There are cheaper options out there. My BC is only $70/ 3 months & I'm guessing there is stuff that is even cheaper. Out of curiousity I looked up a generic for Ortho tricylen & it was $50/3 months.

I am sure there are but I had to try many before I found one that worked really well for me. Severe PMS, mood swings, the whole nine. So I will stick with what works for me and keeps me tolerable to other people.

I wasn't saying you should get cheaper stuff, just saying if we are going to offer free stuff, then we should offer them the cheaper stuff. It would cost ~$15/month or less to prevent a pregnancy. Just the cost of labor alone is what $5K in a birth with no complications? Preventing 1 birth pays for almost 30 years of birth control without even considering the other costs the kid will place on the system. If woman have a need for the more expensive stuff for whatever reason, then they should probably be expected to pay a copay or the difference in price or something.

Preventing 1 birth pays for almost 30 years of birth control without even considering the other costs the kid will place on the system. Just looked up my daughter's birth. $5529 hospital bill - vag birth with no drugs & no complications, really can't get much cheaper. Of course, there was also a $2278 bill from my OB/Gyn & additional bills for the tests done during pregnancy, bills for all my daughters well-baby check-ups & vaccines. So, by the time her 1st year is over I am guessing she will cost ~10K in medical bills. That costs more than 50 years of cheap birth control given out free.

It's not only sexist to cover Viagra and not cover birth control. It's downright stupid! Personally, I believe diaphragms, implants, and other invasive forms of birth control should be covered, as well. I wouldn't yell too loud if condoms were covered, even though they're not invasive. If we want to do something constructive about the number of babies being born that shouldn't be born because the mother/parents can't afford them, it's a heck of a lot better to be proactive about it on all fronts than to sit around and gripe! The difference being that not having BC does not prevent one from being able to have sex in the same way as not being able to have an erection. I'm not saying I disagree with the idea of having BC having a co-pay, but to argue that it is sexist doesn't hold water.
