No Spend November! Our "guidelines" for the month are: Christmas purchases are allowed (inevitable, and mostly budgeted). Obviously grocery/household items are also allowed. And our weekly dinner date with friends ($1 Tacos on Taco Tuesday at our local Mexican restaurant- very cheap and so fun!) Everything else will be categorized as No Spend.
Goals for 11/10-11/16 11/10- Annual Christmas bazaar that DS1 and I always go to together. Will probably spend something. -- Bought a few items for myself today, but used my birthday money. We did pick up lunch for the 4 of us on the way home- $16.00. 11/11- No Spend. -- Accomplished. 11/12- No Spend, minus our weekly Taco Tuesday Friend Dinner Date. -- Since it decided to snowpacolypse in Indiana yesterday, we stayed in and ate leftover chili. No spend! 11/13- No Spend. --H went out to pick up my RX and brought back ice cream for everyone (I had a rough day, he did it to be sweet). $8.46 on ice cream for 4. 11/14- No Spend. -- Accomplished! 11/15- No Spend. -- Ended up taking DS2 to McD for a quick lunch. $6.80. We had planned to order pizza for dinner tonight because we had $10 in pizza rewards and a good coupon code. Cost out of pocket for 2 pizzas and cheesesticks $10.68. Total today: $17.48 11/16- No Spend. -- Laziness won after working on the house all day and we went thru a drive thru. $27.54 later....

I am also a 10+ WIRR (11 I believe). Just not on this name haha. I joined in 2008, but somewhere in the transition from MSN to ProBoards, I got confused/lost and had to make a new account (after I had already made a new account here). So, under this account I've been here since 2013. I am still salty that I lost my old content.

After the unexpected snow we received on Halloween, I spent yesterday cutting back my plants and putting things away for winter. My front landscape beds always look so naked after I do my fall pruning.
Today I did a deep clean of DS1's room, I pulled out a bunch of clothing/shoes he's outgrown. I can't really count them in my "purge" count for the year, as I save all of his items for DS2 to grow in to. I have totes downstairs labeled with what clothing sizes are inside, and I rotate them up as DS2 grows. I am SO glad we kept so much from DS1. It's saved us a lot of $$$.
I did toss 20 broken/junk items, so THOSE things can be counted! New count for the year: 1,114/2,019
The boys want their Christmas trees put up in their rooms, so we will do that tomorrow (on top of my weekly whole house cleaning day).

And our weekly dinner date with friends ($1 Tacos on Taco Tuesday at our local Mexican restaurant- very cheap and so fun!) Everything else will be categorized as No Spend.
Goals for 11/1-11/9 11/1- No Spend-- Accomplished! 11/2- No Spend-- We had some errands to run today. H had a $25 Olive Garden gc from his birthday, so we ordered two 1/2 gallons of soup and breadsticks to go. I had a 15% off online order coupon. Our total came to $31.46, so we had to pay $5.46 for dinner (and a few lunches of leftovers!). Not too bad IMO. We also spent $5.00 on drinks for 4 of us earlier in the day. 11/3- No Spend-- Accomplished! 11/4- No Spend -- Accomplished! 11/5- No Spend, except for our weekly Taco Tuesday Friend Dinner-- Accomplished! 11/6- No Spend-- Accomplished! 11/7- H has a conference in Indy for 3 days this week, I am surprising the kids today by taking them to stay at the hotel with their dad. We plan to stay at the hotel, swim and order a pizza while H attends his conference dinner. His employer paid for the hotel, so we will only have to pay to park. Spending will probably occur, but hopefully minimal. -- DS2 was super well behaved during my oil change today, so he got a Happy Meal for lunch. I grabbed a $1 sandwich and a $1 drink, so we spent $5.88 on lunch. We are at the hotel now, spent $29 having pizza, breadsticks, and drinks delivered. So 34.88 for the day. 11/8- Spending will probably occur while we are in Indy today (want to check out IKEA for the very first time). Hopefully minimal. -- Spent $55 at IKEA- $15 was picking up an item for a friend (she is paying me back). About $20 of it was Christmas gifts, so budgeted spending. $20 was random stuff, so it will count as a spend. We stopped on our way home and had lupper- spent $57 (which makes me wanna puke, we should've picked somewhere cheaper). Finally, we stopped at Target. I picked up a few Christmas items (budgeted). We also purchased 2 new (and much needed) bed pillows for $20. Total Spend for the day- $97. Yeesh. 11/9- No Spend. -- Accomplished.
Spending Tracker: 11/1 $0.00 11/2 $10.46 11/3 $0.00 11/4 $0.00 11/5 $0.00 11/6 $0.00 11/7 $34.88 11/8 $97.00 11/9 $0.00 11/10 11/11 11/12 11/13 11/14 11/15 11/16 11/17 11/18 11/19 11/20 11/21 11/22 11/23 11/24 11/25 11/26 11/27 11/28 11/29 11/30

