If this thread gets moved, I will understand. I wanted to share that my 18 year old son will graduate from high school this Monday June 6th. He is student body president of his high school, he is graduating in the top 12 of his class. He has a 3.9 grade point average, he will be attending Northern Arizona University and he will major in Political science. He plans to join the Air Force as an officer after he gets his degree and he hopes to become the Mayor of Phoenix by the time he is 28. My son adores our country and he is passionate about making our country better. I have to say that when it comes to ideology, my son and I do not always see eye to eye. He refers to himself as a "progressive libertarian" I did not always think so, but I am now beginning to believe that one day, my son might be in the lime light as an up and coming future politician. If that day comes, I will let all of you know that I am his mom. Anyway, I am so happy and I feel so proud. Just wanted to share.

That's great news! I joined the military after college as well. It's nice to go in as an officer and skip the grunt life. As crappy as the prospects are for college grads right now anyway, he's making a good plan to go military after school. Best of luck to him and you...

Congrats, Sweet, on a job well done. I'm just glad your family is getting closer and closer to a permanent move to AZ. Maybe he will end up at DMAFB here in Tucson. NAU is a good school, too. Phoenix sux, though.. maybe push him more toward Tucson, a much smaller city, AND an AF city (although our liberals sure hate those planes!! LOL!!)

I know you're very proud of (and for) your son, vrginia. Good for him! I hope he realizes all his dreams and is able to have a hand in improving life for everyone, which sounds like it's his desire. You've raised a good man and a wonderful addition to this country.

Tyler loves Arizona and he cant wait to be a full fledged AZ resident. I will be joining him asap! He is not crazy about Phoenix but he figures he has to go big if he will eventually end up as a gov. or in congress. I am not thrilled on his career aspirations, as I am pretty cynical when it comes to politicians. But I can only hope that he will be one of the good ones and that he will make a positive contribution to our country, if his dreams are realized.

But, sweet, your son has the right roots to be a good politician, with immigrant grandparents, first generation military parents, and growing up in the mess that is CA has hopefully given him a good start on knowing where this country does not WANT to go. Sometimes just knowing what you don't want to be, or how you don't want to live, can point you in the right direction. As for politicians, I look more and more at solid (anti-elite) backgrounds, and even if I didn't know you, I would like your son's background. I'm sick to death of this country's politics, and want different types of people in power.

I know he didn't achieve all of this by himself, it would be almost impossible so congrats to him , wish him the best from us here, { You do know if you let him know that you gushed and blabbed as you did here , his reaction will be, MOM you didn't ? How could you , good lordy..so embarressing..yadda, yadda." tough kid , is my answer, it's my time to crow should be the answer, you did GOOD Mom, feel proud.

Aww, you're welcome, Vrginia. I've raised a couple of kids myself, and I'm very familiar with that special feeling that comes from seeing them succeed and go on to live productive, happy lives with loving families.

I hope his background guides him to the right thing. Only time will tell.

Sweet, while I do hate Phoenix, I will admit that Tucson politics is ridiculous, totally dominated by extreme liberals that do bizarre things with the little money we have. It's kind of a joke and kind of a shameful thing that Phoenix has to chime in at times on our ridiculous politics. There are actually people here that HATE the AF base, and it is right up there with the U of A as being the largest employer in town, and a HUGE part of our local economy. So, yeah, for AZ politics he is better off advancing out of Phoenix than Tucson. I hope he is tough on illegal immigration like you and your parents. It will probably still be an issue when he is ready to run, unless, of course, we are border free by then..God forbid..

what is a progressive libertarian? The Progressive Libertarian The political philosophy built on three simple tenets: 1) The power of the free markets to most efficiently distribute in a resource-constrained world. 2) The power of individual choice in making the best decisions collectively for society. 3) The need for govenment in insuring the success of the first two points. These three simple tenets are the basis for our view on every important issue that affects America today. www.progressivelibertarian.com/
