...and stands by his rant. too bad you can't teach class, he could use a lesson. Rep. West does not back down from email attack on Wasserman SchultzFlorida Republican Rep. Allen West is not backing away from comments he made in an email sent to Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz Tuesday. West responded to Wasserman Schultz’s criticism of his support for the Republicans’ “cut, cap and balance” proposal by calling her “the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the U.S. House of Representatives.” Referring to West without specifically naming him, Wasserman Schultz called his support for the plan “unbelievable for a member from South Florida” because it “would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries.” West did not mince words in his email response to her, with a copy sent to House leadership. The subject line said it all: “Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman-Schultz.” In the email, he welcomed a personal fight and instructed her to focus on her “own congressional district!” (Leaders with Ginni Thomas: Rep. Allen West) “If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up….I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip and from this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior,” West wrote. “You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!” West added. Despite criticism, West is not backing down from his comments. Through a spokesperson, the congressman reiterated his initial comments. ETA: thread title adjusted to reflect merge including Congressman Wu and his poor judgment.

Despite criticism, West is not backing down from his comments. Wow...a politician standing by their words rather than pandering to every jackwagon out there that is "offended" by those words. Sure is a lot more refreshing than the PC bullshit apologies we see on a near daily basis these days.

But at least the guy isn't wasting our time holding a press conference to utter an empty apology for something he meant to say. Tacky...I agree.

Well when your blinders only allow you to see one side of it, then I guess it would seem tacky... Try looking into past dealings between the two and you will see classless, tacky behavior from Wasserman-Shultz since West's campaign days (with no apologiesm of course). Oh, but I forgot, she's a democrat so she's allowed to be a hypocritical jerk...

my 'blinders' as you put it come from years of experience in a male-dominated industry. I am not a politician, but that's a pretty historically male-dominated arena as well.
how's this for a double standard - if a man is aggressive, it's valued. if a woman's aggressive, she's a bitch.
so she's assertive in doing her job, which is fighting for stuff he doesn't like, and it's okay for him to insult her? that's not at all acceptable to me.

Poor Debbie ... sniff, sniff. How can she deal with such male aggression? That brute of a man! Doesn't he know he's supposed to stay in his place and take whatever she decides to dish out?

I see you still haven't looked into her past dealings with West...might I suggest you do so again and see how "acceptable" her actions have been towards the congressman. If anything, West should take a page from the Dems and question her obvious racist hatred towards the congressman.

But, people broadcast their stupidity all the time. Say something stupid that they meant 100% only to issue a hollow public apology at a later date that they don't mean. Why waste the time?

Here’s West’s e-mail response:
From: Z112 West, Allen
Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2011 04:48 PM
To: Wasserman Schultz, Debbie
Cc: McCarthy, Kevin; Blyth, Jonathan; Pelosi, Nancy; Cantor, Eric
Subject: Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman-Schultz
Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!
I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip and from this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior……which dates back to the disgusting protest you ordered at my campaign hqs, October 2010 in Deerfield Beach.
You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me! Steadfast and Loyal
Congressman Allen B West (R-FL)
Here’s a response from Wasserman Schultz spokesman Jonathan Beeton, which includes a dig at West for living in Wasserman Schultz’s district rather than his own:
“I don’t think that Congressman West is upset at the Congresswoman, but rather with the fact that she highlighted that he and other Republicans are once again trying to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class. As someone who lives in Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz’s Congressional district, Congressman West knows that we have hundreds of thousands of seniors in South Florida who have paid into Medicare throughout their lives and now rely on this program to keep them healthy and active.”
West spokeswoman Angela Sachitano reiterated her boss’s criticism this evening, saying Wasserman Schultz “took another cowardly cheap shot at Congressman West conveniently after he had just left the House floor…The constituents in Florida see Congressman West as a true leader and a man of principle while Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz is once again viewed as politics as usual, and her true character sadly shown today.”

I don't really know a whole lot about West since he's on the other side of the state, so I wasn't trying to insinuate he was a classy guy. I'm just saying, I like the "put your money where your mouth is" approach of standing behind your words. IMHO, it beats an empty apology that, in the end, means absolutely nothing.

A woman can be aggressive without being a bitch ~ but a bitch can't. A liberal talking about class is like a dung beetle talking about fragrance.

