No one said you are an idiot; but just stating a fact: Parents tend to make parenthood sound easier than it is.Why do you think so many women suffering from postpartum depression are so ashamed and afraid to come out: Because so many women out there are screaming to the world that they should be happy, grateful, this is the best moment of their lives and feeling any other way is WRONG! They do?? I thought everyone made parenthood sound harder than it is?? How many studies have there been about the "costs of parenthood" and all the stressful decisions - when to have kids, SAH vs working, BF vs bottle, co-sleep vs. crib, discipline, etc.... Really parenting isn't that difficult, people of done it for 1000's of years, only in the last 30-40 years have we been told we're doing it all wrong ;-) Only because the baby boomers f-ed us all up. Parents today are back on the right path.

I am pretty much in the camp of not wanting to have another second. It's almost worse saying that than saying you don't want any at all. I don't remember getting near this much flack about kid #1.
I bet if I had two kids and wanted a third one people would be asking me if I understood how babies are made.
You can't win.

Dude, I'm 42 years old and I have a 5 year old and a 6 year old, and I'm attempting to run a business. Another child is not what I need right now.

I cried, and it wasn't tears of happiness. And we had been trying for 3 years. THAT didn't make any! freaking! sense! Why have you been trying? Oh, you were trying NOT to have a child for 3 years? Now its all makes sense...

You should tell them your deep burning desire is to be Michelle Duggar, do they want to help because your DH said he's stopping at 2.

Parenting isn't just the first 20 years of the child's life. Parents are still parents until the day they die. Adult children can be good or bad for the parents. A handicapped child might still be dependent for life so the parents never enjoy the financial freedoms and freedom from worry. A typical child will be a friend to the parents for decades then help them in old age if needed.
My mom is 86 and has enough money but without us kids she would be alone in the world. She hated our childhood almost had a nervous breakdown and was broke for 20 years. She probably shouldn't have had children at all. But we have been pretty good kids the last 45 years. She has gotten grand kids and great grand kids. She had one son move in for 10 years then now lives with another for 3-4 years so she isn't alone. Her 4th grandchild has offered to help her with her diabetes classes and others she sees about every week. I take her shopping. So over the 65 years she has been a mother it has evened out the bad with some good.

LOL. DS is a much easier kid than DD. He's so laid back, content and happy most of the time. She is a good girl, but more high demand. But juggling both of them is much harder than I thought it would be. If he was a difficult baby, I'd probably be tearing my hair out.
We are done with two. Part of me would like to have a third, but we're done.

Hey Now! You aren't supposed to take kids to Rock Concerts? Oops. Better go home and apologize to the Kid. He has seen quite a few people in concert. In fact we get pissed when it's an "over 18" show because that means he can't come with us. It's probably bad when we reminisce about concerts and is asks if "Jimmy Buffet was the one with the bad weed" Seriously FYI- Buffet pot smokers go for total skunk weed. Jack Johnson and Tom Petty fans tend to spring for the good stuff. My kids are 5 and 6, I'll take them to a concert now, but I wouldn't take them as infants. This summer I saw Kiss and Motley Crue. Lots of people brought their 5 to 10 year olds and dressed them up in full Kiss regalia. It was awesome. I saw a whole bunch of little girls dressed up like hookers at a Lady Gaga concert.

Two kids isn't that bad. As long as there are two parents in the household. It's when the little buggers outnumber you that everything goes to hell.

OK, that's freaky. A 5 year old in a black sweatsuit with a made up face is cute.

For the record we didn't start taking the Kid to concerts and things until he was probably 7 or 8. That whole "have a 2nd one and you'll realize how easy the first one was" is exactly why we only have the one. My uncles were talking one day and comparing stories. They were firmly of the opinion that if they had had the 2nd child first they'd only have one kid. Because in all of their cases they claim the first was an angel compared to the 2nd. PS- Sorry Muttley

I know I'm going to get looks when I take 11 year old to Santaland diaries friday... You think if I just tell them all to suck it, they'll stop worrying about what language they might pick up during the play?

You also seem to know an inordinate number of people who ask you for business and financial advice, so I'm going to take that comment with a grain of salt.......
