I have had two kids. Guess I was just lucky. Rule of thumb was basically ten pounds and it was pretty close for both. I'm not talking 13 hour sleep schedules but most nights were 7-8 hours by then.

Until DS was 18 months old we lived in Alaska, my parents lived in Minnesota and the In-Laws lived in Tennessee. So we never had anyone stay overnight with DS. Even after we moved to Minnesota it was rare the my folks would keep DS overnight. They were both working regular full time jobs and that. Now they get stuck with my nieces and nephews all the time.
As a teenager I thought I had the greatest babysitting gig ever. My next door neighbor was a Doctor and his wife was a stay at home mom. They had 5 kids. Every month or so she would leave and spend the weekend at a hotel by herself. If the Doc was on call so was I. So I got paid to hang out at home in the event he got called in to the hospital. But as a teenager I didn't really understand why she would go to the hotel by herself.
Years later we found out that she was suffering from severe depression that got worse with each pregnancy. She eventually committed suicide when the youngest was 5 or 6 years old.

Archie- Congrats Dark- we were told by the pediatrician to give DS some Benedryl before our red eye midnight flight from Anchorage to Minneapolis. Um, yeah that was a disaster. We didn't realize that he had the same genetic screw up as my mother. Things like Benedryl and NyQuil actually make him hyper. So yeah- 18 month old bouncing off the walls in the airplane for the entire 5 hour flight in the middle of the night. Everyone else was trying to sleep and they were not amused on bit. I felt so bad for the other passengers.

A two month old should be close to sleeping through the night. (Sorry. I'm easily amused since I'm sleep deprived.) My baby is 7 months. She generally wakes between 2 and 4 for a feeding, and then won't really eat until 10 or noon. If you have any suggestions on how to control when my baby gets hungry and when she doesn't, let me know. She's also been pulling herself up for about a month now and creeping for the last 2 weeks. Given how quickly she's worked through her other physical milestones, she'll be walking by 9 months. Got any suggestions on how I can make her stop that? My other two slept 12 hours by 2.5 months. Same parents. Same genetic material. Same parenting styles.

If you have any suggestions on how to control when my baby gets hungry and when she doesn't, let me knowYou need to jsut tell taht baby she doesn't need to eat and that is that. Stand your ground now otherwise she'll grow up to be a Coach toting welfare rat. All those sleep charts are still based on formula fed babies. Formula is denser than breastmilk so they need less of it to feel full faster. Breastfed babies are different, breastfed babies don't generally start sleeping thru the night till 4-6 months because they still need nighttime feedings.

They actually typically don't go without a night feeding until 9-12 months.
Giramom - Hugs! 7 to 9 months was the worst for me with DS because he was suddenly back up to 2 feedings in the middle of the night after doing only one from 5 to 7months. Then he suddenly slept through the night when he was 9 months old. It was like a switch got completely flipped. I hope your LO finds that switch soon.

I am a huge sleep training advocate and had to do it for my DS to fall asleep at night. But my experience with my child was that there was nothing in the world that would get him to fall asleep if he was hungry. He also went to bed at between 6 and 6:30pm at that age. Usually less than an hour after I got home from work. He was a hot mess in regards to sleep either way. But he would not nap after 3pm. No way. He did best if he was in bed by 6:30 even if that meant I didn't get to see him that much or he was up twice a night.

He did best if he was in bed by 6:30 even if that meant I didn't get to see him that much or he was up twice a night. I should say I didn't do it at once by a long shot! It was done over maybe a month stretching their time between feedings by maybe 15 minutes a night. They were also both almost 10 lbs at birth. They just eventually got to the point that they didn't wake up since there was no longer that expected feeding to set their clock by. They would still have the occaisional blow out. And when I was doing it they did cry like they were dying of starvation! It probably also helped that I didn't have two little ones at once. I don't know, because I never did it that way. We also didn't share the night duty when either was little. DH had a job that required him to be up early andbe fully alert. It just wasn't feasable to have him getting up at night. And since I BF's when they were little it wouldn't have actually gotten me that much extra sleep anyway.

My kids are 14 months apart. I was shocked both times I found out I was pregnant -- all of my home tests for DD were negative so when I didn't get my period for the 2nd month in a row I went to the doctor. The shock with DS was because it happened so quickly after DD. My Mom and MIL lived within 20 minutes of us when the kids were young and I was happy not to have them around, honestly. DD is the in-laws first grandkid and MIL would drop by at all hours if she "happened to be in our neighborhood". I understood why she wanted to come by, but it would screw up whatever plans I had for the day. My first was my difficult child (still is! ). If I had DS first I might have gone for 3; since I scheduled my spaying at my 6 week follow-up appointment I didn't give myself time to find out how laid back a baby could be! DD was a needy baby so I had mentally prepared myself for keeping up with sleepless nights et all and it turned out that he wasn't nearly as much work as she was. All I knew was that I had been pregnant or nursing for the majority of the previous 2 years and I was DONE with it all! I don't regret stopping at two, though.

Carl actually got me thinking if I was partially Haitian...I've used q-tips dipped into cognac and then squized excess of it and rub baby's gum with it. Worked as a charm!

Also, sleeping throught he night is defined as 5 hours without waking up.

He works nights. I work days. I had the same thing going on when my DD was born. Does he leave right when you are back? What about weekends? Is there really NO WAY to figure out how to grab a few hours for yourself? I can't believe it and frankly I don't think anyone can.

Congrats, Archie! I must have also been the meanest or the luckiest. Disposables, the good kind, keep them reasonably diaper rash free and I don't consider 5 hours sleeping through the night. 7-8 is thru the night. Glad my kids were smart enough to know I couldn't undergo hours of labor or months without sleep!
