No My beagle always snored too much He sleeps in his crate or doggy bed. Always has. Poor old guy would have trouble getting upstairs to our bedroom these days,

Years ago they did, but when we moved we made sure the kitchen and bedrooms are pet free zones. Dh is horribly allergic to dogs and cats (and yes he still insisted on being a vet tech), so getting the animals out of the bedroom has helped him stay healthier physically, and helped keep my sanity since those rooms no longer need twice a day dusting and vacuuming.
I kicked the dogs out of the bed originally because of behavioral/training issues. Dh would let them get in bed with him after I left though, and "my dog" would listen for the front door to lock/unlock to make sure I never caught her in the bed. She was always great for me and would listen to me from across the house, but she would ignore or even bark at Dh if he asked her to do something. ;D

Yup, and that's why we have a king. We blended critters not kids.

Also he sleeps like a human: head on the pillow and body alongside us. He usually sleeps next to my wife but if he is feeling needy he sleeps in between us. Haha, I love the visual! Our mini panther mostly sleeps near people; on the desk near us, on a cupboard near us, under a table near us, on a couch cushion near us. When it gets cold in the winter he does sleep on our feet, but DF and I tend to roll, so sometimes he says "screw it," and konks out near the bed instead. He was a stay kitten found in the back of a truck, so he's extremely cautious and not too cuddly by nature. He's a stoic sweetheart though; he's great about letting us giving him medicine if need be, and we've childproofed him, fussing over him and fiddling with his ears and paws. I get the feeling that naturally he would run from humans, but he views us as allies. Once he ran back from the woods to defend DF from a huge dog that got into the yard and was bouncing around, wanting to play. He views all dogs as deadly threats, but he sprinted over and stood ground, growling and swiping at the air to try and get the dog away from DF. DF picked him up and carried him inside, but it was pretty impressive. The dog was 80 pounds, and he was only 9 pounds at the time. Normally he darts away from even tiny dogs that he could probably hunt. We took it as proof that he likes us, even if he doesn't sit on laps.

Only if they want to. They also have their own room which sometimes they prefer to ours. We joke that when Mattie (who usually likes to sleep with me and keeps me up because she is too warm or I'm afraid of smooshing her) chooses her room to ours because she needs to get her rest from my snoring and moving around. But it's really me that needs the sleep. Sometimes after DH is up I wake up surrounded by 3 or 4 of them right up against me. DH keeps the a/c really low while getting ready for work and they get chilled. So I start my day in kitty heaven. Over heated but happy. Okay. You are no longer my dream date. You snore and I need my beauty sleep.

Yup! I grew up with a cat that slept in my bed so I've carried that into adulthood. My DH is a great guy and indulges me. We have three cats now and it gets kinda crowded, with the 2 of us plus them in a queen bed. Luckily, one of the cats hates the other 2 so if they are there. she will usually sleep elsewhere. The two that usually stay like to sleep against our legs. One likes to wake us up for "breakfast" at 3 AM by jumping on us and licking our faces.. . He is too cute to swat away though

Our dog is huge (like 120 pounds). She likes her dog bed in the laundry room. The cat sleeps with older son most nights, but I shut my bedroom door.

Cats got kicked out of bedroom when dogs came. 2 cats go in the basement, one cat goes by herself in laundry rooom. Oldest dog. Sleeps between our pillows ( like a people) other two dogs sometimes slept with us, but generally they prefer their crates which are also in our bedroom. When they were puppies they slept in crate downstairs, but one of them would cry alllllll night long, even though he was right beside his sister. As soon as we moved him upstairs in a crate, he was fine. All part of the dachshund plot to take over our lives I think. DH says these are our last pets, but he is wrong. But I figure I don't need to have that argument for at least 12 years.

Other than keeping them out by closing the door, is there really any good way to train a cat not to sleep in the bed?
My kitty used to be allowed everywhere when it was just me and her. But DH doesn't want her on tables and counters, so we have had to try to break her of that over the past few years. All it's really succeeded in doing, though, is having her go up there when we aren't there. As evidenced by the cat prints we routinely find on the glass top stove. I walked into the kitchen today to find her drinking the water in the bottle warmer. She looked at me and quickly jumped down.

You can get scat cans. It's a motion detector on top of a can of compressed air. Set them on the counters ans when the cat jumps up it will beep and spray air at them.
Upside down contact paper in a door way may teach them to stay out of a bedroom.

Queen size bed and our boy - 17 pound cat would take up a section which would push GF closer to me which pushes me closer to the edge but now without GF - I have a second cat - and somehow not at the edge but close LOL

No chance our dog is sharing the bed. She is crate trained and used to sleep in our room, but prefers to sleep in the living room now.
When we got the dog, the only battle that I was able to win with the DW was that the dog would not sleep in the bed.