We've reached the end of October, time to add up my non budgeted/non essential spending. 10/5: $6.41 10/6: $0 10/7: $4.52 10/8: $0 10/9 $7.69 10/10 $0 10/11 $28.63 10/12 $16.17 10/13 $61.00 10/14 $0 10/15 $9.50 10/16 $28.29 10/17 $9.51 10/18 $30.00 10/19 $0 10/20 $6.50 10/21 $0.00 10/22 $10.68 10/23 $15.00 10/24 $4.27 10/25 $0.00 10/26 $0.00 10/27 $0.00 10/28 $0.00 10/29 $0.00 10/30 $0.00 10/31 $0.00
$238.17 was spent from 10/5-10/31. Not horrible, but that's definitely money we could have used in a better way. Looking ahead to November, we are going to try another No Spend November. I will lay out my goals in my November 1 post.

I finally sorted through and counted all of the items I pulled when I cleaned up DS2's room after his birthday party. 115 items are out the door, whether to be donated or listed to sell on FB (the clothing). That puts my count for the year at: 1,094/2,019!

Happy Friday, everyone! I bought 2 new articles of work clothing yesterday, and in exchange, plan on putting two unused items into the newly started donation box. Our party is tomorrow. All I have left to do is set up the camper bed for couple #2 staying the night, put the chili into the Crock Pot "cauldron" tomorrow, bake cornbread muffins (hm, I could probably do that tonight!), and make the popcorn snack mix. Here's the one I'm making this year: Peanut Butter Popcorn Party MixThis year I've made a point of making it easier on myself. DH will pick up deli sandwiches and croissants tomorrow instead of me buying meats, cheeses and rolls, 2 friends will make Jell-O shots, and a third friend offered to make breakfast Sunday morning for the slumber party crew. It's going to be a fantastic night. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Have a great party!!

And me again, last time. I told DD. She asked us to take him to the vet tomorrow if he's still unwell. We told her DH can do that. I'm glad I was honest with her. You made the right call.

Goal for 10/21-10/27
10/21- No spend. Accomplished! 10/22- My birthday! Also our weekly taco tuesday friend date- but I think we may switch to a different restaurant for the occasion. They told me to pick anywhere. No pressure. Dinner was budgeted, so not a "spend" there. We did stop at TJMaxx before dinner and I bought myself a new pair of sunglasses. $10.68 for my birthday gift to myself lol. 10/23- No Spend-- Accomplished! 10/24- No Spend. It will be my bi-weekly grocery/errand day, but this is all budgeted. Spent $15 to wash my nasty car before it gets too cold. 10/25- Family Fun Night at DS1's school. There is a fundraiser pizza dinner, which I budgeted for. Bought a frappe before sitting in the pick up line today for my son's school $4.27. Ended up only spending $12 on dinner, opted to just order pizza after the event because I had a good coupon code. (budgeted) 10/26- No Spend--Accomplished! 10/27-No Spend-- Saturday and Sunday we will be cutting into the roof of our house to start installing a dormer. I don't see any spending happening, since we will be stuck here. Hoping to stock up on snacks, easy grab items for the duration of the project to avoid drive thrus. -- Accomplished!
Looking ahead at the month: Irregular expenses: Family Fun Night at DS1's school (dinner tickets) PAID, basketball registration for DS1 PAID, Halloween, several birthdays LAST BIRTHDAY GIFT PURCHASED, classroom Halloween parties (hopefully enough parents donate to keep my out of pocket costs low). I ONLY HAD TO PURCHASE JUICE BOXES FOR THE 2 3RD GRADE CLASSES. CAUGHT A 40 PACK ON CLEARANCE FOR $7.98! Of course, Christmas is on the horizon as well.
Going to track every bit of extra spending here this month, starting on 10/5 since that was my original post for the month:
10/5: $6.41 10/6: $0 10/7: $4.52 10/8: $0 10/9 $7.69 10/10 $0 10/11 $28.63 10/12 $16.17 10/13 $61.00 10/14 $0 10/15 $9.50 10/16 $28.29 10/17 $9.51 10/18 $30.00 10/19 $0 10/20 $6.50 10/21 $0.00 10/22 $10.68 10/23 $15.00 10/24 $4.27 10/25 $0.00 10/26 $0.00 10/27 $0.00 10/28 $0.00 10/29 10/30 10/31

