I was just looking at my leave balance statement and realize that I am going to have to burn nearly 3 weeks of vacation between now and 6/30. This is going to be challenging as I need to hit the ground with my feet running when I return from my surgery. If I don't use it, I lose it.
Last year, we went to Mexico in Feb. and were planning on going again this year. However, my surgery threw a kink into this and my time off is sick time, not vacation.
Right now, TD and I are meeting up with some friends in Myrtle Beach in June. These are people I went to college with and we've been trying to get together for ages, but life has gotten in the way. They own 2 condos down there and we've got one for a week. That's a week of time, I still have 2 more to kill.
Then in May, my Turkish buddy and her DH are going to be in the US for his professional society and TD and I are going to meet up with them. That'll likely only be a long weekend.
So scrambling to figure out how to kill my remaining 10 days by the end of June. At this point, I'm *hoping* my boss will allow me to use some 'creative bookkeeping' (i.e. take the time off before 6/30 but still work, then take the time 'off the books' in July). I may pitch it to my boss that I'll come back out here and continue to work at least part time while here....
However, we WILL be going south next Feb!

Florida is still nice (and not so humid) between now and June. The snowbirds and slow-driving Canadians will be leaving by the end of March. Why not come down here?

We haven't taken a real vacation since DS was small. Our vacations consist of going to gun shows.

Daphne, I assume that's the New Orleans Mardi Gras. (yes there is another place that parades for a month)

Why not come down here?
The problem is not the 'where', the problem is the work that I need to do and just cannot take the time without being productive, somehow. Going to FL almost guarantees that I won't be productive at work.
A friend of mine is on the pit crew of unlimited hydroplanes. There is a race in Tri-Cities at the end of July and she can usually score us pit passes to watch the races. It's been a couple years since we've hit this race and she's been making noises about quitting, so if I come out to TD's for those remaining 10 days, I can work while he's at work and we can take off for a long weekend.

Oh, my bad. I thought you wanted to take off and be unproductive. But I hear you. I cannot really do that, either. Where I go, the laptop goes. I think we are heading for NYC this year.

I'm not sure where we're going this year. DH and I haven't had a real vacation for the past couple of years and I've got at least 2 weeks on the books now plus I get over 4 weeks more (we accrue vacation each pay day).
I want to take a cruise but DH doesn't want to, but I keep trying to convince him. Maybe a week somewhere on a tropical island? I'd love to go to Hawaii.

Have fun Daphne! It's been way too long since I went to NO Mardi Gras. Actually, I haven't been to any in years, I don't have the patience for crowds like I used to. I'm afraid I'll get arrested.

This year my DD is going to Florida to see The Mouse. As far as the rest of us I am sure that I will be forced to use our vacation to visit DH's family again this summer and of course bring the KFC.

Besides I am going to get mad one day and get in the car with the kids and just drive to Florida. If he wants to go see his crazy relatives he can do it by himself. I may write it on FB but his dad's wife is going off the deep end now. And she was one of the more sane ones.

It is gorgeous in the Adirondacks, my dad lives up there and I went to college up there too. Unfortunately, recently I've only been up there during the absolute worst time of the year.

We're going to Vegas in May with friends, but that'll only be a couple of vacation days. DH and I will both have about 2 1/2 weeks to burn by September 1 - not sure where we're going to go yet. That's the question...I'd love to do Kenya, but so far, he's completely uninterested.

Beach, so hit Church's and get spicy. Or go to some nasty place that makes the worst chicken ever and take that ;D
Swamp, meh, I can buy better beads at Walmart for less hassle.

TD and I got Disneyed out a couple years ago when my research meeting was in Orlando, actually at the Dolphin. He came at the end of the meeting and we spent a couple extra days doing all the parks. The one advantage was that since the meeting was at the park hotels, we got some pretty nice perks.
Both of us have come to the conclusion that we've 'been there, done that' and are looking afield for other places to visit. I'd love to go through the Panama Canal, neither of us have been on a cruise. A friend of mine is from Columbia and I'd love to see the places he talks about. I still want to go to Morocco, Lisbon and Barcelona. I'd like to go to Fiji or Tahiti and stay in one of those huts over the water. A safari in Africa sounds fun, albeit expensive. I've never been to either Australia or New Zealand, would like to see both.
So many places, so little time.......

Punta Cana, Toronto, New Brunswick, Calgary...those are the trips that are booked. I am working on a trip to Brussels and Korea. Well they would be 2 separate trips. Disney (the one in Florida) is next summer.
