ooh, there is a posting at my old company that looks doable. Definitely going to call the HR director on Monday. whaaat? I thought you were so glad to quit that place? Is this a step up? Or is the company looking much better after the new one?

ooh, there is a posting at my old company that looks doable. Definitely going to call the HR director on Monday. whaaat? I thought you were so glad to quit that place? Is this a step up? Or is the company looking much better after the new one? LOL, let me explain a few things that I have learned (I should write a damn book!): 1. "horrible" is relative 2. "shithead boss" is also relative 3. my old company is pretty good - stable, robust infrastructure (which can be annoying to navigate), mostly competent associates, great work/life balance and educational opportunities, company is growing 4. my bosses at the old company are super focused on long-range goals which is why we had lots of friction 5. current company is horrible - poor infrastructure, disorganization, miscommunication, everyone has a crazy workload, planning/forecasting is essentially nonexistent, no one GAF about anyone else 6. I now have shithead boss(es)
the situation w/the newest employee (she wasn't and still isn't doing any work) and the conflicting goals issues was the root of my frustration with my old position. From what I hear, they (old bosses) are still focused on long-range goals at the expense of the present. That is okay I suppose, but I know I don't want to work for them in the future. This new posting is with allocations - not with my old group. It's a different part of the supply chain process where it would be more focused on inventory management and forecasting. Definitely an opportunity to learn more about a different part of supply chain, but it is probably a slight demotion. I wouldn't have to pay tolls to commute, so that's $3k I wouldn't have to budget for, but I'm thinking.... how much $$ would I be willing to give up for reasonable working hours/environment?

MJ, you don't need my advice (but I will offer it anyway). After all, that's what this forum is for.
If you go to work every day thinking "I hate this job, I hate this boss, I hate this commute" you will make things worse for yourself. If you go in with the attitude that this is temporary but necessary to pay the bills, the job will drive you far less crazy.
When you leave this job, try to make it a "pull" situation (leaving for something you really want) rather than a "push" situation (leaving to get the hell out). You don't need a series of short-term jobs on your resume, and job hopping takes a toll on one's psyche as we rotate through a number of sub-par job experiences and disappointments.
Every job, even consulting, has its frustrations. A relative of mine who is a professional artist and does commissions (portraits, etc.) as well as gallery showings would seem to have the most flexible and soul-satisfying job in the world, right? Even he has deadlines and bosses to please. People who commission his work set parameters on the end result and impose deadlines. They are often unreasonable, and this isn't apparent when he agrees to take the job. Gallery owners have to be sold on his work, and a gallery show takes a lot of prep with a set deadline. Once I heard someone comment to him that he was lucky he didn't have a boss. He responded that everyone has a boss, and that is the person who pays you.
Being able to pay the bills counts for a lot, in my book.

I had the "I want more money" conversation on Friday. I pointed out additional expectations and responsibilities that have been given to me since I was hired. I pointed out that I have been bringing in business on referral sources. I stated that I have the capacity to do more marketing in addition to my current role and don't mind doing it. I'd actually enjoy getting out and doing it. My boss said that I made valid points and that we're going to work together to figure out what the best approach would be to present my case to the man holding the checkbook. We may have to figure out a hybrid role for me. I told him I don't care what you call me as long as you pay me. Fingers crossed.

Dear boss and manager,
Please get on the same page.
Boss is saying manager said no due to timing concerns and desire to focus on reporting compliancy.
Manager says she has no money to do this this year.
Frustated, Beth

Got an interview. Not a big deal job, but it's local, and it's something. Maybe got a lead on another thru networking, which is crazy 'cause I'm the most horrible networker. Moved forward in process for local government job, but it's been slow. It was posted over a month ago, and it took weeks just to get forwarded to the hiring manager. We'll see if anything comes of any of these. Recruiters are *chirp chirp*.

Is it really a very bad idea to text your manager and ask if you would get fired or brought up on assault charges if you beat the shit out of a coworker? This jackwad is really finding my last nerve. I know they are building a case for firing him but they aren't moving fast enough!!!!!!!!! If I find his ass in my chair again I'm going to kick him in a few painful places. Of course, that means I would need to wear shoes. Crap. Asshole was in my chair tonight. Sent the text to my manager and he laughed. Told me to email a complaint and he's send it on. AAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible to ask for some of that time off for yourself, or is it too early/late? I need to address it with my boss tomorrow. I have 11 days PTO left, I can use 3 each week (+ 2 day off) and work Saturday - Sunday when my wife is home. Or if he is willing: work double on both days or one of those days this way everyone does not have to sacrifice a day on my behalf. I already arranged the schedule in my head : he would be off Wednesday and Sunday, the other co Friday and Saturday (got to make it worth it for her); my dairy manager covers both Wednesday/Friday (no trucks) and I am there Saturday/Sunday. I can stop in during evenings to tie up some loose ends etc. All he need to do is approve it. So what happened with this ?

