The dollar is still too strong. You sound like you work for the FED, you assume that there are no other ways to shift the balance of trade than by debasing our currency, if we eliminated taxes and regulations the cost of production would drop significantly, maybe as much as 50%

The dollar is still too strong. That's funny right thar! ETA: From an AP Article The two companies loosened their longtime auto alliance last year when Ford cuts its stake in Mazda from 11 percent to 3.5 percent. At the time, Mazda President Takashi Yamanouchi insisted that the two companies would continue to cooperate through joint ventures and technology exchanges.
Mazda's latest financial results revealed tough times for the Hiroshima-based company.
Its net losses swelled to 60 billion yen ($742 million) in the fiscal year ended March 31, from 6.5 billion yen the previous year. The company blamed a persistently strong yen and lackluster sales in Japan, as well as the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that disrupted auto production. stocks.usatoday.com/custom/usatoday-com/html-story.asp?guid={4ca3f4df-8e62-465f-81e0-170b2f8da699}ETA Again: The Flat Rock plant currently builds the Mazda6 and Ford Mustang on a single shift. The plant needs to operate at about 70 percent capacity, or 240,000 units per year, to turn a profit, but is falling well short of those targets. Last year the plant produced about 45,000 Mazda6s and 77,586 Mustangs.

This is excellent news. Now idiot Americans who used to defend buying their POS tin can Mazda by saying "well they're built here in America employing Americans" will now have no excuse and have to buy an American car made in America. You know, kind of like the Japanese do, the ones who benefit from a +80b trade surplus with America...?

I proudly drive a Honda (made in Canada). I want the best car I can afford- and so far America has failed to produce even a top 5, let alone top quality car.

Thats what they all say. So keep buying your Asian POS tin cans and let the overall Asian trade imbalance remain at half a trillion or whatever it is and watch the US implode from the front seat of your POS Asian tin can.

I just bought my wife a new Chevy Cruze and so far so good. I even drove it a couple of times. The electric steering is very precise. ( Although that judgment comes from some one who's been driving P/U trucks since 1979.) She has trouble driving anything bigger than a S-10 P/U because she is blind in one eye and has no depth perception.

But we wanted a mediocre car for basic transport ! We were one inch away from buying a Corolla, but the nearest dealer was 60 miles away. That was the deciding factor.
