O' Brother Where Art Thou was the least objectionable of the Coen Brothers' movies, but it's still boring and longer than it needs to be - and this coming from a major fan of the Odyssey.
AI had 5 different endings. If they could have ended it once, it might have been tolerable. But it is now our inside joke for when something goes on too long.

I didn't like Kill Bill the first time I saw it. I watched both several times before I "got it" and liked them.
I don't like Pulp Fiction.
Inglorious Bastards is really good. Extremely bloody but that was one of the few QT movies I've liked and liked right off the bat.

For me, movies have to a. make me laugh out loud b. make me cry c. make me walk out of the theatre going omg what did we just see, and what was the deeper meaning....and talking about said movie for at least another hour or two with whoever i just saw it with When they can do all three...it is a special movie in my eyes Special affects are cool....but not enough to make me want to see a movie...i do want and NEED a good story line also Some of the disaster movies like Armeggedon fit that....others not so much...think "the core" But we all have our own opinions on what makes a "good" movie, and what makes us go ?? My favorite of all time has no special affects at all "Twelve angry men" is moviemaking at it's finest....original please...not the remake

I'm not really into the medieval/science fiction genres (except for the REALLY bad Syfy movies - e.g. Mega Shark v. Giant Octopus), so take my 'meh' movies for what they're worth. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter (all), Star Wars (all). Didn't like The Matrix or the second one. Also didn't like the Shining, although it was one of the more accurate adaptations of a King book. Or the Jason Bourne movies. <<dons flamesuit>> I hated the Bourne movies too, but to be fair I only watched the 1st one. They could make 8 movies of the first book alone and to watch it compressed like that was sad. When I found out they killed off the wife in the next movie that was the end of it for me. It was a passable movie as long as you'd never read any of the books. I like the Shining because you can't beat Jack Nicklaus for crazy

The Royal Tenenbaums. I only saw an hour and I wanted to claw my eyes out. I love that movie! I think it is hysterical. ;D And as for Titanic, what I loved about the movie was this: as I watched, I was hoping for them to NOT hit the iceburg, even though I know they did. I was hoping they would fill the lifeboats, even though I knew they wouldn't. I was hoping that help would come, even though I knew no help was coming. So in my view, the movie is really about YOU, the viewer, and your unsinkable hope that everything will be OK. I think it is beautiful, and one of the very finest qualities we possess.

Shanendoah- I loved the original True Grit, but the remake isn't bad. The girl who plays Mattie did a GREAT job.
To be honest, I didn't like the Harry Potter movies. Sure, they're a bit of fun, but the acting is terrible (the kids, not most of the teachers) and they're based on books that were poorly written. Yeah, you can't bring people back to life Harry, except when we use the time turner, which we will use to save Buckbeak...

Yeah, you can't bring people back to life Harry, except when we use the time turner, which we will use to save Buckbeak... Ahh, but Beakbuck never actually died. The slamming of the axe that was heard was into the fence post after Harry and Hermione had already freed him, not him getting killed. So his fate had already been decided before Harry and Hermione had even thought (or had Dumbledore suggest) about using the timeturner. Buckbeak never died so they never brought him back to life. Yes, I have read the books and watched the movies a few times a lot. The early movies aren't very good (especially the kids' acting), but I really loved the last four or so. The kids got good, the movies got darker, and the way they adapted the books to the screenplays were very good (for the most part). I was on a musical kick last year, so I will blaspheme some classics. I didn't like Funny Girl or Funny Face. Rex Harrison made My Fair Lady because I have discovered that I don't really care for Audrey Hepburn (including Breakfast at Tiffany's and she didn't sing in My Fair Lady, she was dubbed over - why not cast Julie Andrews who can REALLY sing and originated the role on Broadway?!?!)

Cabaret. I think Liza Minnelli is a good Sally but overall compared to the actual stage play it SUCKS.