If the shoe fits, wear it. The current "liberal" techniques are those of "street toughs" ~ lying and threats. To some, class is the same as "low class" or no class at all. Dung beetles think dung is fragrant.

If the shoe fits, wear it. .... And when it doesn't, make sure that you tell the salesman who is trying to shove it onto your feet that he needs to learn not to attempt to sell the wrong shoe to people.

"Allen West's angry, hostile tirade to DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is truly despicable," Schriock wrote in an email on Tuesday. "If you had any doubt about the Republican war on women, look no further than West's email -- it's threatening, sexist and demeaning."
West, in the meantime, stands by his statements -- and is actively fighting rumors that he may have apologized to the congresswoman.
Reports of an apology are "absolutely false," says West spokeswoman Angela Sachitano, who added that added that "the Congressman is actually waiting on an apology from the DNC Chair."
Update: Five female Democratic members of Congress have released a letter calling on West to apologize and asking the GOP leadership to disavow his response. The signatories are Reps. Gwen Moore, Carolyn Maloney, Lois Capps, Donna Edwards and Jackie Speier. Read it below:
Dear Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Majority Whip McCarthy and Representative West:
We know that politics can get rough and that strong debate brings out many emotions. And as women, we are often held to a higher standard in public discourse.
News reports indicate that after last night's debate, Congressman Allen West sent a completely inappropriate and sexist e-mail in total disrespect of our colleague, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
By any objective viewing of her floor speech, she was well within the rules of decorum for our chamber. Yet, Mr. West's response was completely out of order and an offensive personal attack with a clearly sexist tone. We call on you to disavow this response in the strongest of terms.
We also call on Mr. West to immediately apologize to Ms. Wasserman Schultz and vow to keep debate about policy, not personalitywww.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20081173-503544.htmlSo now Mr Boehner has to deal with this along with the debt crisis...but if I were Mr Boehner I would not want a bunch of angry women calling for a congressman's scalp ...especially Congresswoman Jackie Speier who is one tough lady from the SF Bay area.. I think you will see Congressman West's office offer an apology to Ms Wasserman Schultz or else this thing can get very nasty IMHO

I'd like to think that Mr Boehner would be classy enough to call out poor taste, whether it was a formal apology from West or not.

Perhaps I'm confused and, chiver...maybe you can answer it for me....but why are people's panties in a twist about this? West said she wasn't acting liking like a Lady so he wouldn't treat her as such. Who F'n cares? Riddle me this: Is Wasserman-Schultz's character Lady-like in any way? A Lady is a respectful, nice person....this shoe does NOT fit Wasserman-Schultz so therefore his comment is correct. He's not saying she's a man or anything. He's saying she isn't acting as a Lady should. Boo Freakin' Hoo....cry me a river. He didn't call her a bitch, a whore, a slut, a (a)unt with a C. He said she wasn't a Lady.

Just to add to my previous post: Would you have the same OUTRAGE if Wasserman-Schultz said that West wasn't a Gentleman? She's not a Lady; He's not a Gentleman. Is this really an issue?

I don't know why being in the military would make him be like that---- "Allen West Refuses To Apologize, Blames Military Background For His Insulting Remarks | Facing a barrage of criticism, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) remains defiant and says he won’t apologize to DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for a disparaging email in which he called her “vile, unprofessional, and despicable” and “not a lady.” On Fox Business Network this morning, West said an apology is “not happening,” and then tried to blame his poor etiquette on the military. West, a veteran who was discharged from the Army for abusing an Iraqi, said “there are certain ways we talk in the military. I guess I haven’t learned the DC-insider talk.” As if basic civility is something only practiced inside the Beltway. Watch it: It’s insulting for West to attribute his behavior to an institution that places a premium on respect. In the same interview, West even tried to blame Wasserman Schultz for the incident, saying it was her decision to release the private tirade he sent to her to the media." thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/07/21/275196/allen-west-refuses-to-apologize-blames-military-background-for-his-insulting-remarks/

ugo, his military time has nothing to do with it. he's using it as an excuse to justify his lack of class.
to answer financialtexan - my panties aren't in a twist, thanks. I'm just posting an article that shows how not to conduct yourself in Congress. as I said in another reply - if you have to insult your opponent, you've already lost.
