One of our board members that I work closely with turned 40 this past April and found out she was pregnant in June. She is not very happy about it. She was told she couldn't get pregnant and she and her husband never wanted kids. She has a very demanding job, on several boards in her spare time, races cars on the weekends for fun, and has 5 big dogs. She was very happy with her life and now not so much. Everybody keeps telling her what a blessing it is, that she is just in shock and she will soon be thrilled. She is due in Feb and still not excited one bit. Personally, I am not so sure how this is going to turn out but at least the husband seems more excited and has agreed to be a SAHP. She makes about 200K a year in a low cost of living area so it definitely makes sense for him to stay home.
I do find it interesting that everyone keeps trying to convince her that she is going to be happy. Maybe she will and maybe she won't. I personally don't try to convince people of things. I have been positive by saying things like it's great your husband wants to stay home, etc. but I am not one of those who feels the need to TELL someone else what they personally are going to feel or what their life is going to be like.

I can't imagine being really happy in her situation either. I guess adoption wasn't an option?

She actually didn't tell anyone she was pregnant until she was 5 months along though most of us had figured it out. When she told me she said "I bet everyone thinks wow she is getting fat." Eh, not exactly. She weighs about 115 pounds and only her stomach was getting big. I am not sure who she thought she was fooling... maybe she was just trying to fool herself.

What? You mean it's not normal for a woman to gain 15 pounds all in her uterus?

OK, I need to stop reading this thread. My 2.5 yr old got to my birth control pills last week and I am now missing a few..... Reading about all the unexpected pregnancies just made me faint a little Did he eat them? I'd be worried what female hormones would do to a little boy...

There aren't enough hormones in BC pills to do any kind of damage. They're only designed to last 24 hours. He'll pee most of it out. He'd have to consume massive amounts over a long period of time for anything to happen.

I'm sure he's fine, but if he turns out to be gay she's going to spend the rest of her life wondering.

I remember a House episode where an 7 year old girl was hiding bloody clothes in her room (got her period way early and didn't know what it meant), her 12 year old brother was acting violent in school. They traced it to their dad's use of androgel (trying to keep up with younger girlfriend). I think of that episode when commercials for the stuff come on and they go through the side effects.

Birth control pills and androgel aren't the same thing. Plus House is a television show, they tend to take creative license when it comes to a lot of things.

Yeah, I realize they're not the same thing. The side effects that showed up in House are mentioned in the ad though.

I occasionally hyperventilate about an ooops baby. DH had his vasectomy five years ago, but the dr said they can still fail. He finally agreed to get it retested this fall when I said I was thinking of getting my tubes tied just for added insurance. It's always best to humor the neurotic woman. ;D
A friend of mine just had a baby (on purpose) when her previous two kids are in elementary school. I couldn't even pretend to be happy for her. And now of course she is bitching up and down about lack of sleep, not being able to volunteer in classrooms, etc. I don't have any sympathy (yes I'm a bitch).

Some of them, but Androgel wouldn't make a female start her menstural cycle because that's due to estrogen/progesterone.
Androgel is a male hormone therapy. It'd make a woman grow body hair, a deeper voice and perhaps delay menstration, not the other way around.
Birth control pills aren't hormone therapy. The amount of hormones in a single pill or even a month's worth is extremely small. That's why if you miss a pill or two you're screwed. There's not enough hormones in them to affect you unless you're taking them consistently on a regular basis.

Also not to freak anyone out but normal age for puberty is 8-13. So while 7 is a little early it isn't off the charts.

Reading about all the unexpected pregnancies just made me faint a little Once you decide you are done making babies the thought of an oops is horrifying. I chose to stop when I was 23 and had my tubes tied. DD2 will be 21 next week and has a 1 year old of her own. I've heard stories of women who've had tubals becoming pregnant 10-15-20 years after the fact. If I were to find out mine had failed after all this time, I'd have to be committed. DGD wears me out, but hte idea of having a baby at 44 when I have a 27, 23, and 21 year old plus a grandchild...............
