I would treat it as I do now, being my own boss, by balancing my work load with days off. I've always had a fantastic work ethic, and wouldn't want to take advantage of a boss, or leave them in a bind. I think it comes from my parents being the boss for so many years, and seeing what they went through with personnel issues. The only thing I would do differently is I wouldn't carry my effin' phone with me or check email on said days off. Would you ever want to own your own business? If you do, or have in the past, any regrets or success stories?

at this point in my life, I don't think I would. I have enough other stress at the moment, where I appreciate that I can come in, put in my 8h, and go home. that's not to say that opinion is a permanent one, but right now, it's what I need.
any big plans for the holiday weekend? taking any time off?

Off Saturday and Sunday, working Monday and Tuesday. I just hope I remember to wake up on Monday as I'm pulling a day shift. Should be interesting. I'll be bringing my bag of coffee in. Biggest plan is to mow the yard. Exciting, I know. Need to actually do some yard work instead of looking at it and then going to bed. Do you travel anywhere to watch fireworks or does your town have them? Boston is Boston. I watch them on tv. I did the Esplanade thing years ago. No desire to ever do that again.

this year, I'll be on a boat somewhere in Vineyard Sound. we will have the Falmouth fireworks on one side, Edgartown on the other. and this is after having spent all day already on the boat, in the sun.
I used to do the "mad dash at 5am" for lawn space on the Esplanade back in the day. but the ridiculous restrictions after 9/11 made it more trouble than it was worth, IMHO. bless those souls that still go there all day.
after a particularly honest conversation tonight, I'm curious - have you ever had life kick you in the ass to clean up your game? how did you respond? and what was it, if you don't mind sharing...?

You mean like the "I drank a box of wine and half a bottle of vodka night" where I vented my spleen to DH, made posts on here that could, and probably should have, gotten me banned and then blacked out and woke up about 12 hours later still drunk? That one? Yeah. I stopped drinking. I found a sobriety book to read and it had exercises which helped me a lot with trying to deal with myself. It made me realize I was still angry with my mother about some choices she made when I was a kid and that they affected me more than I thought. Also, if I remember the general date correctly, it was right around my dad's birthday and I am still so incredibly angry with him for dropping dead on me, 14 years ago. Lame, I know, but I was Daddy's girl. I also realized that I'm 44 and I really don't want to be a fat drunken loser in a dead end job for the rest of my life. I want to remember what it's like to use my brain.
Have you gone to any high school reunions and/or do you hear about any of the people you were in school with and are surprised that the biggest asshole in the class actually became a useful citizen?

No. Unfortunately, I think assholes are assholes. I went to the reunion thinking people change. They didn't. But then neither did I. My skin is still much too thin. I suffer with a small dose of paranoia. And the wounds are still there and open. Some people make excuses and say that was then this is now; look they finally grew up. I can't get out of "then ".
Who do you miss?

Countless former coworkers. It's amazing how you can block out a place you worked for 15 years to the point where you can't remember the names of people you used to talk to/work side-by-side with daily. I kept in contact with three since I left, and two of those died unexpectedly. Hope the last one doesn't have a hidden heart issue!
High school reunion... I think I'm working nights that weekend. It's in town, but I don't plan on going. Only one person I'd want to see, and he didn't go to the last one (and has no identifiable online presence).
Will you be lighting any fireworks yourself this year?

definitely not. I will be on a boat.
do you plan your vacation/weekends around heavy traffic, or are you one of the "road warriors" that sits in it?

comment: actually that is a good question for me because I do enjoy driving. but with that said. I do not really get into stop and go traffic. and when I do get in stop and go traffic. my music makes the time easier to deal with.
answer: I plan around heavy traffic.
question: where do you keep your souvenirs from vacation?

We usually eat/drink our souvenirs these days. I am trying not to clutter the house with more knickknacks, so we buy food items we can bring home and enjoy. I am still working though my Boston foodie stash. We are going to New Orleans this fall and driving there, so we can bring back some good stuff.
If you had the time to volunteer and do one thing to make your community better, what would you do?

What I do right now is make quilts. I make my own baby quilts and blankets to donate to an NICU on my own. I also help hand quilt quilts that get raffled off by the senior center to use as a fundraiser. Right now, my group is making 100 quilts to donate, through the senior center, four meals on wheels recipients. It's a fun hobby and it's really helped me developer my skills.
Have you ever taken a greyhound to go on a trip?

specifically Greyhound - no. however, I have been on a bus to go on trips. they were nice back then. so I can imagine how much better they are now. {as long as the driver is not texting or falls asleep while driving!} which makes me think. I have been on a train. but not for a trip. plane - yes - for a trip. also have been in the cockpit, but it's not called that anymore - LOL. I have flown with the pilots before. I have been on a boat. but not a cruise ship. I have been on a docked battle ship in NY. hell, that's right. I have been on a docked submarine in Maryland.
Question: have you ever been in an RV / mobile home?