Most people that i know who don't have animals cannot comprehend letting animals sleep in your bed. And most animal lovers have difficulty imagining life without their animals. I don't really get along with people who don't like animals. It is perfectly fine to me if people don't like PEOPLE, but animals? What's not to like?

Um, our Bad Boy Puppy has had both fleas AND ringworm. So, NO, he does not get to climb in the bed with DH & I. However, he is welcome to sleep outside the bedroom door (and he often does).

I agreed and when we got Maggie as a puppy, we used a baby gate to section off a carpeted alcove adjacent to the downstairs bathroom. That worked until one night she refused. DH gave in and moved her bed into our room. A few month later, I had to leave the country for an extended period to deal with my mother's issues. When I returned, I was getting ready for bed, I looked down and she was laying on The bed! On MY side of the bed! With her head on MY pillow! She gave me a "WHAT?" look. I looked at DH who had a very sheepish look on his face. She slept in our bed until we decided it just wasn't big enough.

We are pet free now and I don't want more. ISO was calling a cat that was in the yard when I told him no more cats. He asked if we didn't have a cat who would we sleep with. I suggested he get a teddy bear.
Funny because when we met he didn't like cats but I got two anyhow that were little kittens. He said he didn't trust them so at night he put them on the bed and shut the door so they wouldn't run all over the house. He would make them lay next to him so he could keep an eye on them.
I didn't try it but I heard if cats are not to be allowed on a table you can place mouse traps upside down so when they jump up they spring them and get scared.

My pupster Mason sure does sleep with me. He almost always lays right up next to me. Sorry for him, because I'm a major tosser and turner. I always said the next dog I had I wanted a lap dog. I can't get much more lap dog than him. He loves to sit or lay in my lap all the time. Even when we are outside - he will look around and watch things, but it's usually from my lap. I'm not complaining though. My last dog before him was a beagle. She was an absolute sweetie, but she never did like getting up on furniture or the bed. Every once in a while if we were away from home and my folks would come and feed her, etc. they would catch her laying on the couch or chair. Even after the ex and I split up, I tried to let her sleep on the bed and she didn't want to. She would lean up against your leg while you were sitting, or lay up against the bed. Probably for the best, because she sure did a lot of shedding. Mason is a Bichon Frise, so doesn't shed at all.

At start I really didn't want the responsibility and there was a short period for a couple of weeks that I really resented her and my DW for getting her. In hindsight it was just the burden of puppy training and these days I think she's great and have completely changed. Still not sleeping in the bed with us though

Who doesn't, right??! I remember the first night we brought the cat home we set him up in the guest room and DH said he could sleep in there. About a 1/2 hour of meowing later, DH went in there and brought the kitten in the bed with us. The dog has wanted to sleep with us since we brought her home, but that was the cat's territory so I said no. She was in her crate for the first 6 months, then we moved her crate into DS's bedroom and she slept on his bed. Something happened in the past month or so, because the cat now sleeps on the cable box in the LR and the dog is bed with us now. When I am home alone, the both of them will sleep with me.

Just wondering for those that toss & turn, do you lose bed space during the night? It seems that every time I move whatever gap I create is take & it ends up that I have no room. We have a king size bed & it's very rare for me to wake up with more than about 10 inches of bed. Several mornings I have found myself holding on to my dresser (right beside the bed) to keep from being pushed off the bed.

Toy poodle and I share my bed. Recently she does the rounds to check on the girls and sleeps with them for a couple of hours. She also goes to sleep with one of them when I get up to get ready for work and they are still in bed. I got a small poodle specifically because she was small and wouldn't shed. My parents make their shedding machine, I mean dog, stay downstairs in the kitchen when everyone goes to bed. That dog is so social, the whole time he was there he would follow me around and lay at my feet wherever I sat down. I would at least let him have a bed on the floor next to my bed. My Baby Dog Honey, a poodle, died April 22 and I am still
Honey is not replaceable so I do not intend to try. She had Cushing Disease, had been ill for a couple of years, and although she had the best VET care and home care the disease is progressive.

My two goldens run the show around here and sleep wherever they want. My old girl prefers her memory foam by the bed so she can watch for squirrels first thing in the morning but my younger one moves between the bed, the couch, her crate, and the bathroom floor.

Yep! It was fine with the two dogs (10 pounds and 15 pounds) but since #3 came a few weeks ago (15 pounds) my queen bed is feeling REALLY small Looks like my cat weighs more than your dogs. He's 19 pounds. Yes, he absolutely sleeps with me, sometimes under the covers.
