Lesbians are people just like the rest of use. There is no need to try and use a derogatory term to describe them.

Regarding marketing and advertising, it is a good field. It is competitive and cutthroat, but what isn't? And with the internet and new technology, it has to be an exciting field with someone new always going on.

As for Mr. Van "Lesbian" -- try typing "cra.ckers" and see what happens! Or "Fantas.y Isla.nd (is that one still a "thing?)

LOL! Sorry, tloonya. Because some folks just can't seem to communicate without using insulting terms for those people (or things) they don't like, it was decided to make some words used in this way go missing. Poor Mr. Van D is collateral damage, I'm afraid. mmhmm, Administrator

From wenche's link: Data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics: The salary range for Advertising, Sales & Marketing begins around $43,325 and usually tops out around $127,870, with a mean in the neighborhood of $85,598. This is about 97% higher than the national average for annual salaries.
Thanks, not so bad...not so bad...

I know crackers was changed to saltines, but what was Fantasy Island? I believe it came up as "inappropriate content" or something along those lines.

what about marketing/advertising is your dd interested in?
what is it about that job that she sees as so desirable?
it is a very lucrative job...in the right area and for the right person
it is, as someone pointed out above, one of the most competitive fields there is

Looney,
My first wife sold advertising time for a local radio station. She made a mint. But, she was very, very good at it.
As a career.... marketing is generally a good paying position, if you're good at closing the sale. You see, "marketing" (sales) is what brings in the revenue for a company. They want good salespeople. They want people who can bring in the money into the company.

Marketing has more to do with media advertising while sales is more one-on-one relationship building and closing deals.

Mr. Van Dyke and Laura Petrie can rest easy.

It's changed a lot since Mad Men and Mr. Van D. So much advertising was in magazines that no longer exist or are shadows of what they used to be. Even TV is splintered into hundreds of networks instead of the 3 major ones. People get everything off the Web and you have to keep developing new ways to reach them.
Marketing can be one of those majors where you never get a job, or you're a salesperson at The Gap. Combine it with an ability to sell at a corporate level (bringing in business to an ad agency, or a pharmaceutical company or an insurance broker) and you can make big bucks. That takes a special personality and the ability to cold-call and deal with rejection. The people in my firm (insurance brokerage) who bring in business make into seven figures. They're worth it. I have a niece who's under 30 and is on her 4th marketing job in pharma- they come looking for her. She's smart, gorgeous and has a condo in Atlanta with a million-dollar view. She's also a fashionista. Definitely a princess, but she went out and got that life for herself. Yesterday I met with someone similar who just joined our firm- tall, gorgeous, smart, with a star-studded engagement/wedding ring set and a Kate Spade handbag (which I wouldn't have known except it said "Kate Spade" on it). She's also going to be going out and getting business for the firm. I've tried that gig as part of my responsibilities in small consutling firms- it was dran hard work and I never got very good at it.
I agree with gvdyva- have her narrow it down. She like studying the subjects, but what kind of job does she want when she gets out? That will help her focus on what she needs to learn.

you need to figure out what the attraction is for her in that field
why advertising/marketing?
creative? big money available? not tied to a desk? people orientated?
why does she like that field at this point in time.....
once we have that answer, maybe we can give better guidance

I work in a marketing and sales company. We have 3 specific distinct groups here - Marketing, Sales and Advertising. They are related, but they aren't the same.
The marketing group manages the products. They determine packaging, pricing, marketing position, coupons, promotions and deals, etc. The entry level position is a marketing assistant, which you have to be very organized and detail oriented. As you move up the ladder, you get to be more creative, but you always have to keep the numbers in mind.
The sales group manages the customer. They take the products to the customer and work to get them purchase more product. They help to stage some customer's shelves (although our big customers we serve with a merchandising group.) They work with customers to help them get our product through and channel and into the consumer's hands. This group is getting more technical all the time. Our customers (we are B to B) are very concerned about their profit, so a lot of our sales tactics are about how to sell our product to make more money. This has changed over the last 30 years, when we used to be able to say "Hey, buddy, can you buy a truckload of product so we can make numbers and get a bonus?"
The advertising group gets direction from marketing on what type of advertisements go where. We have very few products with TV ads, but we do radio and magazine. They are also starting to work with internet placement, but we are way behind on that, so I can't speak intelligently on that.