My parents used to rent an RV to go to state fair every summer, so I've done that. They also bought an old RV years ago and the ex and I took that camping for a trip shortly before my son was born. When we visit my brother, we'll stay in their trailer so we don't take up their living room to sleep.
Any food cravings lately? I got lost in the youtube rabbit hole and really want a meat pie now (and all the other stuff this guy cooks in his videos!)

Keep that stuff in the fridge.
Grilled cheese, but made in bacon grease instead of butter, so good!
I made the meat pies tonight for dinner, I will make them again.

Apple, those look and sound amazing. Time to bed varies. When I am being responsible, just after 9. Some nights not until midnight. This results in being late most days to the office. If I were my employer, I'd have fired me a long time ago. Do you have good time management skills?

Yes. It only takes one person to turn everything upside down and horrible. My dream job became an insane nightmare it took years to escape from. I even had a nightmare about my old boss last night I'm hoping my current job, which is even better, stays the way it is. Fortunately though, I'm in a better position now that escape in the future should be easier, if needed. Do you have the kind of job you have to take home with you (mentally or physically), or can you walk out at quitting time and not think about it until your alarm goes off for your next shift?

Aw, thanks, ZaireinHD! I need to say that to myself more often. Both. Back when I first stated by agency, the mental stress was REALLY bad. Nowadays I still have stressful days, but am managing them better. ie step away from my desk, redirect my focus, breathe, etc. If it's a really bad day, I'll close up and go for an "attitude adjustment". When is the last time you re-purposed something?

re-purpose? meaning something like my exercise bike turns to a close holder. then back to a exercise bike. then to a clothes holder again. and back to a exercise bike. yea like almost every month! currently it's a exercise bike! LOL or I or we or maybe she purchased a laundry cabinet. when my EXGF and I split. I managed to keep the laundry cabinet. now 4 months at my current residence. I was looking up {ummm...affordable} microwave carts or microwave stands. then guess what. the exact picture of my laundry cabinet came up and I think with same size detentions. so I put it in the kitchen and the microwave on top. the laundry stuff still inside.
what size bed to you have?

Last thing I repurposed was probably a milk jug. We cut the tops off half gallon jugs and my mom uses them to give away tomato plants she grows from seed.
Queen sized bed. Sometimes I wish they were longer, but width wise it's fine.
Are you making any homemade gifts this year?

Probably not. Not particularly crafty and I despise baking. That and I only give presents to about 4 people. Maybe. We still have MIL's Christmas card from last year. Forgot to give it to her. She doesn't remember so we're fine to give it next year.
Apple, my dad used to do that with the milk jugs too. And he used them as pots just so he wouldn't have to buy a billion more.
Why are you even thinking of Christmas?!?!?!?!

Thinking of Christmas because I have a quilt top I need to get quilted for my parents. Need to learn my new machine and frame first though!
My mom will take any pots people will give her, she goes through hundreds a season!
Do you grow plants from seed? If not, can you keep plants alive, or do you tend to have that black thumb of death?

I grow from seed and I can keep them alive. Mostly. My antique Christmas cactus is pissed at me and I've lost most of it but it's still hanging on. I can't figure out if it's the location or the annoying cats that are the problem. My marigolds out front are from seed and they look awesome. My 3 rose bushes and 4 lilacs are doing well as it the butterfly bush that is FINALLY getting ready to bloom. The morning glories are a lost cause because the rabbits ate most of them. Bastards.
If you have a garden, do you plan it out on paper first or do you just wing it and put what you think will work wherever? I do a little of both but right now I'm mostly just ignoring. I really need to get out and work on the Enchanted Forest patch.

Beach. I live about 15 minutes from the ocean, so it's super easy.
If you were to get a dog, would you rather get a puppy or adult from the rescue group?

I'm a sucker for a cute puppy, but I get adults from shelters. It's going to be a long time before I can get a dog again, over 20 years, but when I do, I might get an adult and a young-ish dog as camper travel companions.
My ex-bf got a puppy from the shelter, part chocolate lab, part mutt, and I loved being able to train her, but puppies are so much work!
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
