And Baptist also attend church Wednesday evenings, right? Better add that in there too!! So it looks like you can run your errands from 10-noon or 1-3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

And this country was founded on the belief of Christianity. One God. One Nation. And just to make sure I say the most unpopular thing in the world. the one thing that has done the biggest amount of damage to this country is taking God out of our schools, homes, and even churches. I remember when praying was the most normal thing to do. Now if you bow your head in public someone wants to cry they're offended. Well be offended. This country needs to get back to it's roots. And back God. BS. This country was founded on slavery too. And all of those "decent Christians" were just fine with that. I notice you didn't answer my question. If working on Sunday is so awful, why are there so many football games? I don't notice SMU refusing to play on the Sabbath. You are welcome to do whatever you like in your own home and even your own community. But please stop trying to blame all the world's problems on the fact that not everyone accepts your limited definition of God. And Lily, no one cares if you pray in public. I pray in public. What I don't do is require other people to pray with me, require them to pray my way or go out of my way to make a big deal of my praying in public. I was raised to believe that was the Pharisee way.

"And this country was founded on the belief of Christianity."
It was? There's actually a neat little excerpt from the late 1700's in some treaty with another country where it actually states specifically that the United States was NOT founded on Christianity.
The whole "this country was founded on Christianity" always seems to be spouted by people who don't actually know history. Just because the founding father's last names weren't Englestein or Mahatmou doesn't mean they believed in Christianity itself, or that even if they did that they thought the government should be founded on Christian beliefs.
"This country needs to get back to it's roots."
Slavery? Abusing native cultures? Giving women less rights than men? Which roots exactly? Just the ones you want?

I go to church on the Sundays when I want to be there - not because someone thinks I should be there. I can just as easily pray or seek guidance from my own home as I can sitting in a pew - and I can do it any day or time of the week if I choose (or choose not to). Some people go to church just to be seen - which to me is hypocritical.

OK, fine, but the delis that make their own bagels have to stay open all the time. I can bake, but as a bagel maker, I suck. It's easier to buy really good ones.

Not to mention Washington's letter to the NY synagogue where he specifically states there is no official religion. I don't know how much more clear the Founding Fathers had to be.

There are way too many godless heathens ganging up on Lily in here.
So last night I had this crazy dream. This androgynous angel dude showed up and led me through a series of weird visions, trumpets and seals, some hot chick in a sexy little red number, this crazy monster thing with a bunch of heads, it was trippy. Haven't had dreams like that since I was on the nicotine patch. Anyway, I got up and ready for work but as I was leaving the house I noticed one of the shrubs out front was on fire. Before I could even process that and run to get the hose it started talking to me. It said the Lords day is Sunday and if I don't spend that day in church or sitting around at home I'm going to burn in a lake of fire for all eternity after I die. Needless to say, I don't have to be told twice.
I'm writing a letter to my congressmen and senators now to get them to pass a law requiring everyone to sit on their butts on Sunday.
Don't worry Lily, I got your back.

Perhaps it never occurred to them that the lines between Church and State would ever get so blurred.

Dark, was that you? Make jokes if you want, but I'm serious. God talked to me. He told me his will and now it's my job to impose that on the rest of you for own benefit. I'm trying to help you.

Sorry chicka, no can do. You have to open yourself up to the holy spirit and hope some angel dude shows up to guide you. Also, be on the lookout for burning stuff and see if it talks to you.

God talked to me through a burning bush and a trippy dream, he didn't give me weird X-Men mental powers. Geez. Let's try to keep our heads in reality here.

Pfffft. This from a man with KIDS.
OT...you mentioned a nicotine patch. I assume that was to help you quit smoking (as opposed to actually inducing trippy dreams on purpose). Congrats on that.

Hold the congrats actually. I kind of fell off the wagon a little recently. I'm still not a smoker though damnit. I went from New Years Eve up until this Saturday without a smoke. I'm having my couple days of stupidity and then it's right back on the wagon for me. They aren't even enjoyable anymore. I bought my old brand and everything, but they taste like shit, I stink to high heaven, and they make me feel like crap. I'm smoking the last couple on my lunch break today. I'm weak.

You want to eat out on Sunday morning. You dont care who is at work as long you get what you want. some one has to work those jobs to keep you happy. Now personally I think if it went back to businesses closing on Sunday like they used to it wouldnt be an issue. But in those restaurant jobs if you want a pay check you work when you are told to. And I dont know anyone who can just leave a job these days. Has it ever dawned on you that people who work off schedules actually like having off on a Tuesday as opposed to Sunday? My hair dresser is off Thursday and Fridays and loves the fact that most stores are empty when she's running errands. My best friend has off Wednesdays and Sundays, but he enjoys his Wednesday off because that's "his" day all to himself. Not everyone fits into your idea of what should be. I don't believe in God, but I still try to not plan anything on Sunday because I like having one lazy day a week. But if I run out of cat food or mascara, or if I decide that I want to sit at a bar and drink, well, that's my choice.

Read the opening post to get the general idea - but in typical EE fashion, threads tend to veer off-topic pretty easily.

No, you're trying. My dad was a five-pack-a-day habit, Dark. He did it. You will, too. Success isn't necessarily a straight line. Aw, thanks, femme. And welcome. Don't worry about getting lost on EE. It's standard operation procedure here. Threads get started and get just a wee bit off track. Sometimes.

lexxy703, Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays also. We don't have Hobby Lobby here. Belk/Leggets was closed on Sundays too, but ours closed permanently a few years back.

It's a sad state of affairs when we've gone from burning witches at the stake, to burning steaks at the witch's house on the BBQ.
