or figure out another way. Giving it to a thrift store would be wrong since they would probably have to pay for disposal. I put it on the FB trading sites, and an engineer took it. It isn't completely dead. In fact, it would come on at random times like the middle of the night. It is so much easier to get rid of the little stuff than the big stuff. I think my next project will be the Christmas decorations. I don't mean the ornaments. Those have special meaning since a lot were given to me by students, and I labeled the bags with who gave me what. But I have ceramic trees and other stuff life that. We haven't put up a tree in several years. It always requires us moving furniture out, and neither of us feel like doing that these days. Getting older sux.

If you do decide to get rid of a ceramic Christmas tree, I've been looking for one. I don't put up a large tree, but would love to have a ceramic tree.

Saving4Norway, yay! you went to Norway! I hope you had a fantastic time.
moneysquirrel, I bought fabric for my bulletin boards today. We have to go back out of town for the next few days, so putting those up will be my weekend project.
Iggy aka IG, no, for me the colors aren't specific. I use them mostly for entertainment and just to visually separate stuff.
debthaven, I'm glad the house challenges are moving in the right direction. I hope it continues.
Sharon, grandbaby yet?
I'm in such a non-routine it's just crazy. Since school released on June 14, we've been away from our house a total of 28 nights with another one this week. We've been out of the house 35 days. I had grandiose plans for house purging and school preparation. It's only about half done, and I officially go back on the 28th. Sigh. Completely first world whining.

Well...that's how far I made it today. The laundry is taking forever because I'm soaking and doing an extra rinse since there are campfire smells. I'm slowing down now. From my routine lists, I still need to walk the dog plus my entire evening list.

If you do decide to get rid of a ceramic Christmas tree, I've been looking for one. I don't put up a large tree, but would love to have a ceramic tree. Shipping would be cost prohibitive. These things are heavy. I found both of mine at garage sales. They were in the $10 - $20 range. These are handmade by people who took ceramics classes. If you can find one, don't worry about the plastic bulbs. You can get replacements at Michael's.

Some of our neighbors who are snowbirds but have family in the area come back for Christmas and they leave their trees decorated year round. I would if I had a closet big enough to accommodate our 7-foot tree.

My friend A came by yesterday ... the one whose entire house had the same problems. She's been dealing with these issues for two years, so she has become somewhat of an expert. She asked to see our insurance policy, and insists that we are covered. (We have the same insurance company.) So DH is writing back to the insurance company asking them to reconsider/reopen our file. A says that worked for her, and we have nothing to lose, which is true. I'm not holding my breath though. Yesterday (holiday here) DS3 and I cleaned the entire house. I changed the rest of the sheets. All is ready for DS1/DDIL/DGS who arrive later today! They'll be here/with us on and off for 2.5 weeks, including four days together at the beach next week. All of the kids except DS2 will be at the beach rental with us (he'll be away). I can't wait to see that baby!!! Today will be spent grocery shopping and cooking. My ex FIL and ex SIL are coming for dinner too (for the first time in 25+ years), because they haven't seen the baby yet. I'm a little weirded out by that, but only a little. It makes DS1 happy that they're coming.

Crap ... DH was right, the 5K was just one part of the drainage system. Written estimate is 13K for that. Verbal estimate for the resin is 13K. So now at 26K. I'll get more estimates but this is not out of line. Our best friends who moved from our street a few years ago paid 11K to get their rainwater / waste water system separated, and they had nothing broken, and their house has a smaller footprint than ours (although it is much bigger). DH is mailing the insurance letter today. I'm not holding my breath but I am crossing my fingers.

debthaven, so glad you get to see family. Fingers crossed the letter works! And, I think it's you, among others, who uses the word shite pile? If so, I've discovered it's totally fitting. I am pushing to get things wrapped up here at the office before vaycay, and that dang pile just isn't budging!

spent a few days with my sister this weekend (first day back to work today) and managed to sell a couple LLR pieces to her that still had tags on them. and, I talked Hayneedle down on return shipping for a pair of adirondack chairs I had bought a couple weeks ago that were nowhere close to what I expected when I ordered. I started to process the return and got to the screen where it said $47 return shipping and I paused to call in. at first the operator tried to tell me that of course I have to pay return shipping as it's a "preference return" and I politely laid into her. part of my "preference" is to have appropriate materials of construction on a piece of outdoor furniture. the screws used in the seat back were basic metal, unpainted. the item description says "natural finish" but you think I want something that's going to rust? ah, no. she offered to split the shipping with me, so that would cover $47. umm....it's $47 apiece? I may as well just keep the pieces for kindling at that rate. I only paid $68/chair. that's nuts. so she put me on hold for a long time, and said she would see what she could do. when I drop off the boxes at FedEx later, I will be using a pair of paid return labels that will be costing me all of $11, instead of $94. I can live with that.

