Your loyal code monkey has added Lean n' Mean mode to NMSNM. Simply click on "Lean n' Mean" (new command visible on the masthead) to enter lean n' mean mode. In this mode, the space taken up by each reply is significantly reduced, giving the threads a tighter and more compact layout. It should help reduce scrolling for viewers/posters with limited screen space. Some information is not visible in lean n' mean mode. You can switch back to classical mode at any time by clicking on "Classical" (which replaces "Lean n' Mean" on the masthead). Note that I will be adding the PM, e-mail, and (a smaller version of) the ignore buttons to the lean n' mean layout shortly. For now, let me know what you think (e.g. problems, suggestions), and/or whether you experience any errors or bugs. This message will remain an announcement for 24 hours. Regards, Virgil the Code Monkey

did something happen to the rest of the code in the process of adding this tweak? I just sorted by new topics, and got results all over the map. some stuff from today, some threads that hadn't been updated since last night, etc.
weird...

I'm getting that too, chiver, but it's completely on ProBoards' end of things. It has nothing to do with lean n' mean or any other modification.
Odd thread ordering occasionally happens when posts are moved from one thread to another.

I plead "Not Guilty". The script only came online at 2:00 AM this morning. And even then it shouldn't have affected the layout unless you explicitly turned it on. More than likely it was rovo. The poor fellow is determined to put out "Ripped n' Rovo'd" mode where the avatars dance and keywords are replaced by links to threads in Start Investing.

Is there a way to only show the threads/ topics you watch the most?

Virgil it seems "Lean and Mean" overrides the Ignore button.

Is there a way to only show the threads/ topics you watch the most? You can bookmark a thread (there's a button at the bottom left of the thread), then access your bookmarks from your profile, mizbear.

Bear with me over the next 20 minutes as I attempt to make the various hacks play nice. ETA: OK. It would appear that everything is now working together as it should.

And the options to PM, e-mail, and/or ignore have now been added to LnM mode. If anyone can find a better 15x15 icon (or smaller) for the 'ignore', I'd welcome it.

Virgil, does Lean N Mean keep your screen from resizing when people post large pics or text that scrolls horizontally more than a screen width? Is it any less piggy on resources? Thanks Virgil code monkey.

*lol* Actually Marsha, my problem with the original smiley is that it has too much red in it. Red means "trouble"--it's very eye catching. A red 'x' doesn't remedy that problem. I'll bite the bullet and colorize the little guy yellow. Optimist: There are currently two mechanisms for limiting image size. Some time back, moonbeam added a "limit image size" hack that resizes images bigger than 700x1000 pixels (and adds a 'View Full Size Image' link). The trouble with this hack is that it doesn't run until the page is fully loaded, and hence the images can stay giant for a while. Yesterday I added a clause to the global CSS that limits image size to 700x1000. This is a bit more elegant because there's no delay and it doesn't require a script, but the limiter may not be honoured by non-CSS-2.0-compliant browsers such as (you guessed it) Internet Explorer. Between the two techniques, images are always limited to 700x1000 in dimension. These limits were chosen somewhat arbitrarily. Typically a desktop should have 1024x768 pixels to devote to a browser window. If people here are finding that a 700 px. max is still too big (I don't know if you don't tell me), reducing it to 600 px or 500 px is certainly doable. My goal is to make it as large as possible while limiting the size so that most viewers of the site don't run into "overfull table" issues that mangle the layout. As for being resource-intensive, lean n' mean is efficient, but it doesn't have a zero footprint if you run it--no code does. I honestly don't think you could notice any difference in the site performance.
