I knew if someone started a discussion about this, some of you guys would be doing way too much defending the cops.... and you did not disappoint. AgeOfEnlightenmentSCP I think I love you.

Sarcastic girl's link said the cop after a certain point in the event was just a guy putting his hands on a woman who did not want him to and was just a guy telling her to put out her cigarette. After a certain point in time he had no legal right to detain her or make any more orders as she had complied with all the legal orders he had a right to make. There is no defense for a cop acting unprofessional and giving orders to a woman he has no legal right to detain. He was just mad and acting the bully. People do defend cops too much.

I do think cops deserve some slack and defense, but not in this case.

I do think cops deserve some slack and defense, but not in this case. Yes, it depends on what they do and why they did it. I know they're human and they'll make mistakes. But being a jackass and a bully is not an honest mistake. And even honest mistakes aren't to be taken lightly when they cost someone their freedom or their life.

I don't get what the cop was trying to do here, other than show off his power trip. He tells her he's going to give her a ticket, and then says, "you seem annoyed,". Duh. You're giving her a ticket, of course she's annoyed. Do you expect her to say thank you? Just give her the ticket and leave her alone.

Sadly, considering the reputation of Waller County, it was probably a racial thing... There are quite a few stereotypical "rednecks" in the area. I could be wrong. But I grew up in Houston, and in my 25 years there, I heard more than one story that would lead me to these conclusions. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

Was the cop over the top? Probably, but we do not know what happened after they walked to the roadside. It was out of view. The phone video started after she was already down in the grass. A trip to the jail for changing lanes is unacceptable. If she kicked him, and even I doubt that, but if she did, it's jail for the weekend until someone posts bail. As far as bail (I know that was not part of your post) her relatives were not from the hood. They were from the suburbs, and surely, if they could not roust the money, the church could of. Instead they wait for her to commit suicide and it is everybody's fault but family members and friends.

Doesn't make it any more valid than any poster here IMO

Doesn't make it any more valid than any poster here IMO I had a discussion with 3 attorneys who don't make their living suing cop... They all seem to interpret the law in a similar way to the author. It boggles my how anyone could find what happened on this video okay. Actually it scares the shit out of me! That anyone thinks this is acceptable. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

It did not cause her death. It was an arrest.
Still doesn't answer why she was permitted to keep her phone / who she called. And why wouldn't the family post bail?
I want to know who she called that upset her so much she committed suicide

I want to know who she called that upset her so much she committed suicideI didn't say it did. However if she had not been hauled in and detained, would she be alive? There's a big possibility, there's also a possibility she would have killed herself anyway. No way to know. Who knows why she had her cell phone. The dept. Wasn't exactly following proper protocol at all. As for the family... I have no idea. I don't know how it works to post bail. Do they have to be there in person? Her family is in the Chicago area, and she was outside of Houston. That's an 18 hour drive. Maybe they needed time to get things together, maybe someone was on their way? Maybe they just didn't have it? I have no clue. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

I didn't know so I looked it up. Apparently you can sign for it but don't have to go there. But you are responsible if the person doesn't show in court

Amazing, a black woman commits suicide, and the country thinks she was murdered in her jail cell. White people commit suicide in jail virtually everyday, many after a weekend or few days in jail, and no one thinks they were murdered. Can anyone here not say, a white person, male or female, in their city or county has not commited suicide while in jail? And even after a "questionable arrest"? Just think about the relatives of those white persons who then blamed the police for the death. It is just not a black phenomenon, and it is not always the police or jail"s fault.

I'd get in a car and drive hundreds of miles to help someone I cared about. Sounds like she alienated everyone with her mouth. I'd be interested in knowing who she called that told her to F off. Puts Zib on speed dial...

Of course it's being investigated. It should be investigated. Even if all signs point to suicide, there should still be an investigation. I don't think anyone would be happy with a "well it looks like...." and have it end. At least I wouldn't. It is being investigated as a murder. Not as a suicide. In other words- something's up. Did you happen to look at the pics in that link I posted? It's pretty damn creepy. Something is definitely not right. In the end, what you have is a bully with a badge that escalated a situation, which in the end resulted in a death while in police custody due to the police not following protocols designed specifically to prevent this from happening- if indeed that's what happened.

No, and I do not know Sandra Bland either. Refute my statement with facts, if you can. I do blame her relatives for inaction on her behalf. I sure as hell would not have left her sitting in jail over a ass charge like that if she were my relative.

I think everyone has to understand there is a dark side of many of our own relatives, that we do not see in the early years, but recognize over the decades. We have demanded the mental institutions be emptied and kept empty. People who need help go to places for a week or two, put on medication, released and told to keep taking the meds. Like that happens. Sandra may not fit this bill, but she had "cut" herself so something was wrong. Hundreds of thousands, or actually millions of Americans fit the same bill. No one worries about it til something happens.
