Mother in law gone wild or just too honest?

Mothers and son's GF/fiancee/wife are NOT MEANT to get along. Its an abnormal freak when they do. Mom is mad that she is losing her baby. Wife is mad that Mom won't "cut the umbilical cord". Its the natural order of things.

What I take from this story is just further proof that there is no privacy, and a further expectation that people will continue to be as evasive as possible in order to avoid stuff like this from happening. Nobody wants to commit to anything or put their name to anything unless they themselves can get leverage in return because of something exactly like this happening.

I think we are just picking up on certain parts of the email that would point to that:


"No one gets married in a castle unless they own it."

I am thinking their DIL wanted to have her wedding in a castle and wanted them to pay for it

"I understand your parents are unable to contribute very much towards the cost of your wedding. (There is nothing wrong with that except that convention is such that one might presume they would have saved over the years for their daughters' marriages.) "

So her parents are not contributing enough to cover the wedding, also they mentioned on other stories that the girls parents are unemployed.

BUT the kicker

"If this is the case, it would be most ladylike and gracious to lower your sights and have a modest wedding as befits both your incomes. "

"Befits both incomes" So meaning even if the parents are not paying, the girls wants a wedding that her fiancee and her cannot afford it.

I believe it is the MIL way of saying
- Your parents cannot pay for it
- Your fiancee and you cannot pay for it
- and we will be damn if you think we will be paying for it.

and the last part:

"One could be accused of thinking that Heidi Withers must be patting herself on the back for having caught a most eligible young man. I pity Freddie."

It did to me as well. I also don't believe for a minute that DIL didn't spread that letter herself in hopes of causing further trouble. I hope the boy/man breaks up with her as she has shown her true colors already.
