ETA2: DH was able to fix/stabilize those shelves too. So no need to replace them/spend money/go to Ikea. Best of all, no bad surprises in that part of the basement, the part I was particularly worried about!
There's still some Stuff on the floor, but it's all DH's. Part II of the 2017 Basement Clearout means DH has to decide what to get rid of to fit that Stuff back on his shelves. Plus, he'll be bringing more Stuff from his office when his company closes down end of Oct.
I'm very happy to help him, but frankly, I don't really care about that anymore. If there's Stuff on the floor of the basement storage room, there's Stuff on the floor of the basement storage room. I just don't want flooding or a fire hazard down there. But if DH chooses to leave his Stuff on the floor and it floods again (unlikely now but you never know), well, that's his choice.
I'm just relieved that "my" (old) shelves are stable again (they had gotten very wobbly over time), and that there were no bad "surprises" when we moved them further down that wall to access the "problematic" corner of the house.
I DO have too much school stuff from my kids. I need to go through that stuff again. But frankly, that's not going to happen anytime soon.

This weekend
- do far half of basement (Sat/Sun)
- wash DS1's sheets (Sat) - donation bin x 2 (Sun) - bottle bank (Sun) - SA-type place (Sun) - wash DS2's sheets + remake bed (Sun)
Done! I donated 4 bags of clothing, luggage, briefcases, CD cases, various household goods and an old ski rack. DH will list the big bike rack on ebay (it doesn't fit in the car). Our garbage and recycling dumpsters are full, and we have items for the monthly bulky garbage pickup on Friday. DH decided to offer his dad's darkroom equipment to a friend who is picking it up later. I've put nearly everything back on the shelves. There is still a small pile of items I'm hesitating about on DS1's basement bedroom floor. I want to put them away and/or donate them before DS1/DDIL/DGS arrive on Wed, even though they won't be sleeping in the basement anymore because of the baby.

Sharon you must be on baby watch! DD said probably no baby this week, her due date is the 20th. Baby hasn't dropped yet etc. We are really worried about the eclipse, on the 21st, and all of the traffic. The doctor had even told her a couple weeks ago if she was showing signs that baby was almost ready to be born that they would probably induce her so there wouldn't be issues of getting to the hospital. The latest estimates are that 1 million people will be coming to Oregon for eclipse with possibly half of them in our area. We are already starting to see heavier traffic and more out of area license plates.

I have been keeping up with the basics and continuing to go through one area at a time in my quest to get rid on things. I took apart the jigsaw puzzle that I did this summer, bagged it up, back in the now taped box labeled that all pieces are there and placed in the newly started donation box. I realized that I still have several more in unopened boxes so will not be purchasing any new ones to do. debthaven -- Hoping that the estimates come in with the lower numbers. Sharon -- Hoping baby will not come during heavy traffic and/or solar eclipse. Knee Deep in Water Chloe -- my former school have started somewhat already. (Somewhat as the heavy predicted rains/flooding postponed the start of classes.) I miss several things about not being there this year mainly the students and coworkers. I will not miss the duties, meetings, and the tons of things to correct. Retirement means that I can sleep to the late hour of seven instead of five. startsmart -- Have a great vacation. Take time to relax and refresh your spirit. You deserve it. News: I did open my etsy shop this week. Only a few items and I will be adding a few new items over time. PM me if you want to provide me with your impressions. I will sent you the link. This is new to me and any suggestions would be welcome. Just getting started and could use any help I can get.

Wow Sharon! Here's to hoping she delivers a few days before (or after). LOL. And here I am my nerdy self thinking -> drive to the hospital around 3am on the 21st. Baby born at the time of total eclipse! What a start to a life I know, I know... not everyone is as nerdy as I am. Just hoping that when baby comes all will be perfect.

One of the plumbing companies (which we need to do the underground pipe work) called back this morning ... he's coming over IN AN HOUR to do an estimate!
So conceivably we may have an idea of how much that (other) part of the repairs will cost by the end of this morning!
This week
- wash baby seat Mon
- wash baby bouncer Mon
- finish sorting basement pile Mon - donation bin (third trip!) Mon
ETA: BALL PARK about 5K for the excavation/plumbing work. The final estimate will probably be more than that because he found another issue after giving us that figure. But still, both BALL PARK estimates add up to about 18K for now. NOTHING like the 80-100K I was fearing, thank Gd!

My older son is camping with my in-laws for a couple of days and my mom is going to pick up the little one from day care today and keep him overnight. So I will have an entire night to myself! I do plan on sorting and purging as much as I can tonight, but I also want to make time for a movie. I am ridiculously excited for the alone time!

