...someone I know is trying to decide between a traditional wedding ring or something unique... I've given her a few ideas, but you all should come up with some good ones... ...so, what have you seen/worn that you liked, and why?

Diamond as big as a marble.
On a serious note, some people I know have taken their parents or grandparents diamonds and had them reset. DH has a ring that we used the gold from his grandmothers rings to make.

My wedding ring is a simple band of titanium. I love it, because practically nothing I can do to it has the ability to damage it.

Were I ever to marry, I would like a claddagh somehow incorporated. But if your friend isn't of Irish heritage, likely not her thing.

For me, it was REALLY important that it was comfortable. Mine is a WIDE gold band with a diamond. It doesn't flop around on my finger - that would drive me nuts.

<<< But if your friend isn't of Irish heritage, likely not her thing. >>> ...actually, she may like it... they didn't get a ring because of the budget, but now they have more than enough to "do it up proper" but what to do? and it almost begs the question, why bother?

My brother and his wife had gold puzzle rings with a diamond made for their wedding bands.. similar to this one....I thought they were so unique.

Some random waitress at some random restaurant in my husband's home town had her husband make us simple silver bands. Nice and cheap (free actually) and they show wear and tear I love 'em.

When we got married I had a simple gold band, hubby also got a plain gold band. He can't wear a ring at work and thru the years, his ring has been just sitting in my jewerly box. When my gramma passed away, I was given her 50th anniversary ring (my aunt got her wedding rings). It's much much more ring than hubby & I could have ever afforded. I started wearing it as my wedding ring and hubby had no problem with it. He's joked that when we hit our 50th he'll buy me a new one. I wear my gold band everyday and when we go out, I wear my gramma's ring.

I designed my engagement and wedding ring and had them made. That might be something they'd like to think about. They can come up with several designs they think they might like, then talk to the jeweler about them to see which would be most likely to fit without spinning and be comfortable to wear.

I have a wide, gold band that tapers thinner around my finger. The band is also concave. And I have a 1 1/2 ct. diamond set in the center of the widest part of the band. I love my ring. DH has the concave wide band all the way around with no diamond.

When he proposed, my wonderful DH gave me a gorgeous white gold diamond ring ... the center stone is just over a carat, and it's got 9 channel-set diamonds on either side of the center stone. Very sparkly. For "every day" wear, I've got a white gold band with 7 channel-set diamonds in it that he bought me in 2009 in Maui ~ it's also very sparkly. (I like white gold)

My engagement ring has three center stones all oval cut with four baguette stones running down each side of the center stones. My wedding band has baguettes all across the top. Very pretty and I really love them.

I like the raw uncut diamond rings, but I couldn't get my wife to like it. Maybe next time Attachments:

My gf is wearing her grandmother's ring. She died as we were discussing getting married and left the ring to her. It's exactly her style and she actually gave me a photo of it when we were discussing what kind of ring she'd like. She didn't like the idea of wearing 2 big diamonds around and didn't want her grandmother's ring to end up in a jewelry box unworn so she decided she wanted to wear that and I got her a diamond necklace and earrings.
I'm pretty sure my wedding ring will be the simplest thing we can find since I don't plan on wearing it.

I like a simple thin gold band. When we were looking at something for my wife she picked out a simple band with a fourth (?) carrot stone. I know nothing about diamond btw. Anyway I brought up the subject of upgrading the diamond about 10 years ago. She quickly told me that it would cost an arm & a leg to upgrade it with the same quality diamond (it's yellow) & that she was very happy with what she had.
My mother has already told my wife that she will get her rings when she passes. Mom has a Citroen (?) ring (I think that's what it's called) that probably pretty valuable because of the size of stone it has (when worn the stone goes way past the knuckles on each side of it). To me it looks like a cheap ring because it's so huge but my wife knew that it was a real stone right off.

My marriage to deceased hubby was with plain gold wedding bands. At about 20 years I found a set that went beautifully with the band.
Hubby #2 both of us have a gold band with beading on the edges, and my engagement ring is a 1 karat princess cut diamond with 8 smaller princess cut diamonds in a step channel setting. The only time I wear the engagement ring is at church. I'm too afraid of losing the diamond.
As you look around at stores and glancing at what others are wearing, you will find the right style for you. Good luck and have fun looking.

I went traditional: I have a plain platinum band and a 3/4 ct solitaire for my engagement ring. DH bought his ring off the back of a truck (seriously!). He rarely wears his though because of his work.

My engagement ring is 3 stones, a .7 carat in the middle surrounded by 2 .4 carat stones. The wedding band is a thin gold band with a ridge in the middle, and 7 or 8 small inset diamonds. DH never wears his ring, which is just a plain gold band.
That must be a clue he's cheating on me. ;P

. DH is on wedding ring number 3 or 4 (he keeps losing them) and this time he went with a silver band with brushed silver on the outer edges and shiny in the middle. Clues your DH is cheating on you.
