This doesn't seem like an invasion of privacy any more than when you have to tell them how much money you make.

So, what happens when someone with children fails the drug test? The kids go into foster homes? Mom and the kids live on the street? Mom pimps the kids to feed her drug habit?
I am not necessarily against this as long as there is a plan for the kids well being, if not forget it, it is not going to fix anything.

They will probably snare a lot of senior citizens who test positive.

A whole new government agency will be needed to sort through all the tests and follow ups, appeals, etc...Rick Scott will be the only one benefiting from it.

Rick Scott is very sharp. It may cost taxpayers some big bucks, but his clinics will be hopping with drug testing.

Isn't he the guy who was implicated in the biggest Medicare fraud scheme in the history of the universe, and was fined almost 2 billion dollars? I don't know if I would use "sharp'. Sleazy, yes.

People play to their audiences. After all, if you suggested that the taxpayers be out a mint to treat illness, say by a big program called, "Obamacare," well, the fiscal conservatives would have a stroke. But, if you couch this in terms of catching people having illicit fun, well, they will be all over it to sign it into law as quickly as possible. The fact that innocent people would be caught in the dragnet or that even the guilty might be pushed into heinous behavior would not count. Can you say State Choice vs. Federal Mandate? There is an enormouse difference between the two.

I think what would happen is the benefits would be assigned to another "responsible adult" for the children...now not sure if the "responsible adult" will be drug tested also.

Are you invoking the old state mandates are not really government mandates because people can vote with their feet argument?

Chalk up another victory for the surveillance society and another blow against the privacy rights of all citizens, not just welfare applicants. You know if Billy Bob wants to sit on his back porch and smoke a little weed on his own dime thats his choice. what gave you that idea?

If the states of Florida and Kentucky want to try this, then I say let them try it. They may find that this program achieves the desired goals, or they may not.

No i am stating that States have certain rights like determining who can receive their aid and what the guidelines for receiving said aid should be. The federal government has no right to demand that I buy a product on the open market. can you see the difference?

Thank you FLORIDA and KENTUCKY!! Florida and Kentucky are the first states that will require drug testing when applying for welfare, effective July 1st. Some people are crying this is unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional? It's ok to drug test people who work for their money but not those who don't? Re-post this if you'd like to see this done in all 50 states Aw, man- just when I was having fun ripping the liberals up one side and down the other here... I understand the sentiment, I do. But I don't think the answer to the problems with welfare involve degrading and dehumanizing people any further than what soul-sucking welfare already does to them. I don't think a populace already trapped in dependency on governent should also be taught to submit and to obey government in an illegal search. No probable cause, no warrant. No warrant, no search. I don't want drug testing, road side "safey & sobriety" checks, TSA groping, or any of it. I think instead, the solution to welfare should be a lifetime limit, or cap. Here's how much welfare each American can apply for in their lifetime IF and when they meet the other criteria. No manipulation, no controls, no humiliating peeing in a bottle-- just here's what it is, when it's gone, it's gone for good, goodbye.

Since the expected rate of drug use among welfare applicants is 10% while the false positive rate for tests equals 10%, the chance that any particular positive result is correct is 50%,
toughtimes, you may want to review your math here & delete & re post.

I don't know if his initial %'s are accurate, but if they are, the 50% is correct. If you test 100 people and 10% are expected to test positive, you'll get 10 correct positive results. If the false positive rate is 10% you'll also get 10 false positives. 50% of the positives would be false ones. Edit - Sorry TT s/b her not his. My bad.

He was forced to resign over it. True. Because in the private sector at least the buck stops with the person at the top. I agree with the sentiment- it was his job to know.

Some insiders claimed he did know, Scott claimed he didn't and there was no hard proof to charge him, so....in the US he is innocent....

"The company he ran was. He was never personally implicated." Ah!! Well, I guess that means his hands were clean, huh? Are people having problems comprehending today? It means exactly what I said....that he was never implicated. I made no assumption what-so-ever about his guilt or innocence.

He was forced to resign over it. So if Obama's health bill comes to any fraud(which it will, just look at the other government plans), he should be forced to resign and is sleazy. I agree then bad Rick.