I got stuff out of the house and donated! I haven't really seen a large improvement in my mood yet but I am so glad to get some things gone. There is a large empty area in the living room - Of course I have stuff on the couch and in the dining room but I am hoping to get my TV center gone by the end of the month and move most of Mom's things into the "office".
I spent time with my dad yesterday so not much was done but that is just fine.

busymom and debthaven , excellent job! Fingers crossed, Sharon . Congratulations on your new shop, moneysquirrel ! NastyWoman , LOL! I am so that person, too! WholeLottaNothin , enjoy your blissful alone time. snapdragon , glad you got in some dad time. We were gone camping most of the weekend, but did return home at a decent hour yesterday. I had time to do 5 loads of laundry, unpack, sweep the entire upstairs, put away hand washed dishes from Thursday night, prep a few lunch items, pull several things out of the freezer for dinners, installed Command Hooks and hung necklaces. And I also (finally) put 11 clothing items into the donation bag. There's not yet too much of a difference in the closet, and I can probably part with another dozen items (or 2!), but it did make room to move things around, instead of everything being crammed together. I haven't yet grouped items together since we moved in. I found this works the best for me (all dark to light, from left to right): Work clothes, top rod: Blazers Slacks Skirts Long sleeve shirts Short sleeve shirts No sleeve shirts "Play" clothes, bottom rod: Sweaters/hoodies Skirts Jeans Capris Play shirts are folded and stacked onto a nearby shelf. I also have a small shelf for camping and work out clothing. There's a long shelf with things I fold instead of hang (leather skirt, sequin skirt, Christian Siriano dress). A Rubbermaid container under the capris is full of sweaters for when cold weather gets here. A small shelf holds a few handbags, and my Coach tote gets it's own, LOL. I tossed a few items in the process, including a (gasp!!) wire hanger. Getting there!

[snip] Starting a new list: Put the finished touches on my home office/gym Hang necklaces, unpack the rest of my jewelry-still a small box on the closet floor Do a walkabout around the house with DH to remove screws/nails and spackle holes left by the seller Check the downstairs smoke detectors Figure out if my retro CD changer can be repaired then decide what room to store my CDs Level kitchen table purchased at the vintage store Dust and vacuum Errands: Take the comforter to the dry cleaners before cold weather sets in Take the donation box and clothing already! See belowShop for this weekend's excursion Attend two Chamber functionsI just dropped these off about 15 minutes ago. It feels good to have this off my list and the space in my back seat again. I had a bit of guilt about one piece of clothing in the bag, because it was a gift from someone who said they had a friend knit it for me. I never wore it, and figured someone else might appreciate it, especially since it's cooling down at night. So the guilt has subsided.

The friend I "look after" came back from vacation today. I've missed her but I'm barely able to look after myself these days.
A precision about the excavation/plumbing work. Recent codes says that you need to separate the rainwater and waste water systems before you can sell a(n old) house. Since they'll be digging up the garden anyway, we decided it would be better to get that done at the same time.
The contractor today (who works with the resin company) thinks we should get the resin injected in another very small part of the house too. They charge by linear meter, but he says it's silly not to get that small area done too, since they're coming to do the extension.
So we're expecting the 18K "ball park" estimate to end up between 20-25K. Still a LONG way from 80-100K.
If only we could manage to sell one of the two studios, we'd be OK.
I don't like wishing my life away but hopefully this issue will be over by Christmas.

We send pics but that is not the same by a long shot.

I got some stuff done but not nearly as much as I had wanted. I seem to always overestimate how much ambition I will have after work. It was hard to resist the recliner calling to me. I got two grocery bags of stuff out and donated this morning and went through a bunch of paperwork, which seems endless. Most of it got tossed, which makes me wonder why I kept it in the first place.

Question, and I apologize if I missed the answer: Do the ink colors represent anything in particular? Other than make the page look pretty.

I got to thinking about how much DH has done since we moved into the new house. In addition to unpacking and organizing his Man Cave, several sheds, garage, etc., here's some of what he's done for the house: Bought and installed a room AC unit Repaired the broken drawer in the guest bathroom Helped me hang pictures, check CO2 and smoke alarms Hung outdoor decorative lighting Hooked up the TV and electronics on two floors Helped arrange decorations above the pantry cabinets Hung the wall TV in my gym Replaced the master bathroom toilet tank "insides" so it would stop running Added several hinge door stoppers Replaced the plain screw on the jetted tub door panel with a pretty knob Designed and painted an address sign Posted my Chevy Trucks Parking Only sign for my parking spot Remove a random nail stuck in the trim above the hall closet (why do people do that??) And he built a little outbuilding for our garbage can so we don't have to schlep it up and down the driveway, and so our friendly neighborhood bear stays out if it. It's nice being married to someone almost as OCD as myself, LOL.

My DH gets in cleaning moods a few times a year. I just have to hide the paperwork lest we lose something we will need in the future. Otherwise have at it lol.

Hello!! I have missed you all this summer but now I'm back. (If you're new, I went to the University of Oslo for summer school) I love DH, I love DH, I love DH... but I don't think he did even 10 minutes of house cleaning while I was away. So, I sure could use YOUR help. I have made a short list of 15 things I should do today around the house. None of them are particularly fun so I'm stuck as to where to start. This is where YOUR help is needed. Could you please pick a number between 1 and 15? I'll do that chore next. 1 - Wash face, take meds, brush teeth2 3 - Have breakfast 4 - Stitch up shorts5 6 7 - Collect and sort all the laundry8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 Thank you!!