I loved AI. It was so sad. And no Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction or any QT movie. I don't have the stomach for them. I am with you... not a QT movie fan. Kind of funny but I actually didn't go out on a 2nd date with a guy in college because he LOVED Pulp Fiction. On our 1st date he mentioned he had seen Pulp Fiction 8 times. Okay, crazy that he paid to see any movie at the theater that many time but when he said it I had not actually seen the movie. A few days later my friend and I went to see it and I thought it was one of the worst movies ever. In my mind there was just no way I could date someone who had paid to see that movie 8 times so that was the end of that... Oh, and that whole story line with Bruce Willis was just absolutely ridiculous!!

Anyone say Twighlight? Can't stand them.
I'll also throw in Howard the Duck. What the heck?

Ugh No Country for Old Men was another boring movie. I don't know how half these movies win Oscars. See I thought that was an AMAZING movie. The villian was such a perfectly creepy psycho. The sceen where he's coming down the hall in the old hotel and you see his feet under the door way when he stops in front of the door where the guy with the suitcase of money is - I know it's very slow and quiet, but that's what makes it perhaps the most menacing movie sceen I've seen in years.

I would add to the list: and any Coen Brothers movie (no, I haven't seen their True Grit remake, but as someone who loves the original and can't stand the Coen brothers, I doubt I'd like it) I O' Brother Where Art Thou! Love the Coens. Loved "Raising Arizona", "Fargo" and "O Brother." It's amazing to me how they do some great comedy and then turn around and do a nail biting drama like No Country.

Worst famous movie for me - Gone With the Wind - I HATE Scarlett O'Hara. The South is burning down around her and she's sitting there sulking over her fancy clothes and bar b ques - and the stereotypes of black people as devoted family slaves. Please.

I thought the book was good, but Scarlett does only care about herself and that really bothered me. What REALLY bothered me about the movie was Ashley Wilkes - seriously the dude playing him was like 45 and Ashley was supposed to be 16/17!!! Rhett Butler was supposed to be older so Clark Gable was a good choice (but even he looked younger than Ashley Wilkes!)! WTF casting people?!

She's 15 and uneducated (as ladies should be) at the start of the movie. She is a spoiled, pampered child with no responsibilities one moment, and the person her entire extended family is relying on in the next. She does things which make her a social pariah, such as field work, and orders those in her charge to do the same. She's a survivor. LOVE Scarlett O'Hara.

I LOVE the movie. It stayed very true to the book which depicted a totally different era of the Civil War. In the book all her slaves ARE devoted to the plantation in the beginning. After the war is over though, only a handful of the devoted ones remain. One thing I like about the book and the movie was that it never tried to portray Scarlett as a martyr. She has her flaws, she is mean and she bears the consequences of it.

The villian was great in the movie, but I couldn't get past the stupidity of the entire situation. I rarely can get thru all three hours of Gone with the Wind, but if it is on TCM I will stop to see if they are at the part where Atlanta burns down. I consider that one of the best moments in movie history.

Scarlett did whatever she deemed necessary to ensure her family would never be hungry again. And she did what was necessary to keep a roof over their heads. She had no use for the stubborn "Southern Pride" of her peers that kept them in poverty and did business and socialized with the Yankees as a means to an end. I will say the book was much, much better than the movie IMHO. And for the life of me I never understood what she saw in Ashley - he was such a wimp.

I didn't get it either! My best guess is that she was attracted to him because he was unavailable.

She did not see him as a wimp at the beginning of the book. They were still very young then and led an extremely privileged life. His refusal of her and his subsequent marriage to Melanie brought out the worst in Scarlett. Till then she had never been refused anything so attaining the unattainable became her ultimate goal. As the book progressed the Ashley character worsened (or came out, as you see it). Such a wimp. What can I say. I love that book

The sequel by Alexandra Ripley is also very good. I love how it picked up characters on the fringes of the story in the first book. She really did it justice, IMO.
