reputable service I usually go off of personal experience and then word of mouth. and with that said. I do realize that just because this service has done wonders for others or so many others. don not mean it will go just as great for me.
Question: should a guy still open the door(s) or push in the chair when out on a date?

summer: S'mores at our firepit for Sunday Family dinner. reputable service: Word of mouth, internet reviews (but nothing I pay for) door/chair: Whoever gets to the door first should hold open the door. No adult should ever push in another capable adult's chair.
Does your job have seasonal ebbs and flows?

My job is steady in that I'm employed year-round, but we do have times that are more busy than others. Some jobs are saved for summer just because the weather is nicer, and other jobs, like certain maintenance, are saved for winter because the equipment is not used then. Overtime for my crew is pretty much based on covering vacations and sick time, so it's not seasonal either, other than sick time is more frequent in winter, and vacation more frequent in nice weather, around holidays, and hunting seasons.
When was the last time you called in sick to work?

February. I actually stayed home because DH fell and I needed to make sure he was ok. I haven't called out actually sick since 2/14/16.
Do you use sick time for yourself only or for family emergencies? I usually use it for DH.

yes - I use sick time for me
question: is it more important to look good and be a little uncomfortable or to be comfortable in your off beat fashion style?

I can't even remember the last time I tried to "look good" for something, so I'm going for comfort in my own totally unfashionable style.
Do you have a favorite shirt?

My Snufflin' Around snuffleupagus t-shirt. Or my Goonies shirt with the Jolly Roger on it. Both mutilated by cat claws but still my favorites.
Do you listen to your granny's admonition and make sure you're wearing your "good" underwear when you go out in case you're in an accident? I learned it doesn't matter what undies one wears, if they're in an accident, they're going to be wrecked!

No, but I wear my 'good' underwear when I go to a meeting where I know I need attitude though. I'm a woman with a 'man's' job and only a 4 year degree surrounded by MBAs. They're paying me well for my experienced and honest opinion, that's what they are going to get! What is your favorite chore to do around the house, be specific (but G rated!). Weed your front garden? Put away clean dishes? Feed your dog?

my favorite chore is ironing. I know, I'm weird.
did you do anything new this weekend? (I'm looking for ideas for fun things to try out...)

I liked ironing. I used to do my dad's shirts and hankies and watch TV. It was nice and mindless. Now I only iron for weddings and funerals so that will be in December.
I take it you didn't go to Sail Boston over the weekend. This time of year is a good one to wander around the North Shore. Traffic doesn't usually suck too much if you don't go to the beach. But it helps to know backroads and I know them all. You can make a stop at my house and do my yard work. I'll let you. Or we can force Cael and GRG here and have a cookout. I have a lake and a non-leaky toilet now!
For those that have tattoos, where and what was the pain level for that location? Private areas I do NOT need to know about. Plumber had some nice work on his arms and I'd like to get some, eventually, but curious to pain levels although my threshold is digustingly high.

I've got 8 tattoos on my left arm, and the most sensitive was the outline on the inner part of my forearm (so, the pinky finger side). Felt like a razor blade, but I've been told it doesn't hurt as bad as childbirth. (Added: I've heard the rib cage and on top of the foot are the most painful.) Do you consider your birthday to be special, or is it just any other day to you?

I'm totally a spoiled brat, my birthday is a party weekend. I'll own it. answering empress - I have one tat, on the top of my foot down near the toes. and yes Iggy, that was rather unpleasant to sit through. although, I'm told that if I survived that one, I can deal with anything. I haven't yet tested that theory, and I'm not likely to ever do so. I did not go to Sail Boston this weekend, and somehow managed to miss all of the Tall Ships that passed through the canal on their way up to Boston, too. oops. Q: what strategy works best for you when trying to reign in your spending?

