I have not bothered being on the chat this year. They installed chatroll and is hard to get on so you cannot continually follow the discussion and only see about 20 comments. Years past some people would say let nature do it's thing when dynamics in the nest were hard to watch. The aggressive nature of the first born, always pecking the younger chick is a good example. The first hatched has a head start, as it is usually two to three days ahead of the second egg. It is stronger, and is aggressive at the feedings and will attack the sibling to keep the feeding coming to it. The young chick soon learns to bow it's head and look away. The adult always seems to feed the more aggressive chick, who shows an inclination of having a better chance at surviving. Sometimes the adult will feed the second chick when the first one falls away in a food coma, but not always. The posters go bananas about this and want the weaker chick taken care of. Hence this is part of the reason for the statement they will not interfere, let nature take it's course statement, to try to warn the more worried watchers. There were people who did sort of troll the board trying to stir up the masses so to speak. Add in they know they have school children there all the time, they want to keep it as "pg" as possible. It is a very slight variation of the boards here, only no post is posted until a mod reads your post and accepts it. Sometimes a mod might say, Value buy, I read your post, is a little insensitive, please rephrase in a milder way, or say we are not at that point where we will discuss that issue. Granted they are much more mild there than here. There is no politics in the pines. Or money issues.

I prefer driving over and spending an hour watching and talking to eagle fanatics, but when the birds are young, the computer is where you see the action.
Observers have no problem letting others look through telescopic lens seeing them up close and personal.
(for the most part)

Looks like the current nesting season is coming to a close. E 9 seems to be out on it's own now. Totally understandable at this age. The adventure should continue in late October of this year when hopefully Harriet and M15 return together for a new nesting season.

It is that time of year again! The Eagles are back at North Fort Myers Florida, working on their nest for the upcoming nesting season. dickpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.htmlChat will not open until November but the camera feed is now live. I am happy to see the tree survived Hurricane Irma. They lost a lot of large pines down here.

Not too much going on yet. The tree and the repairs to the nest look great.

Thought I would update the thread for anyone who has forgotten the Eagles. Harriet has laid two eggs and the pair have been sharing nesting duties on the nest.

Hard to believe the eggs are 23 and 26 days old already. Today is a good day to watch on the cameras as it it is a bright day in the pines! I think they did a darn good job of rebuilding the nest this fall. It looks great! Here is the link for new fans who want to watch live, 24/7 dickpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.html

It is very chilly in the nest this morning. The nest is full of fish heads, and looks like a gutted bird, with feathers blowing in the strong breeze..... The young ones are not going hungry this year!

If anyone is still sort of housebound due to the weather, you might click on the link and watch the eagles for a few minutes or hours. It is a great diversion, and you can have a cup of hot chocolate or tea at the same time! www.dickpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.html

was that a dead cat or kitten at the 1:53 mark? I'm not sure. But I know I would not want to be a song bird living in that couple'neighborhood.

Last year we had an owl trying to take out one of the young eaglets right on the nest in the middle of the night. The eaglet was missing for days before they found it injured and hiding in the brush blocks away.

Last year we had an owl trying to take out one of the young eaglets right on the nest in the middle of the night. The eaglet was missing for days before they found it injured and hiding in the brush blocks away. Blue jays and a few other birds are notorious during breeding and egg development season for raiding smaller birds nests and eating the empty egg shells and on occasion, eating the smaller bird's young. The blue jays are after the calcium in the small birds's shells and bones. Much of the calcium in female blue jays is depleted during their egg development. That may be one reason why an owl snatched the eaglet. Or the owl was just hungry.

Update! Been rather boring lately, but we are on egg hatch watch. Egg number one is about 26 hours from possible "due date" hatch based on historical time from egg laying to hatching. Might want to check in this weekend to see if we get a new bobblehead. Egg number two is a couple of days later due date.

Second egg hatched Christmas eve. Both chicks doing well and seem to have grown quite a bit in a couple of days! See post 231 for the link.

Goodness, the Es are tiny. Two dingy cotton balls, one head, one stomach, connected by fluff. Are those egg teeth on the ends of their beaks?