Iggy aka IG yes Shitepile is my word lol. Just hosted 11 people for dinner (us, all 4 kids, three partners, my ex FIL and ex SIL (the baby's great grandfather and great aunt). It was a wonderful evening. My FIL asked for a tour of the house and told me how happy it made him to see it again. He told me what a great job DH and I did with the kids. It was very moving to spend time with them again. My kids were just thrilled. My ex is a total ass, but his family has always been a class act. FWIW, I told the older kids to invite their dad too. He was supposedly busy. (My ex lives alone in town during the week, I would NOT invite his wife here.) I did clean up as we go, but only when I wasn't taking care of my wonderful grandson.

debthaven it sounds like the dinner party was a big success. Enjoy the time with the kids and give the grandbaby extra snuggles. I only worked a half day today and I got so much stuff done this afternoon. If I could have a few more days that were this productive things would be looking good around here. Today was take care of crap day. 1. Picked up my fire extinguishers from my Dad's. Dad's business provides fire extinguishers for all the family homes and then has them inspected annually. 2. Got my new passport photo taken. 3. Filled out passport renewal form. (I hate, hate, hate to fill out any kind of form)- Come January we will need passports to board a plane because Oregon drivers licenses aren't fed govt. compliant. 4. Boxed up baby sleeper to nephew and wife in England. They recently announced that they are expecting. 5. Went to post office and mailed passport renewal and shipped box to England. Remembered to also buy more stamps. 6. Went to bank and deposited a check and ordered more deposit/withdrawal slips for savings acct. 7. Filed all the paper work for all the new insurance policies I just took out. 8. Shredded paperwork on all the old insurance policies 9. Cleaned my purse 10. Filed old paystubs that were traveling around in my purse. 11. Shredded old paystubs that were older than 18 months. 12. Did other misc. filing 13. Found an envelope to corral receipts on a temporary basis. I usually have a stack of receipts that I want to keep around for a week or so before getting rid of them. 14. Went through temporary receipts and shredded the ones no longer needed 15. Picked up Mom and went to local farm stand. I bought apples to make applesauce this weekend. 16. Went to meat market in another town, Mom asked to go, while there bought chipped beef for chipped beef on toast. A dinner I really enjoy but only make a couple times a year. 17. Updated YNAB No word on baby yet. At yesterday's appointment the doctor had her make 2 more appointments. If baby isn't here after 2nd appointment, they will induce.

debthaven, I'm so sorry your home repairs are getting expensive. <HUGS> Didn't get much accomplished today, except for getting caught up on laundry. Made a few phone calls, filed some paperwork, & realized we've got some big bills coming in, so we're trying to decide whether to do some more home repairs now, or wait a couple of months. Decisions, decisions...

Sold 4 items on ebay; listed 12 more. We'll see. These are steps in the right direction. On a bus right now going from DC to NYC to see DS! Also meeting my sister there; she's coming down from Mass. I'm so happy to be on this break. DH's health issues have held me up for months now. I can't wait. Once I'm home again, then I'll finish: the basement, the dining room and Florida room. All are interrelated - purging basement lets us move items downstairs for use there. I can paint down there or do craft-type things, and DH can work on his photography. I guess the flood in the basement was fortuitous. It spurred this (I hope final) push. Changing daily habits is a huge part of our getting any real progress. I thank Peace Of Mind for that understanding. It's so easy to rebuild piles of shite at every turn. But we're getting much, much better.

You're making such great progress finnime ! Enjoy your weekend in NY. The other resin-injection company is coming this morning to do an estimate for the resin injections. Everybody (including the professionals) tell me they are more expensive.

He wouldn't give us a verbal estimate. We should get his in 10-15 days. He said he suggests two excavation/drain work companies ... one is the co we called (the 13K estimate). The other is the one my friend A recommended. So we still need to call them (the manager is still on vacation). Yesterday the car started acting up. We have to drive 6h this weekend so I took it in. 365e later, it's fixed. We can't seem to catch a financial break.

fingers crossed for a relatively painless process, debt.
this weekend, I've got a tech savvy friend coming down to set up my new home network equipment (purchased via gift card, so I don't have to rent from comcrap anymore) and help troubleshoot the fire stick that got messed up with a recent "tech support" call to comcrap. if we can get all of this up and running this weekend, I will be dumping all of my comcrap equipment back at one of their office locations on Monday morning. I cannot wait!

I refused to pay it and just let it sit there.

That's smart Chive. We are on optical fiber now ... we found the old internet box in the basement and I just cannot reach a human by phone or internet to find out whether I should take in the old box or not. I REALLY don't feel like driving to the mall and spending 2h on line just to find out I should have just either chucked or recycled it. So for now it's in the trunk till the next time I need to go to the mall anyway.
The good news of the day is the garbage men sanitation engineers took all our bulky items from last weekend's basement purge, AND emptied the recycling bin they had refused to empty on Wed. They left a sticker on the bin on Wed saying that something was in it that shouldn't have been, and refused to empty it. So I removed whatever seemed "questionable" to me, put that out for today's "bulky" pick up, but put the recycling bin back out. They took everything today, whew!
Went to the bottle bank today, and am now catching up on laundry.
I still haven't started the embroidery. It makes me feel sad but I am just too stressed and anxious about the house.

A friend of mine shipped a modem to Century Link before it was named Century Link by UPS. She didn't keep track of it's receipt. They say they didn't receive it and she is still paying $5 a month. That was at least 5 years ago.
I own my modem. I refuse to pay Mediacom for that. I am switching to fiber optic. Not sure how that works. I'm told it will be around 2 months before everything is done and I can be done with Mediacom.