My biggest problem with spending is the nickel and dime stuff - a visit to Starbucks here, a trip to the vending machine there, etc. Nothing I really need, and mostly just something to deal with boredom or stress (which is also why it's almost always food related - I eat when I'm bored or stressed). So for me, being part of the No Spend/Controlled Spend board really helps. I am goal and accomplishment oriented, so setting myself a goal of having X number of No Spend days a month is really helpful to me, and gives me the willpower to resist the vending machine because I want my NSD. The other thing I do is that when bored (or stressed), I try to go take a walk if I can, or find another way to distract myself. It is healthier for both my waistline and my wallet. (One of which is too fat while the other is too skinny.)
As I ponder the possibility that I will be offered the CA job, if you were moving out of state, and selling a house in your current state, would you look to buy right away in your new location, or would you want to rent for a while first? Does having pets change that equation for you?

I would want to rent for at least a few months to find out what area I would want to live in. Or, if that wasn't an option (pets), I'd hopefully be able to visit the area for a week before (well before) the move, get input from future coworkers, friends in the area, whatever I could to see what it was like before buying something. I live in a small town, and we have good areas and bad areas, and sometimes those areas are just living on a different side of the block. So, moving to a new place I'd want the best info I could get. Tattoo-- one on my back, one on my hip. Honestly, I could have taken a nap through either of them (and almost did with the one on my back, but I was afraid of jerking right when I dozed off and causing a big mistake-- you know that big jerk when you're falling asleep and feel like you need to jump or something..?) Spending-- I try to focus on my goals. However, I was just about to start a new thread on the boards, since I decided to blow most of the money I earned working unexpected OT yesterday I've been keeping an actual budget for almost two years now (YNAB), and looking at the balances there also helps. I keep some fun money in the budget, as well as some cash on hand that I do not have to account for anywhere, and that helps to keep the urges to spend under control. Something new over the weekend-- I tried a new candy (macha green tea kit kats), that I bought from a new-to-me Asian market, and I quilted a block that had five pieces/seams meet in the middle (most I've done is four). What is your favorite meal to order at a restaurant?

plan myself. I know my preferences for travel, and I can find my way around booking sites easily enough.
do you bring reading material when you think you'll be in the bathroom awhile? (one previous job, this one guy took a full newspaper in with him!)

The local daily newspaper if one is handy. And, unlike your co-worker, chiver78 , it takes only the one page of comics. Any July 4th weekend plans?

I have been the person to do the store run to get more food. Not sure if that counts or not.
Are you a fireworks fan? I think they are beautiful, but the noise upsets my dogs terribly.

I love them!. Our new home is located next to the mesa from where we usually watch the annual display. I'm hoping this year we can ride the ATVs over. Our neighbors to the south of us put about half dozen small flags along their fence for the upcoming holiday. Do you notice more people doing so as July 4th approaches?

Haa Ha! no way. not in the area I live in. no Flags are up anywhere. however, there might be a car or two that would have a temporary Flag on the back window. the only thing that does happen. as July 4th gets closer. people shoot off their own fireworks. in the streets and backyards.
Question: is July 4th as fun and colorful as the Christmas season decorations with lighted homes?

Nope. We do have one house on the lake that has a flag lit up in perpetuity. I can't remember if the homeowner is a vet or had a child in the service. I should find that article.
Do you have a 4 day weekend for the 4th? My company is closed for the Monday and Tuesday. Does me no good because I'm working both days but I'm getting holiday for it so yippee for that paycheck.

I am one of very few people I know who is taking Monday off. Am looking forward to cooking and baking in my new kitchen, and not coming off the mountain for any reason. How far in advance do you schedule your vacation and days off?

depends which we are talking about. my annual music cruise is already booked, and as soon as the time off spreadsheet for 2018 is created, the dates will be in there. they are already blocked out on my Outlook calendar.
random days off? usually that week, or within the month.
do you prefer to use your PTO for random days here and there, or for larger chunks of vacation at once?

A combination. At least once a year, I do like to take a full week off, but most of the time, I use it for long weekends throughout the year, extra time at holidays, etc.
There are now companies that offer "unlimited" vacation - meaning they don't have vacation days, you just request any time off you want from your supervisor, and if it's approved, it's paid. If your employer had a policy like this (no vacation hours listed on your pay stub, in your employee info, etc), would you take advantage or not take vacation at all?
