He is regarded as an expert on the formation of democracies in evolving nations.
He doesn't believe Jesus is the son of God, nor the immaculate conception, nor the resurrection.
He believes religion has no place in the public realm.
He has a child with the teenage daughter of his employee.
He has a Quran in his home library as well as a Bible.

Doesn't really matter here, we have formed our Representative Republic, it has worked, no sense in changing the formula now. 2. Irrelevant, whether someone believes in God, Buddha, or Vishnu is irrelevant to whether they can lead or not. 3. I agree, stop all this carp whether it's crosses on the side of the highway or Muslim Women wanting to wear full body covering while weight lifting, none of this has to do with government. 4. Banging the babysitter? How old is the daughter, how old was she when the sexual relationship started? If what he has done is lawful, then it's okay, if laws were broken (statutory rape) charges should be filed. 5. What he chooses to read is in noway indicative of this person. Now, what is his stand on policy, foreign relations, border enforcement, controlling debt, ensuring life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, what/where is he willing to get tough to move us into a direction that is going to really deal with the outstanding public debt that we as a country have racked up? These are issue worth talking about, what he does in his private life (as long as he has not violated the law) doesn't mean 2 sh**s to me personally.

Jefferson wasn't a jihadist, he was a visionary smart enough to learn about his enemy, the muslim pirates / slave traders of the Barbary Coast, from their own book before waging war on them.

What does Obama's fundraising have to do with whether Thomas Jefferson could be elected president today?

You really didn't get the point? Thomas Jefferson is highly regarded and was integral in the formation of our country. He also had some messy personal issues and did not have conventional religious beliefs that would probably bar him from running for president today. Are we overlooking some good potential candidates because they aren't morally squeaky clean and aren't practicing Christians?

Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying. Ronald Reagan

I find this type of Hyperbole above you swamp. It may disqualify him in the minds of certain groups, but, not indicative of a majority of people. Again it would go back to what his stated policies are, it is really hard to try a compare an 18th century president with a 21st century president, one cannot understand the changes from there time to ours. When people choose to look at substance over fluff, we can overlook small imperfections (ideas one might hold that are different from our own) if what is offered is actually for the betterment of the country, not just the betterment of political image.

I don't think it's hyperbole. I'm very disturbed about the level of importance given to a candidates religious beliefs or nonbeliefs. I don't think it matters, but obviously it does to many people, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue.

You are comfortable voting someone who knocked up his employee's teen daughter into a position of leadership, then that is your right. I'd also take issue of voting for someone for president who's owned slaves.

But I still recognize and appreciate his efforts in the formation in our country.

Translation: must ... turn ... every ... thread ... into ... an ... Obama ... Bash ... must ... feed ... obsession ... And technically, he wasn't born in the United States! But more importantly: Jefferson was a polymath who spoke five languages and could read two others. He was a major book collector with an enormous library, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_JeffersonHow dare an egg-headed intellectual be president!!!!!1! They should have had Eustace Jones the farmer be president!

How dare an egg-headed intellectual be president!!!!!1! They should have had Eustace Jones the farmer be president! We had a Peanut Farmer from Georgia from 1977 to 1981..and a governor from Arkansas who liked to compare himself to Thomas Jefferson because his name was William Jefferson Clinton but as you recall Ronald Reagan knew Thomas Jefferson and told Clinton he was NO Thomas Jefferson..

The problem with our current "requirements" for president is that this person, who was instrumental in the formation of our nation and did serve well as our president, would be disqualified automatically............ Who's requirements? The requirement of a biased media perhaps, but not mine. Politics these days is all about digging up dirt on your opponent and sensationalizing even trivial shit in the media. For once, I'd really like to see an campaign in which the candidates talk about their own achievements much more than their opponents failures. I know I'll never see it though. The whole political campaign is useless tit for tat....like the 3rd grade mentality like "well you're ugly" in response to a comment.
