DH and I will both have about 2 1/2 weeks to burn by September 1 - not sure where we're going to go yet. You could always celebrate my birthday that day. We are going to Cooperstown in September. I can't wait! We're going the week after my 30th.

Went to Vegas in January. I've gone to Myrtle Beach for the past 3 summers. Not sure I want to do that again but its a family thing. We'll see if a better use for my time off comes up. May plan some long weekends to coincide with family stuff. I should get to go to Clearwater again this summer for work training so that'll give me my Gulf fix. I'd like to go to a whole lot of places but I don't see that happening this year. This earning vacation each pay day and it taking 3 paydays to have enough hours to take one day off is a pain. Get 4 hours/check and I work 9 hour days most days.

Mich - so you want to take vacations... but still be working? Man, I don't think I ever had that type of commitment to a job! When I go on vacation, I completely unplug and it's SOL if anything comes up!
That being said, we're planning on going to NC late July/early Aug and starting to talk about going to FL for DS - he wants to build a sandcastle and hasn't been to a beach before.

I was planning a bunch of several day or short trips all over in the motorhome, but man with gas so high I doubt it. So we are still hoping to go to Yellowstone which was the plan from last year. DD and I were going to go for at least a month, if hubby is home maybe he will go with us and that is still the plan. I would like that. I hope the gas prices will come down but don't really see it happening. From your posts, you have the money. Screw the price of gas and just go. Pull the lump of coal out of your butt, I'm sure it's a diamond by now.

Mich - so you want to take vacations... but still be working? Man, I don't think I ever had that type of commitment to a job! When I go on vacation, I completely unplug and it's SOL if anything comes up!
Rose, I'm in a rough situation. I will have been off work for nearly 2 months recovering from surgery by the time I return. But our fiscal year ends in a little over 3 months after I return and I must burn 3 weeks of vacation in those 3 months.
Taking additional time off is going to be rough, particularly since I have a student waiting to start her research project and I've had to put her off until I return to get her started. So she's been left dangling. I have a clinical project that MUST get started as it's getting out of hand and I've got more writing than I want to think about. I've got a half finished development and would be another publication with about 6 weeks more work (more writing). Oh, and there's this small issue of a thesis I need to write so I can complete my doctorate. It came up on my PE in Jan. and my boss wants my degree marked 'paid'.
My boss has been awesome, but when my hip started failing I was not able to work the way that I normally did. Not only that, the 4 weeks between Christmas and my surgery, I took off every day that it snowed since I could not risk falling (the joint was so painful, it would not allow me to get up from the ground). That was almost 2 days/week. I did some work from home, but pain issues kept the concentration to a minimum, so I did what was necessary and no more.
Honestly, I'd probably just prefer them to pay me out for 2 of those 3 weeks, but my employer doesn't do this.

My kids refuse to go to Disney, and since I was there four times last year without them, I decided to take them to San Diego this spring instead. It's been about six years since we've been to the zoo so we're going there for spring break. If you haven't been, the SD zoo is the best in the world.

Whisk, when are you gonna play the Atonyote course at the Turning Stone? I'm going to have to check that out. I'm thinking one golf vacation per year until I become independently wealthy. My buddy lives in NC, so I'm starting there first.

I was just looking at my leave balance statement and realize that I am going to have to burn nearly 3 weeks of vacation between now and 6/30. This is going to be challenging as I need to hit the ground with my feet running when I return from my surgery. If I don't use it, I lose it. Last year, we went to Mexico in Feb. and were planning on going again this year. However, my surgery threw a kink into this and my time off is sick time, not vacation. Right now, TD and I are meeting up with some friends in Myrtle Beach in June. These are people I went to college with and we've been trying to get together for ages, but life has gotten in the way. They own 2 condos down there and we've got one for a week. That's a week of time, I still have 2 more to kill. Then in May, my Turkish buddy and her DH are going to be in the US for his professional society and TD and I are going to meet up with them. That'll likely only be a long weekend. So scrambling to figure out how to kill my remaining 10 days by the end of June. At this point, I'm *hoping* my boss will allow me to use some 'creative bookkeeping' (i.e. take the time off before 6/30 but still work, then take the time 'off the books' in July). I may pitch it to my boss that I'll come back out here and continue to work at least part time while here.... However, we WILL be going south next Feb! COME TO CHI TOWN !!!!!

NorCal. San Jose and all over the bay area, drinking in Napa, and skiing in Squaw Valley. One little known place I love is Safari West, near Santa Rosa. It's a 400+ acre African big game park, where a guide takes you in a Range Rover through the park. Well worth the visit. www.safariwest.com/

We'll be back in Vegas in May, which is no surprise to those of you who know me. What can I say; we've been going for 22 years and still enjoy it all. Other than that, I will be back in Florida to see my Mom maybe August/September for a few days. The rest of my vacation time will probably be weekends in Atlantic City or Connecticut. No, I don't have a gambling problem. I can quit any time I want. Honest, I can.

Going to the Outer Banks with DH's family end of May so it is still "out of season". None of us have kids old enough to be in school yet.

We are not going on a vacation this year, and I'm happy about it. We usually go to the Outer Banks with DH's family, but it was just such a hassle last year with the baby. And we're trying to save money for have baby #2 and to buy a bigger house.
Some of my family is coming into town in July. We're all taking our vacation that week and basically hanging out at my parents' pool, drinking, playing games and just relaxing. I'm really looking forward to it. We may take a day and take DD to the zoo if it's not blazing hot that week.

The only trip I'm planning is for Diamond Lake in Oregon in late May. We're kind of limited in time for vacations because my wife burned a lot of accrued vacation time for her first hip replacement, and will be using more late this year for the second one.

I'm going to be doing a bunch of small trips in the US to visit friends. I'm definitely going back to where I went to law school this summer -- we're going to do a mini 5-year reunion (which means golf, booze and karaoke). The rest will just kind of depend on who is available when and where.

J does have all that vacation time to burn. Guess I shouldn't have whisk look up what a round at The Greenbrier costs. If I remember right WV has some better courses than those three anyway. Not that those three and the sporting club courses aren't sweet.

I think we're sticking with a week in Atlanic City. Not elaborate or fancy, but 5 days of eating, gambling, and enjoying the beach is something I'm actually really looking forward to.