When I checked my work email this morning, I had an email from someone in our HR department saying the other state agency I interviewed with last week had requested a copy of my file (performance reviews, background check info, etc). I'll take that as a good sign that I'm still in the running. I haven't heard anything from that job or the county one I interviewed for the week before, but I didn't expect to until this week at the earliest.

He's pretty much made himself the office asshole lately and is probably doing it just to piss me off. And succeeding admirably.

internally laughing because the new person called my boss to ask for clarification on something. Proof that I'm not the only one who doesn't understand his poor-communicating ass.

I got a response back from the recruiter at the local company just now, he said that my resume was passed on to the Engineering Manager, who won't be back in the office til next Monday. so I guess I sit tight. I hope I didn't come across as overly pushy, but that it does refresh memories and notes to bump me to the top of the callback list.

I was just chugging along determined to have a better attitude about this place, and now I'm REALLY annoyed. Boss wanted me to work on this freight analysis report, and also wanted me to give him this specific report on a certain carrier. Okay, fine. I re-formatted the raw data, added it to the current invoices as best I could, and did a pivot table to show what he wanted. That was at around 1. Just now, he emails back and says there are invoices missing from this year (uh, not my fault as I only started working here in June). Then he sends me back a worksheet with invoice data pulled out of a company database. First, why did he never teach me how to do that or anything else in that system for that matter?! It's not exactly intuitive or use-friendly. And second, why the F am I bothering to log invoices if the data can just be extracted systematically?!?!?! I feel like I need to have a CTJ talk with him. I am sick of falling short on my assignments because he is either not explaining himself properly and/or not giving me the information I need or not telling me how to access it.

What is CTJ talk?
sent my results, discussion, and conclusion write up to the advisor......on tenterhooks till I get some feedback on this first draft.
Just don't want to be way off the mark, and have to do a lot of re-analysis of data or alot more extensive reporting of results.
Still need some edit work on lit review (can't recall how much) and a wee bit on methods.
got home at 10 tonight cuz I stayed late to finish and send this....
time keeps getting away from me. wanted to finish over weekend and didn't happen.

It is official, my wife accepted the job offer and gave her current job 1 month notice.

The suspense is killing me! I know it's only been a week but I want to know!
It's not the same type of pressure as when I didn't have a job at all and bills were piling up. It's also not the same feeling I had when trying to get out of BT.
I am just impatient
If I don't get it I will be bummed but it's all right. I will take the time to polish my resume using the manager's advice and apply again when he posts the new positions.

No raise based on the review? I assume the previous mgr who was on your case gave you your review, so you had to know he would kneecap you on it. Any chance you made bonus on store performance, especially in areas you might have control over? If so, I suggest you ask the dm to investigate the situation and rethink the raise issue. Since your former mgr was canned so fast after his transfer there had to be some feeling he was not up to the position he held, which makes his reviews questionable.

And....I got the other state agency job! She said they decided on me right after my interview, but it took a while to get all the paperwork through HR. I already submitted my two-weeks' notice, and I'll start Friday the 1st.

According to the application portal the job is still active so no decisions have been made yet.
Started statistics yesterday. I got the first week's work done and will start on the second week today. I want to try to get ahead as much as I can while we're doing easy stuff.

My wife has been having panic attack about the new job for the past couple of days now.
It goes between having to leave Carly, to not being able to do the job and getting fired, to her not being good at office politics and hating etc. it varies..
Telling her to relax does not seem to be working. She is literally driving herself insane doing this.

Telling a panicking person to relax rarely has the desired effect (unless the desired effect is to agitate them even more) This is probably not psychologist-approved, but have you tried agreeing with her when she goes into these spirals? "You're right, there's no way you can do this job. It's not like they went out of their way to hire you after you told them you didn't want it. They also definitely didn't reassure you that your job was safe for years when you were worried about being fired after funding ran out. Your old employer must have hated you too, that's why they let you work from home after we moved to D.C." (preferably in a very sarcastic voice so she knows you're not being serious) DH has done this to me a few times, and it always pisses me off, but it usually does work to bring me out of whatever self-defeating spiral I've created. I'm very stubborn and can't resist some good reverse psychology. That would definitely piss me off. She went from working from home while balancing the responsibilities of being a new mom, to now having to work longer hours outside the home in a brand new job and not seeing her baby she spent so much time and money trying to conceive. It's a huge adjustment. She needs empathy, understanding and support. Bonus if you give her some congrats on her first week flowers and a pep talk about how smart and capable she is. Good luck!