I made it back unscathed. There were some white knuckle moments on I76 while I was driving in a lane with no shoulder--the concrete berm was ON the line--and big rigs were passing me. Those 15 ft Uhauls are quite wide. But I made it to Indy on Thursday, unloaded on Friday, binge watched the Hallmark channel at the hotel on Saturday, and flew back to DE today. After so many hours of the Hallmark channel, I have a great set of unrealistic expectations for living in a small town. I know there will be a festival and everyone will be attractive. If there's any snow, it will fall very prettily and won't make the roads a mess. Oh, and there will be some handsome fella who owns a wine vineyard or a ranch whom I befriend and fight falling in love with. I saw it on TV. Totally real, right? Tomorrow will have a to-do of just getting everything together in order to pack it into the car and taking care of change of address and anything else that needs to be done in town. That’s totally how it is here in Indiana! 😂

Goal for 10/13-10/2010/13: Friends invited us to a fall festival- for parking, lunch for 4, and one booth purchase we spent $61.00 10/14: No spend-- Accomplished 10/15: Weekly Taco Tuesday w/ Friends dinner (potentially not going). If so less than $30 for all of us. -- Our Mexican restaurant was packed, so we left and took the kids to McDonalds. Spent $14.96 for all 4 of us to eat- saved us approximately $10 this way! We did end up spending $9.50 at the ice cream truck this afternoon. It's the last day it will go around for the season and they had slashed a lot of prices- the kids are going to miss it (confession: I will too haha). 10/16: Taking the kids to Chuck E Cheese for their annual birthday trip, budgeted expense- printed some coupons from their website and saved some $$. We did take them to Target after, and I bought DS2 a set of sheets for his new big boy bed (as soon as I buy the twin mattress that is!) They were 10% off plus my 5% RedCard discount- $16.26. We also spent $12.03 on gas station snacks for the drive (90 mins). We should've packed stuff from the house. Hindsight. 10/17: No Spend- Friend and her son invited us to lunch playdate. Spent $9.51 for 3 of us to have lunch. 10/18: No Spend- Should've been a no spend, but we spent $30 on dinner in a drive thru. Ugh. My nephew is staying the night and he's a picky eater. I wish I had planned better for tonight. 10/19: No Spend- Accomplished! 10/20: No Spend- Spent $6.00 at the ice cream truck. They made one last trip through our town for the season, with super discounted items. $6.00 bought ice cream for 5 people. Should we spend it? No. Do my kids absolutely FREAK OUT when they hear the music coming? Yes. Totally worth it. Looking ahead at the month: Irregular expenses: Family Fun Night at DS1's school (dinner tickets), basketball registration for DS1, Halloween, several birthdays, classroom Halloween parties (hopefully enough parents donate to keep my out of pocket costs low). Of course, Christmas is on the horizon as well. Going to track every bit of extra spending here this month, starting on 10/5 since that was my original post for the month:

Oh debthaven, I am just picturing this whole situation play out in my head and I can't stop giggling. I think you did the right thing. It wouldn't serve anyone else being flushed into the abyss of the sewer! I can't wait to hear how DS2 responds to your story.

I hope just the right buyer comes along very soon for your house, startsmart . nikiz628 , have you looked at Benjamin Moore's stains and paints for decks? They're $$$pricey but I've found BM's products to be worth the money every time, in terms of ease of use and longevity. We have tried several different brands, but I don't think we have tried BM yet. Mostly because I am not sure who carries it around us haha. I will definitely look in to it!

I started tackling the "strip our deck" to do on my list yesterday. I ran out of wood stripper before I had covered the whole deck and the pressure washer only does so much without it. I hope to finish it up before next weekend. I am so annoyed that this is the eleventy millionth time we have had to redo our deck and its only 10 years old. I purchased and applied the product that's supposed to last 10 years (similar to Behr Deck Over, different brand). Well, it didn't even make it a year and a half and we could peel it off like paper. We've seriously stripped and restained this deck at least 5 times now because nothing seems to sink in to it and stay. It all ends up peeling off, even when we do every single prep and application step properly. I told H once I get this gunk off, it's going to sit all winter unfinished. We have about 6 boards that need replaced due to rot/damage. Once spring arrives, I am just going to paint the darn thing. It probably won't last either, I really wish we could afford the composite deck boards.

I also forgot about the unpaid 40 min round trip to pick up the materials, the unpaid 40 min round trip to drop them off, plus the 1 or 2 unpaid 40 min trips to drop off the marking sheets (depending on whether my colleague or I live closer to the testing center. We always work in pairs). I think I'm going to send that email right now!!!
DONE!!! I SENT IT!!! DONE WITH JOB 3!!! I HATE working Saturdays. If I'm going to work on Saturdays, it should be for something that actually matters to me, ie my 2 teaching jobs. It will be SUCH a huge relief to have one less thing to juggle come spring! Way to go!!!
