If it weren't for Walmart, we wouldn't have treasured memories like this: Myself, I resent that picture. I know many weight hindered people that are magnificent individuals. At least it does not say "Pigs in a blanket, let them fry". And at least she is giving you an advanced warning, which even I would appreciate.

I find the need to "take down Walmart' very bizarre. If you don't like it, don't shop there. DUH! Walmart will survive because people need to shop and buy stuff and they have good prices. I don't want Walmart to go away because it's the only place some can afford to shop. I'd just like to see them return just a little bit in customer service. It used to be decent shopping there until they ran all the little mom and pop stores out of business. Now, they pretty much have a monopoly and don't give a damn if their customers are happy or not. It's not like they can't afford to do better - they just don't want to spend one more single penny.
I don't expect high quality produce and meat or anything else if I shop there. To get that, prices have to go up and then some people are back to not being able to afford anything. I want them to stay for those who need them. I just want them to spend a little bit on making sure customers (some who have no other choice) are treated fairly. It's easy for you and I to say "go somewhere else". I have 2 sets of friends who can't afford to go somewhere else because of layoffs. They are barely surviving and the $25.00 they save on their grocery bill each week at Walmart puts gas in their car. They take advantage of people knowing they have no other options and that sucks - whether you shop there or not.

The whole idea behind wage increases was to raise them out of poverty at their current employer. At least that was the line of the SEIU And now you say it's ok because they have more home time or can find a second job? It's math. Do you want to earn X amount of dollars in 30 hours a week, or 35 hours a week? Who wouldn't rather work 30 hours and get the same pay? The idea behind raising the minimum wage is for workers to earn x plus y for 35 hours a week, but if Walmart wants to avoid paying employees more money and has opted to have them work less hours (and understaff their stores), well, at least the employee has that extra time to work a second job, or to be a home with their kids (and not paying a sitter). The market will decide if people are willing to shop in a store with poorly displayed merchandise, no available staff on the floor, and long lines at check out in order to get their peanut butter for five cents less than at the Krogers. So, Walmart responds to bad policy and then the market decides if they like how Walmart decided to respond to bad policy, but without ever being given the full information on why some of the things they're irritated by are really the result of bad policy.

KMart used to be all there was. I hated shopping there because they always had people asking for handouts even before it became acceptable behavior by able bodied adults. When Target opened up, hooray! I've never been in a ghetto Walmart or thankfully, seen horrid shoppers. I did see a grown adult in her Jammie's in the Meijers store the other day. That surprised me.

I'm a bit intrigued to see what happens.. in our neighborhood we have a Walmart and Target that share a parking lot... Target's is generally full, while WM's lot is usually half empty. Last month Meijer (I think that's how it's spelled) opened up about a mile away... we think that was the final nail in the KMart coffin that just closed down . So in other words... within 1 1/2 miles there is: Walmart Target Meijer Kmart We were not impressed with Meijer, overall. But DH's diet makes grocery shopping more interesting for us than most people. And the road work going on in front of Meijer's isn't going to help them right now either. I thought we were supposed to be getting a Whole Food's over there too. But that's info from like 2 years ago. I consider shopping at that Target to the 6th circle of Hell but that's because 99.89% of the time I've got both kids with me. It's more the kids making it hell than the actual store.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about all that being so close... I like the convenience, but the traffic is going to be a nightmare (has been during the construction). whole foods is upscale. completely different market segment.

We are getting a Trader Joe's. They're hiring right now. Like 28th street isn't a cluster you know what already, let's add Trader Joe's to the mix!

No, the Target @sroo4 is talking about is/was sort of trying to go upscale a while back. Not sure if they still are. They do have a grocery section. The traffic is going to be a mess, esp. during rush hour, with or without the construction. It's not a good place to put high volume stores, in my opinion.

It's one thing to be heavy, it's another to be classless. I have friends that are heavy but dress like people with class. It isn't cute and it isn't funny. It's just sad to think that woman has so little self respect that she thinks the shirt is funny. And jammies, people? Unless you're under two years of age, they don't belong in public.

Exactly... If I go to WF to buy my organic mango jerky and I also need TP, I'm not going to run to Target or WM down the street... I'll grumble at my lazy self for being lazy all the while buying my unbleached easy composting organic bum wipes. Since I didn't go to Target (or WM -though I don't shop at WM), I then failed to buy the $150 worth of stuff that magically falls into my cart when I walk through the store on the way to the TP section. ETA: That's what I mean by erosion... it may not be a direct one for one replacement but it still has an impact We find that extra veggies and seafood falls into our cart at Whole Foods. Although with cupcakes or some kind of dessert that DH can eat.

Okay, I'll admit it. When I was 19 I wore a t shirt that said "Eat Me Raw." But on the back there were pictures of fruit and veggies. I wore it until my mom caught me and somehow it disappeared. I thought it was funny at the time though. I actually still do but wouldn't wear it now except maybe to yoga for laughs. Maybe. But out in public public, no way, and that woman is no spring chicken either.

Maybe Walmart should raise their prices. It just might deter customers like the above from shopping there. Just a thought.

The people in these pictures. Some of them could be recognized by other people. I realize they obviously don't care and think being mocked as people of Walmart might be a claim to fame like a honey boo boo thing, but still, do they give up any and all rights to privacy?

Hopefully she will be a little more upscale than whoever has her in the cart. I give up Tennesseer, this is a case for NBC and the show, "What would you do?".

I assume most people of walmart pics are posted by shoppers that took pictures on the sly. I don't think it is so much that they don't care their pictures are posted as they don't know their picture was taken & posted online to be mocked.
